  • Multi-wafer planetary type chemical vapor deposition reactors are widely used in thin film growth and suitable for large scale production because of the high degree of growth rate uniformity and process reproducibility. In this study, a two-dimensional model for estimating the effect of the gap between satellite and wafer on the wafer surface temperature distribution is developed and analyzed using computational fluid dynamics technique. The simulation results are compared with the results obtained from an analytical method. The simulation results show that a drop in the temperature is noticed in the center of the wafer, the temperature difference between the center and wafer edges is about $5{\sim}7^{\circ}C$ for all different ranges of the gap, and the temperature of the wafer surface decreases when the size of the gap increases. The simulation results show a good agreement with the analytical ones which is based on one-dimensional heat conduction model.

  • This paper considers the problem of estimation of the Hurst parameter H ${\in}$ (1/2, 1) from longitudinal data with the error term of a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter H that gives the amount of the long memory of its increment. We provide a new estimator of Hurst parameter H using a two scale sampling method based on $A{\ddot{i}}t$-Sahalia and Jacod (2009). Asymptotic behaviors (consistent and central limit theorem) of the proposed estimator will be investigated. For the proof of a central limit theorem, we use recent results on necessary and sufficient conditions for multi-dimensional vectors of multiple stochastic integrals to converges in distribution to multivariate normal distribution studied by Nourdin et al. (2010), Nualart and Ortiz-Latorre (2008), and Peccati and Tudor (2005).

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the main factors and attributes of psychological evaluation to noise. For this purpose, a psycho-acustic experiment was conducted by using the method of rating scale. 52 subjects were participated in the experiment, 20 stimuli were presented to subjects in random order with 23 adjectives. As a result of factor analysis, it was found that the primary factors for evaluating the quality of noise subjectively are four factors of unpleasantness, intensity, irregularity, and sharpness. And, as a result of MDPREF(multi-dimensional analysis of preference data), it was found that the noise sources including the factors of unpleasantness, intensity, and irregularity are related to the sounds of hammering in construction field, car horn, road traffic, idling of car, and printing by computer printer, and the factor of sharpness are the sounds of car siren, claps of thunder, car horn, and snowstorm etc.

  • The sintering mechanisms of nanoscale copper powders have been investigated. A molecular dynamics (MD) simulation with the embedded-atom method (EAM) was employed for these simulations. The dimensional changes for initial-stage sintering such as characteristic lengths, neck growth, and neck angle were calculated to understand the densification behavior of copper nano-powders. Factors affecting sintering such as the temperature, powder size, and crystalline misalignment between adjacent powders have also been studied. These results could provide information of setting the processing cycles and material designs applicable to nano-powders. In addition, it is expected that MD simulation will be a foundation for the multi-scale modeling in sintering process.

  • As an automobile tends to be high grade, the needs for more luxurious interior and comfortable HVAC system are emerged. The defrosting ability is another major factor of the performances of HVAC system. The present work is to simulate the flow and the temperature field of cabin interior during the defrost mode. The three-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and energy equation were solved on the multi blocked grid system by the iterative time marching method and AF scheme, respectively. The present computations were validated by the comparison of the temperature field of a driven cavity and velocity field of 1/5 model scale of an automobile. Generally good agreements were obtained. By the present computation, the complicated features of flow and temperature within the automotive cabin interior could be well understood.

  • This paper proposes a new approach to palmprint verification based on the gradient, in which a palm image is considered to be a three-dimensional terrain. Principal lines and wrinkles make deep and shallow valleys on a palm landscape. Then the steepest slope direction in each local area is first computed using the Kirsch operator, after which an orientation map is created that represents the dominant slope direction of each pixel. In this study, three orientation maps were made with different scales to represent local and global gradient information. Next, feature matching based on pixel-unit comparison was performed. The experimental results showed that the proposed method is superior to several state-of-the-art methods. In addition, the verification could be greatly improved by fusing orientation maps with different scales.

  • Objective: This study aims to compare the usefulness of subjective measures which are comprised of existing methods like NASA-TLX, Bedford-scale and ZEIS and newly developed method like DALI in measuring drivers' mental workload in terms of validity, sensitivity and diagnosticity. Background: Nowadays, with the development of intelligent vehicle and HMI, mental workload of driver has become more and more important. For this reason, the studies on drivers' mental workload about driving situation and the use of information technology equipment such as mobile phones and navigations were conducted intensively. However, the studies on measuring drivers' mental workload were rarely conducted. Moreover, most of studies on comparison of subjective measures were used with performance based measure. However, performance based measures can cause distraction effect with subjective measures. Method: Participants (N=19) were engaged in a driving simulation experiment in 2 driving contexts (downtown driving and highway driving context). The experiment has 2 sessions according to driving contexts. The level of difficulties by driving contexts were adjusted according to existence of intersections, traffic signs and signals, billboards and the number of doublings. Moreover, as criteria of concurrent validity and sensitivity, the EEG data were recorded before and during the sessions. Results: The results indicated that all subjective methods were correlates with EEG in high-way driving. On the contrary to this, in downtown driving, all subjective methods were not correlates with EEG. In terms of sensitivity, multi-dimensional scales (NASA-TLX, DALI) were the only ones to identify differences between high way and downtown driving. Finally, in terms of diagnosticity, DALI was the most suitable method for evaluating drivers' mental workload in driving context. Conclusion: The DALI as newly developed method dedicated to evaluate driver's mental workload was superior in terms of sensitivity and diagnosticity. However, researchers should consider the characteristics of each subjective method synthetically according to research objective by selecting the method in subjective measures. Application: The results of this study could be applied to the intelligent vehicle and next generation of HMI design to decrease mental workload of driver and for the development of new subjective method in vehicle domain.

  • The purpose of the present study was to identify the differences in GRBAS scales between vocal sample types (sustained vowels and connected speech) for specific laryngeal conditions (vocal nodules, vocal polyps and vocal paralysis) and the relations between GRBAS scale and Shimmer value in each vocal sample type. In this study, the total of 60 voice samples of 30 patients (10 vocal nodules, 10 vocal polyps, 10 vocal paralysis) were examined and MDVP (Multi-dimensional Voice Program) was used to analyze Shimmer value. Three listeners rated two types of samples which were sorted randomly based on GRBAS scale. Three-way ANOVA, one-way ANOVA and paired t-test were used. The outcome of this study was as follow. 1) GRBAS scales varied in vocal sample types. Listeners tended to assess voices as better quality when they listened connected speech rather than sustained vowels. 2) G score of GRBAS and Shimmer were positively correlated with statistical significance. This results show that 1) vocal specialists should consider the sample types in evaluating the severity of voice problem and 2) G score could be a simple and clear method.

  • Recently, there have been many indexing schemes for multimedia data such as image, video data. But recent database applications, for example data mining and multimedia database, are required to support multi-user environment. In order for indexing schemes to be useful in multi-user environment, a concurrency control algorithm is required to handle it. So we propose a concurrency control algorithm that can be applied to CBF (cell-based filtering method), which uses the signature of the cell for alleviating the dimensional curse problem. In addition, we extend the SHORE storage system of Wisconsin university in order to handle high-dimensional data. This extended SHORE storage system provides conventional storage manager functions, guarantees the integrity of high-dimensional data and is flexible to the large scale of feature vectors for preventing the usage of large main memory. Finally, we implement the web-based image retrieval system by using the extended SHORE storage system. The key feature of this system is platform-independent access to the high-dimensional data as well as functionality of efficient content-based queries. Lastly. We evaluate an average response time of point query, range query and k-nearest query in terms of the number of threads.

  • Single-mode spectral analysis method is usually applied to a small-scale bridges with the simple geometric shape and uses only fundamental period to estimate the elastic earthquake forces and the displacements of the substructure. On the other hand, multi-mode spectral analysis method may be used instead if the possibilities of potential damage are developed when considering significance, scale, and geometric shape of briages. Since the dynamic responses of bridge can be significantly different depending on the modeling techniques for the restraint and support conditions etc, it may be misled to the unexpected results. In this study the dynamic analysis program which can model and analyze the bridge as a two- or three-dimensional framed structure is developed and verified with the results of other reliable program. Using this program together with the post processor, the designer can easily and readily obtain the reponses(moments, base shears, and displacements)of bridges necessary to design purpose. And further from the analysis results according to the variations of type, scale, and restraint and supprot conditions of bridges including sectional properties, applications of the effective and desirable seismic design are presented.
