  • In this paper, we proposed an optical security system based on a gray-image exclusive-OR encryption using multi-phase separation and phase-wrapping method. For encryption, a gray image is sliced into binary images, which have the same pixel value, and these images are encrypted by modified XOR rules with binary random images. The XORed images and the binary images respectively combined and converted into full phase images, called an encrypted image and a key image. For decryption, when the encrypted image and key image are used as inputs on optical elements, Practically due to limited controllability of phase range in optical elements, the original gray image cannot be efficiently reconstructed by these optical elements. Therefore, by decreasing the phase ranges of the encrypted image and key image using a phase-wrapping method and separating these images into low-level phase images using multi-phase separation, the gray image can be reconstructed by optical elements which have limited control range. The decrytion process is simply implemented by interfering a multiplication result of encrypted image and key image with reference light. The validity of proposed scheme is verified and the effects, which are caused by phase limitation in decryption process, is analyzed by using computer simulations.

  • In this paper, the embedded zero-tree wavelet image compression method using multi- threshold is proposed, which can reduce the scanning and symbol redundancy of the existing embedded zero-tree wavelet (EZW) method and enable more efficient coding. In the proposed scheme, a multi-threshold is constructed with the maximum absolute values from each subband decomposed by the wavelet transforms of the input image data. The multi-threshold values are compared with the threshold value T$_1$ in each pass in Successive Approximation Quantization (SAQ) to select the significant subbands, which are only used for the subsequent coding processes, therefore, can reduce the coding redundancy in the existing EZW. By the experimental results, it is verified that the proposed multi-threshold EZW method shows superior performances to the existing EZW method.

  • Unlike modern photography technology, in the early days, efforts to physically compose an image with a concept similar to the current photograph have not been popular or commercially successful. The limitation of the use of images as artistic media or recordings has reached the stage of introducing the technology of image analysis to automate the function that humans recognize and judge through vision. In addition, the accuracy of the image has exceeded the human visual ability, enabling the technology that enables the step of recognizing and informing the fact that the human is not aware of it. Based on such a base, the range that can be applied through the image data in the future era can be said to be unpredictable, and the technology that targets large scale image database instead of an image is also expanding the possibilities as a new application technology. In order to identify a particular image from a massive database, different methodologies have been introduced. In this paper, we discuss image identifier production methods based on multi-resolution pyramid.

  • This paper introduces the Optical Camera Communications (OCC) using image processing technique. The architecture and operation of OCC system are given. To enhance data rate which is limited by sampling operation of commercial 30fps camera, multi colors transmission technique is employed, leading to the importance of color image processing technique. Multi color encoding and image processing based decoding will be proposed in the paper.

  • The ability to efficiently and robustly recover accurate 3D terrain models from sets of stereoscopic images is important to many civilian and military applications. To develop an effective and practical terrain modeling system, we propose a new multi-image stereo method which detect unreliable elevations in DEM(Digital Elevation Map), and fuse several DEMs from multiple sources into an accurate and reliable results. This paper focuses on two key factors for generating robust 3D terrain models: the ability to detect unreliable elevation estimates and the ability to fuse the reliable elevations into a single optimal terrain model. We apply the self-consistency methodology to reconstruct accurate DEM from multi-image and show the method is more effective than the conventional stereo image 3D reconstruction method. Using photo-realistic simulator, four synthetic image are generated from ground truth DEM and orthoimage to evaluate the accuracy of the proposed method quantitatively.

  • The conventional intensity histogram does not indicate edge information, which is important in the perception of image contrast. In this paper, we propose a multi-cue histogram (MCH) to represent a collaborative distribution of both the intensity and the edges of an image. Based on the MCH, if the intensity values have high frequency and a large gradient magnitude, they are spread into a larger dynamic range. Otherwise, the intensity values are not strongly stretched. As a result, image details, such as edges and textures, can be enhanced while artifacts and noise can be prevented, as demonstrated in the experimental results.

  • In this paper, we propose and implement a multi-level convolutional neural network (CNN) algorithm to identify the sexually explicit and lewdness of various image files, and verify its effectiveness by using unauthorized image files generated in the actual military. The proposed algorithm increases the accuracy by applying the convolutional artificial neural network step by step to minimize classification error between similar categories. Experimental data have categorized 20,005 images in the real field into 6 authorization categories and 11 non-authorization categories. Experimental results show that the overall detection rate is 99.51% for the image files. In particular, the excellence of the proposed algorithm is verified through reducing the identification error rate between similar categories by 64.87% compared with the general CNN algorithm.

  • Multi-Spectral Camera(MSC) is a main payload on the KOMPSAT-2 satellite to perform the earth remote sensing. The MSC instrument has one(1) channel for panchromatic imaging and four(4) channel for multi-spectral imaging covering the spectral range from 450nm to 900nm using TDI CCD Focal Plane Array (FPA). The compression method on KOMPSAT-2 MSC was selected and used to match EOS input rate and PDTS output data rate on MSC image data chain. At once the MSC performance was carefully handled to minimize any degradation so that it was analyzed and restored in KGS(KOMPSAT Ground Station) during LEOP and Cal./Val.(Calibration and Validation) phase. In this paper, on-orbit image data chain in MSC and image data processing on KGS including general MSC description is briefly described. The influences on image performance between on-board compression algorithms and between performance restoration methods in ground station are analyzed and discussed.

  • In this paper, a server and client simulator for the web-based multi-view 3D image communication system is implemented by using the IEEE 1394 digital cameras, Intel Xeon server computer and Microsoft's DirectShow programming library. In the proposed system, two-view image is initially captured by using the IEEE 1394 stereo camera and then, this data is compressed through extraction of its disparity information in the Intel Xeon server computer and transmitted to the client system, in which multi-view images are generated through the intermediate views reconstruction method and finally display on the 3D display monitor. Through some experiments it is found that the proposed system can display 8-view image having a grey level of 8 bits with a frame rate of 15 fps.

  • Image-based 3D object detection is one of the important and difficult problems in autonomous driving and robotics, and aims to find and represent the location, dimension and orientation of the object of interest. It generates three dimensional (3D) bounding boxes with only 2D images obtained from cameras, so there is no need for devices that provide accurate depth information such as LiDAR or Radar. Image-based methods can be divided into three main categories: monocular, stereo, and multi-view 3D object detection. In this paper, we investigate the recent state-of-the-art models of the above three categories. In the multi-view 3D object detection, which appeared together with the release of the new benchmark datasets, NuScenes and Waymo, we discuss the differences from the existing monocular and stereo methods. Also, we analyze their performance and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of them. Finally, we conclude the remaining challenges and a future direction in this field.
