A perforated shear connector group is commonly used to transfer shear in steel-concrete composite structures when the traditional shear stud connection is not strong enough. The multi-hole perforated shear connector demonstrates a more complicated behavior than the single connector. The internal force distribution in a specific multi-hole perforated shear connector group has not been thoroughly studied. This study focuses on the load-carrying capacity and shear force distribution of multi-hole perforated shear connectors in steel-concrete composite structures. ANSYS is used to develop a three-dimensional finite element model to simulate the behavior of multi-hole perforated connectors. Material and geometric nonlinearities are considered in the model to identify the failure modes, ultimate strength, and load-slip behavior of the connection. A three-layer model is introduced and a closed-form solution for the shear force distribution is developed to facilitate design calculations. The shear force distribution curve of the multi-hole shear connector is catenary, and the efficiency coefficient must be considered in different limit states.
The interest of this article lies in the proposition of using bionic method to develop a new sound absorber and analyze the efficient of this absorber in a ski cabin. Inspired by the coupling absorption structure of the skin and feather of a typical silent flying bird - owl, a bionic coupling multi-layer structure model is developed, which is composed of a micro-silt plate, porous fibrous material and a flexible micro-perforated membrane backed with airspace. The finite element simulation method with ACTRAN is applied to calculate the acoustic performance of the multi-layer absorber, the vibration modal of the ski cabin and the sound pressure level (SPL) near the skier's ears before and after pasting the absorber at the flour carpet and seats in the cabin. As expected, the SPL near the ears was significantly reduced after adding sound-absorbing material. Among them, the model 2 and model 5 showed the best sound absorption efficiency and the SPL almost reduced 5 dB. Moreover, it was most effctive for the SPL reduction with full admittance configuration at both the carpet and the seats, and the carpet contribution seems to be predominant.
This paper investigates the buckling behavior of carbon nanotube-reinforced composite plates supported by Kerr foundation model. In this foundation elastic of Kerr consisting of two spring layers interconnected by a shearing layer. The plates are reinforced by single-walled carbon nanotubes with four types of distributions of uniaxially aligned reinforcement material. The analytical equations are derived and the exact solutions for buckling analyses of such type's plates are obtained. The mathematical models provided, and the present solutions are numerically validated by comparison with some available results in the literature. Effect of various reinforced plates parameters such as aspect ratios, volume fraction, types of reinforcement, parameters constant factors of Kerr foundation and plate thickness on the buckling analyses of carbon nanotube-reinforced composite plates are studied and discussed.
One of the most feasible solution for reducing the excessive energy consumption and carbon dioxide emission is usage of more efficient fuel such as hydrogen. As is well known, there are three viable technologies for storing hydrogen fuel: compressed gas, metal hydride absorption, and cryogenic liquid. In these technologies, the storage for liquid hydrogen has better energy density by weight than other storage methods. However, the cryogenic liquid storage has a significant disadvantage of boiling losses. That is, high performance of thermal insulation systems must be studied for reducing the boiling losses. This paper presents an experimental study on the effective thermal conductivities of the composite layered insulation with aerogel blankets($Cryogel^{(R)}$ Z and $Pyrogel^{(R)}$ XT-E) and Multi-layer insulation(MLI). The aerogel blankets are known as high porous materials and the good insulators within a soft vacuum range($10^{-3}{\sim}1$ Torr). Also, MLI is known as the best insulator within a high vacuum range(<$10^{-6}{\sim}10^{-3}$ Torr). A vertical axial cryogenic experimental apparatus was designed to investigate the thermal performance of the composite layered insulators under cryogenic conditions as well as consist of a cold mass tank, a heat absorber, annular vacuum space, and an insulators space. The composite insulators were laminated in the insulator space that height was 50 mm. In this study, the effective thermal conductivities of the materials were evaluated by measuring boil-off rate of liquid nitrogen and liquid argon in the cold mass tank.
The ceramic composite membrane was synthesized by thermal oxidation after evaporation of Al on the support prepared by slip casting process. Oxidation was performed at $700^{\circ}C$ and 80$0^{\circ}C$ under dry oxygen atmosphere. It was considered as optimum oxidation condition that the membrane showed a knudsen behaviro. A further oxidation resulted in an increase of gas permeability because top layer became densified. Then, a multi-layered composite membrane was synthesized through a sol-gel method, evaporation and thermal oxidation of Al coating processes. While the membrane was thermally stable up to 80$0^{\circ}C$, gas permeability was rapidly decreased even at a slight amount of deposition of Al.
Pleasantness or quietness becomes one of the most important factors for residential and office building designs recently. Especially for apartments, the noise generated by falling objects becomes a sensitive issue these days. To overcome the problem of the impact noise in apartments, the floor design has been changed. To reduce the transmissibility of the noise. composite floor structures ate devised and implemented for the construction of apartments. In this paper. the noise reduction) performance of a composite floor plate with holes is analyzed. Computational models for the structures are developed and its Performance is evaluated by using the finite element method. The results show that the noise can be significantly reduced with the multi-layer composite floor plates with holes.
Multi-layered laminate made of ceramic/composite have been developed to prevent penetration by high velocity impact. In this study, three-layered plates consisted of 1) cover layer (glass fiber reinforced polymer), 2) $Al_{2}O_{3}$, ceramic plate, and 3) backing plate (glass fiber reinforced polymer) were fabricated with various conditions and tested for their ballistic protection characteristic. The ceramic composite laminates, with thin backing plate, were completely penetrated by armor piercing projectile. The plate with inserted rubber between ceramic and backing plate showed excellent ballistic protection, though completely penetrated by the second shoot.
Wheat gluten-chitosan composite film (WGCCF) can prevent moisture migration and enhance the antimicrobial properties of gluten in intermediate-moisture foods like sandwiches. To mimic the structure of actual sandwich-type products we developed multi-layer food models, where moisture content and water activity differ. Water activity gradients direct moisture migration and therefore determine product characteristics and product stability. A 10% wheat gluten film-forming solution was mixed with chitosan film-forming solution (0-3%, w/w) and evaporated to generate WGCCF. Addition of 3% chitosan enhanced the mechanical properties of the film composite, lowered its water vapor permeability, and improved its ability to protect against both, Streptococcus faecalis and Escherichia coli, in a 24 hr sandwich test (reduction of 1.3 and 2.7 log cycles, respectively, compared to controls). Best barrier and antimicrobial performance was found for 3% chitosan WGCCF at pH 5.1. Film of this type may find application as barrier film for intermediate-moisture foods.
According to the increasing power demand for the future construction of many underground cables will be required. However, construction of new ducts for power cables will be more difficult. Therefore, research work for realizing the high temperature superconducting(HTS) cable has advanced, where the development of electrical insulating system at cryogenic temperature is one of the major researches. For an electrical insulation design of HTS cable, it is important to understand not only breakdown but also partial discharge and dielectric loss($tan{\delta}$) in liquid nitrogen/paper composite insulation system. In this paper, we investigated breakdown characteristics in liquid nitrogen/paper composite insulation system for the application to HTS cable. And, we studied the breakdown characteristics of the multi-layer and butt gap of the insulation papers in liquid nitrogen. Also, we measured dielectric loss($tan{\delta}$) of the mini-model Cable made of TERLAM IPP.
In this study, we compared two methods(an acid treatment in strong acid reflux and a heat treatment in air atmosphere) for hydrophilic surface treatment of multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWNT) to enhance the capcity of $RuO_2$/MWNT composite electrode materials for ultracapacitor. Both treatments generated a number of defects on the surface of MWNT by the breakage of $\pi$ bond in graphene layer at which carboxyl groups were introduced. However, the degree of hydrophilicity generated by strong acid treatment was higher than that by heat treatment in air, which was revealed by the quantitative measurement of surface carboxyl groups by using Boehm titration. The increased hydrophilicity save rise to an improved dispersity of $RuO_2$ nanoparticles on MWNT. Finally, the improved dispersity resulted in the capacity enhancement of composite electrode materials for ultracapacitor.
