Based on damage accumulation of multi-grid composite walls, a method of dynamic reliability estimations is proposed. The multi-grid composite wall is composed of edge frame beam, edge frame columns, grid beams, grid columns and filling blocks. The equations including stiffness, shear forces at filling blocks cracking and multi-grid composite walls yielding, ultimate displacement, and damage index are obtained through tests of 13 multi-grid composite wall specimens. Employing these equations in reliability calculations, procedures of dynamic reliability estimations based on damage accumulation of multi-grid composite walls subjected to random earthquake excitations are proposed. Finally the proposed method is applied to the typical composite wall specimen subjected to random earthquake excitations which can be specified by a finite number of input random variables. The dynamic reliability estimates, when filling blocks crack under earthquakes corresponding to 63% exceedance in 50 years and when the composite wall reach limit state under earthquakes corresponding to 2-3% exceedance in 50 years, are obtained using the proposed method by taking damage indexes as thresholds. The results from the proposed method which show good agreement with those from Monte-Carlo simulations demonstrate the proposed method is effective.
In this paper. a new automatic multi=block grid generation technique for general 2D regions is introduced. According to this simple and robust method, the domain of interest is first triangulated by using Delaunay triangulation of boundary points, and then geometric information of those triangles is used to obtain block topology. Once block boundaries are obtained. structured grid for each block is generated such that grid lines have $C^0-continuity$ across inter-block boundaries. In the final step of the present method, an elliptic grid generation method is applied to smoothen grid distribution for each block and also to re-locale the inter-block boundaries, and eventually to achieve a globally smooth multi-block structured grid system with $C^1-continuity$.
In this article, combination of the FAS-FMG multi-grid method and the Krylov subspace method was presented in solving two dimensional driven-cavity flows. Three algorithms of the Krylov subspace method, CG, CGSTAB(Bi-CG Stabilized) and GMRES method were tested with MILU preconditioner. As a smoother of the pressure correction equation, the MILU-CG is recommended rather than MILU-GMRES(k) or MILU-CGSTAB, since the MILU-GMRES(k) preconditioner has too much computation on the coarse grid compared to the MILU-CG one. As for the momentum equation, relatively cheap smoother like SIP solver may be sufficient.
It takes a lot of time and effort to generate grids for numerical analysis of problems with ground effect because the relative attitude and height of airfoil should be maintained to the ground as well as the inflow. A low Mach number preconditioned turbulent flow solver using the overlap grid technique has been developed and applied to the ground effect simulation. It has been validated that the present method using the multi-block grid gives us highly accurate solutions comparing with the experimental data of the RAE 101 airfoil in an unbounded condition. Present numerical method has been extended to simulate ground effect problems by using the overlapped grid system to avoid tedious work in generating multi-block grid system. An extended method using the overlapped grid has been verified and validated by comparing with results of multi-block method and experimental data as well. Consequently, the overlapped grid method can provide not only sufficiently accurate solutions but also the efficiency to simulate ground effect problems. It is shown that the pressure and aerodynamic centers move backward by the ground effect as the airfoil approaches to the ground.
The ocean wave is hydrodynamically investigated to get more reliable solution. To improve the computational accuracy more fine grids are used with relatively less computer storage on the free surface. One element of the free surface is discretized into more fine grids because the free-surface waves are much affected by the grid size in the finite difference scheme. Here the multi-grid method is applied to confirm the efficiency for the S103 ship model by solving the Navier-Stokes equation for the turbulent flows. According to the computational result approximately 30% can be improved in the free surface generation, Finally the limiting streamlines show numerical result is similar to the experiment by twin tuft.

For fires in ship accommodation areas, if it is possible to predict the pattern in which fire will spread and suggest proper countermeasures according to a situation using a fire simulation tool, fire damage may be reduced. However, fire simulations have a practical limit: a significant amount of time is required to analyze the results due to the size of the computational domain and the number of grids. Therefore, in this study, applicable grid size for fire simulations to predict fire patterns in ship accommodation areas was analyzed, and a generation method was conducted to predict fire behavior in real time. As a result, a value within 0.25[m] was judged appropriate as an applicable grid size for ship accommodation areas. Also, in comparison with studies using a single mesh generation method, the visibility value was similar, within 4.3 %, as was the temperature value, within 8.3 %, when a multi mesh generation method was used, showing a decline of 80 % in analysis time. Therefore, it was confirmed that composing a grid using multi mesh was effective for reducing analysis time.
This paper is an inquiry into the human sensibility on view from high-rise housing in a viewpoint of architectural environment design that pay attention to multi-family high-rise housing which is becomes a trend in recent years. And this paper is the fundamental approach for applying this result to later architectural environmental plan of multi-family high-rise housing. In this paper, we used repertory grid method as a cognitive psychological way of analysis and eye mark recorder measurement experiments as a physiological way of examination. In the conclusions, examined human sensibilities on views-focused on the analysis result of eye mark recorder measurement experiments through repertory grid method that are carried on the main subject-and described problems after this and possibilities in the same time.
In this paper, we propose a new phantom protection method for multi-dimensional index structures that uses multi-level grid technique. The proposed mechanism is independent of the types of multi-dimensional index structures, i.e., it can be applied to all types of index structures such as tree-based, file-based and hash-based index structures. Also, it achieves low development cost and high concurrency with low lock overhead. It is shown through various experiments that the proposed method outperforms existing phantom protection methods for multi-dimensional index structures.
Computational grids used in the numerical simulation of multi staged turbomachinery flow fields are generated. A multiblock structure simplifies the creation of structured H-grids about complex turbomachinery geometries and facilitate the creation of a grid for multi-row topologies. The numerical algorithm adopts the combination of the algebraic and elliptic method to create the internal grids efficiently and quickly. The input module is made of the results of the preliminary design, i.e., flow-path, aerodynamic conditions along the spanwise direction, and the blade profile data. The final grids generated from each module of the system are used as the preprocessor for the performance prediction of the single row cascades and the flow simulation inside the multi staegd blade passage. Application to low pressure compressor of industrial gas turbine engines was demonstrated to be very reliable and practical in support of design activities.

A Multi-grid method is introduced to Finite Element Analysis of electromagnetic field problems in order to reduce the computational time. The puropse of this work is to study how to intermix discretization and solving process, thereby making the process more effective and to find the optimal factors of Multi-grid method. Several numerical experiments with linear models of uniform and nonuniform grids confirm that the proposed algorithm can reduce the computational time very effectively as compared with con ventional iterative methods. The best results are obtained with V cycle and S.O.R. with the acce leration factor of 1.3-1.4 for smoothing.
