A Study On Leadership and Management Effectiveness Based on a Multi-Frame Model : A Case Study for Railway Public Enterprises

  • The main purpose of this study is to highlight the effects of the Bolman and Deal's multi-frame leadership on the several dependent variables such as job satisfaction, respect from subordinates, effective goal attainment, promotion speed, and recognition as more a leader than a manager. To attain this purpose, 488 questionnaires verified to be free from flaws were processed through SPSS 14 Windows. The major finding was that versatile and adroit use of multiple frames can contribute to the effectiveness and success of the leader. That is, the multi-frame leadership had strong relationships with dependent variables such as trust and respects from subordinates, effective attainment of unit's goal, job satisfaction, recognition as more a real leader than as a manager, and promotion speed of boss. When we consider the ever-increasing environmental complexity surrounding every organization and the growing levels of needs of employees, the use of multi-frame leadership is not an 'ought' but a 'must' for all the people who aspire to become effective and successful leaders.

Psychometric Analysis of a Persian Version of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer OG25 Quality of Life Questionnaire in Oesophagogastric Cancer Patients

  • Background: Health-related quality of life (HRQL) is a fundamental outcome in oncology patients and quality of life (QOL) assessment requires clinically relevant questionnaires. The purpose of this study was translation and definition of measurement properties and the clinical validity of Quality of Life Questionnaire (QLQ)-OG25 module in Persian patients with oesophagus, oesophagogastric junction (OGJ) or gastric cancers. Materials and Methods: The translation procedure followed European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) guidelines. Both EORTC QLQ-OG25 and a core questionnaire (EORTC QLQ-C30) were administered to patients with oesophagus (150), OG junction (93) and gastric (32) cancer undergoing multi-modal treatments. Convergent and discriminant validity, Cronbach's alpha coefficient and known-groups comparisons were used to examine reliability and validity. Results: In all, 275 patients (mean age 62 years) completed both questionnaires. Compliance rate was high and the questionnaire module was well accepted. We found good reliability for multi-item subscales of QLQ-OG25 (Cronbach's alpha coefficients 0.76-0.89). About 73% had TNM staging and scales distinguished between clinically distinct groups of patients. However, patients in palliative group experienced compromised functional status and worse treatment-associated symptoms than those in the potentially curative group. Test-retest scores were consistent. Multi-trait scaling analysis demonstrated good convergent and discriminant validity. Conclusions: Overall, the Persian version of QLQ-OG25 demonstrated psychometric and clinical validity that supports its application as a supplement to the original tool (EORTC QLQ-C30) when assessing HRQL in patients with upper-gastrointestinal (GI) cancer both in curative and palliative phases.

  • 현재 MPEG(Moving Picture Expert Group)은 1998년에 시작되어 멀티미디어 콘텐츠에 관한 압축 및 표현기술에 대한 표준규격을 제정하는 기구로, 그간 MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, MPEG-7 규격에 대한 표준 규격을 제정해 왔다. MPEG의 표준들 중에서 3차원 비디오와 관련된 규격으로는 1996년 MPEG-2 Video 표준에 포함된 Multi-View Profile을 들 수 있다. 하지만 MPEG-2 Multi-View Profile은 주 대상이 양안시점 영상에 대한 압축규격으로, 다시점 비디오 기술을 만족시키기에는 충분하지 않다. 그리고 MPEG-2는 시점 변경에 대한 기술이 없어 다시점 비디오를 이용한 시점전환(interactive)과 같은 서비스를 제공하지 못하는 한계를 지니고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 기존의 MPEG-4 시스템에 추가적으로 비디오 스위칭을 위해 특정시점을 기술할 수 있는 구조를 제안한다.

The Removal of Trembling Artifacts for FORMOSAT-2

  • Since the successful launch of FORMOSAT -2 satellite by National Space Organization of Taiwan in May 2004, the Remote Sensing Instrument (RSI) on- board the FORMOSAT -2 has continuously acquired images at one panchromatic and four multi-spectral bands (http://www.nspo.org.tw). In general, the RSI performs well and receives high quality images which proved to be very useful for various applications. However, some RSI panchromatic products exhibit obvious trembling artifact that must be removed. Preliminary study reveals that the trembling artifact is caused by the instability of the spacecraft attitude. Though the magnitude of this artifact is actually less than half of a pixel, it affects the applicability of panchromatic products. A procedure removing this artifact is therefore needed for providing image products of consistent quality. Due to the nature of trembling artifact, it is impossible to describe the trembling amount by employing an analytic model. Relied only on image itself, an algorithm determining trembling amount and removing accordingly the trembling artifact is proposed. The algorithm consists of 3 stages. First, a cross-correlation based scheme is used to measure the relative shift between adjacent scan lines. Follows, the trembling amount is estimated from the measured value. For this purpose, the Fourier transform is utilized to characterize random shifts in frequency domain. An adaptive estimation method is then applied to deduce the approximate trembling amount. In the subsequent stage, image re-sampling operation is applied to restore the trembling-free product. Experimental results show that by applying the proposed algorithm, the unpleasant trembling artifact is no longer evident.

  • 조직 내에서 구성원들이 직무수행과정을 통해서 경험하게 되는 공정 및 불공정의 느낌을 반영하는 고과공정성은 오늘날 구성원들의 행동, 의사결정의 방향, 행동수준을 결정하는 주요 요인으로 받아지고 있다. 그리고 직무수행과정 중에 맺게 되는 인간관계, 특히 상사-부하간의 교환관계는 직무와 함께 구성원들의 태도 및 행동 형성에 매우 중요한 요소로 부각되어 지고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 연구의 실질적 가치와 기업의 실무적 가치를 높이기 위해 고과공정성과 조직몰입에 대한 관계와 그 관계에서의 상사-부하간의 교환관계의 조절효과를 분석 규명하고자 하는데 그 목적이 있다. 분석결과, 고과공정성은 조직몰입에 긍정적인 영향을 미치며, 고과공정성의 하위 변수 중 상호작용공정성과 조직몰입사이에서 LMX의 조절효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 학술적 실무적으로 시사하는 바가 클 것으로 사료된다.

사회복지조직의 직원 채용과정에 대한 질적 사례연구 (A Qualitative Case Study on Staff Recruitment Process of Social Welfare Organization)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 사회복지조직의 직원 채용과정을 심층적으로 이해하고자 하는 것이다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위해 공개모집과 다차원적인 선발방법을 통해 직원을 채용하기로 한 사회복지관과 접촉하여 심층면접과 관찰, 기록물 등을 통해 다양한 자료를 수집하고 사례연구 접근으로 분석하였다. 채용과정 분석결과는 결원에서 채용 공고까지, 서류심사, 면접심사, 최종 선발과 발표, 임명의 5단계로 구분하여 각 단계에서 나타난 특성들을 제시하고 기관과 면접관, 지원자들의 관점을 반영하여 해석하였다. 또한 주제 분석을 통해 '역지사지', '경험을 통해 성장하기', '동상이몽', '사회복지에 특화된 채용방법의 부재'라는 주제들이 도출되었고, 이에 대해 논의하였다. 결론에서는 직원 채용과정에서 사회복지조직들이 고려해야 할 실천적 지침들을 제시하였으며, 이 연구의 결과를 더욱 발전시킬 수 있는 후속연구에 대해서도 제안하였다.

Space Organization for Unit Plans in Malaysia - Focus on Landed Properties in Ara Damansara-

  • Malaysian modern housing typologies (such as bungalows, semi-detached houses and terrace houses) are influenced by international style and constitute unique regional characteristics because they are modified in accordance with climatic conditions and unique social, ethnic housing cultures. This research identified unique characteristics and planning principles of how rooms and spaces of a house are related and organized into coherent patterns of form and space. For the analysis, we surveyed twenty-two residential precincts that identified twenty-five unit plan types for landed properties built in Ara Damansara, Malaysia. The methodology adopted in this study consisted of a document review and field surveys. It is difficult to find unique characteristics of space organization (except for the location of bathrooms) because the form of terrace houses is standardized and limited in design from the aspect of space organization. However, the organization of bedroom space and kitchen space has strong regional characteristics that have become stereotyped for semi-Ds and bungalows. General guideline for areas of unit plans are proposed based on the results of area analysis. We also found that the areas of L + D and MB increase as the total area of the house increases; however, the remaining rooms do not increase in area as long as they satisfy appropriate standards due to the addition of multi-purpose extra rooms. This study only examined limited cases in Ara Damansara and it is difficult to generalize the findings of other new towns in Malaysia. Nevertheless, it is worthwhile to collect and systematically organize data according to typologies. Finally, the authors were able to understand the unique regional design factors to be considered for landed property housing planning in Malaysia.

처벌과 윤리교육이 정보보안준수에 미치는 영향: 조직유형의 조절효과를 중심으로 (Impacts of Punishment and Ethics Training on Information Security Compliance: Focus on the Moderating Role of Organizational Type)

  • 정보기술이 조직에게 다양한 혜택을 제공하고 있지만, 컴퓨터 바이러스, 해킹, 무단복제, 도용 등 정보보안 사고로 인해 조직에게 치명적인 피해를 주는 경우도 있다. 정보보안 사고의 원인은 정보보안 통제를 지키지 않고 이를 위반하는 개인의 행위와 밀접하게 관련되어 있다. 따라서 개인의 행위에 대한 자발적 통제를 이끌어내고 이를 감독하는 것이 정보보안을 유지하는데 있어서 근본적이고 핵심적인 해결책이 될 수 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 처벌과 윤리교육이 각 조직 구성원들이 정보보안정책을 준수하는데 있어서 어느 정도 효과가 있는지를 분석하고, 조직 구성원들이 조직유형에 따라 성향의 차이가 있는지를 파악하여, 조직 구성원의 행위 변화와 자기통제를 이끌어내는 방법을 찾고자 하는 것이다. 연구결과 조직유형에 관계없이 처벌과 윤리교육이 정보보안준수에 긍정적 영향을 주는 핵심요인임을 확인하였다. 또 단일형태 조직 구성원에 비해 다분할 형태 조직 구성원이 처벌에 대한 인식이 높은 반면 윤리교육에 대한 인식은 상대적으로 낮고, 공공조직 구성원이 민간조직 구성원보다 처벌에 대한 인식이 높은 반면 윤리교육에 대한 인식은 낮은 것으로 파악되었다. 결론적으로, 처벌과 윤리교육이 조직의 정보보안준수에 영향을 주는 주요요인이며, 정보보안정책의 수립과 시행은 조직형태 및 특성을 이해하고 추진해야 함을 암시하고 있다. 따라서 조직은 정보보안정책의 수립 시 조직형태 및 특성에 따른 구성원의 성향을 먼저 인식하고, 구성원의 성향 차이를 정보보안정책에 반영한다면 정보보안정책을 수립하는데 있어서 더 큰 효과를 거둘 수 있을 것이다.

  • We have analysed the use and organization of space in the Centres des Documentations et de Informations(CDI) in lycees in France with the equivalent information centres. The majority of CDI are located in close proximity to the Academic staff and provide easy student access. The CDI provide not only books but also reviews, magazines and CD-Rom. This information is very important to pupils both in the pursuit of their higher studies and also with their future professional life as there is also careers information available to be discussed regularly with the careers advisor. The function of the CDI is not only to provide information. As part of the curriculum there are classes on how to access the information available in the CDI as well as Seminars and Audio-Visual courses. This management makes it possible for the CDI to operate, not only as a school library but also as a multi-function centre of documentation and information; a variety of spaces are also available: a room for private/small group study. A computer room (as well as a research corner), a reading room, monthly review room, photocopy room, rest room, exhibition room, careers information room, audio visual room etc. The results of this study can be used as essential information during the space planning of Korean school libraries in the future.

Applying Theory Informed Global Trends in a Collaborative Model for Organizational Evidence-based Healthcare

  • Getting evidence in to practice tends to focus on strategies, theories and studies that aim to close the gap between research knowledge and clinical practice. The evidence to practice gap is more about systems than individual clinician decision making. The absence of evidence for administration and management in the organization of healthcare is persistent. Teaching nurses and providing evidence as the solution to evidence-based healthcare is no longer axiomatic. Previous studies have concluded that unit level strategies integrate multi-professional teams with organizational needs and priorities. This 'best fit' approach that characterizes how healthcare is structured and delivered. The published literature shows that increased readiness for change is aligned with integrated approaches informed by conceptual models. The Joanna Briggs Collaboration is the largest global collaboration to integrate evidence within a theory informed model that brings together academic centres, hospitals and health systems for evidence synthesis, transfer and implementation. The best approaches to implementation are tailored to local culture and context, benchmark against international evidence, combine a theory informed model and stakeholder perspectives to improve the structure and processes of health care policy and practice.
