  • A combined DWT and DCT based watermarking technique of low frequency watermarking with weighted correction is proposed. The DWT has excellent spatial localization, frequency spread and multi-resolution characteristics, which are similar to the theoretical models of the human visual system (HVS). The DCT based watermarking techniques offer compression while DWT based watermarking techniques offer scalability. These desirable properties are used in this combined watermarking technique. In the proposed method watermark bits are embedded in the low frequency band of each DCT block of selected DWT sub-band. The weighted correction is also used to improve the imperceptibility. The extracting procedure reverses the embedding operations without the reference of the original image. Compared with the similar approach by DCT based approach and DWT based approach, the experimental results show that the proposed algorithm apparently preserves superiori mage quality and robustness under various attacks such as JPEG compression, cropping, sharping, contrast adjustments and so on.

  • This paper presents a sub-band feature extraction approach in which the feature extraction method in the individual frequency sub-bands is determined in terms of speech recognition accuracy. As in the multi-band paradigm, features are extracted independently in frequency sub-regions of the speech signal. Since the spectral shape is well structured in the low frequency region, the all pole model is effective for feature extraction. But, in the high frequency region, the nonparametric transform, discrete cosine transform is effective for the extraction of cepstrum. Using the sub-band specific feature extraction method, the linguistic information in the individual frequency sub-bands can be extracted effectively for automatic speech recognition. The validity of the proposed method is shown by comparing the results of speech recognition experiments for our method with those obtained using a full-band feature extraction method.

  • In this paper, a multi-layered metallic disk array structure(MDAS) excited by cross-dipole elements was proposed for efficiently shaping of flat-topped element patterns(FTEP) with circular polarization. The MDAS excited by cross-dipole elements has advantages to decrease in volume and weight of an overall array antenna and so, it is appropriate for the FTEP applications of a ralativlely low frequency band. In order to verify the effectness of this structure, the MDAS breadboard operated at X-band(7.9 ∼ 8.4 GHz) was fabricated, and its design parameters were experimentally optimized on the basis of the previous design experience. The experimental results were shown that the MDAS could shape good FTEPs of ${\pm}$20$^{\circ}$beam width at least within a 6.1 % frequency band.

  • One of evaluation indicators of candidate waveforms for 5G mobile communication is spectral efficiency improvement by OOB(Out of Band) power reduction technique. In this paper, time-frequency resource allocation characteristic of UFMC(Universal Filtered Multi-Carrier), FBMC(Filter Bank Multi-Carrier), and W-OFDM(Weighted Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) system is evaluated and analyzed. As simulation results, spectral efficiency characteristic of these systems have been improved according to time resource allocation. In this paper, we can confirm that each system has similar time-frequency efficiency characteristic when the number of transmission bit is same and four symbols are transmitted with the linear system condition. Also, we can conclude that FBMC system has the lowest time-frequency resource efficiency under the nonlinear condition.

  • This paper presents a new method for designing a dual-band WIFI antenna using the third-order harmonic mode of a monopole antenna whose first-order mode operates at the low frequency band of WIFI. As analysing the current distribution of the third-order mode of this monopole antenna, the strongest point of electric field can be found. Then by attaching a stub at this point, the resonant frequency of the stub radiator can be adjusted from the third-order mode of the monopole antenna into the high frequency band of WIFI and the input impedance at this resonant frequency can be controlled with the width of the branch, without affecting the low frequency band of WIFI (the first-order mode of the monopole antenna). The compact dual-band antenna is designed at the size of an USB(universal serial bus) dongle and the bandwidth covers 600 MHz(2.3~3 GHz) at 2 GHz and 1 GHz(4.9~5.9 GHz) at 5 GHz under -10 dB which is satisfied with WLAN frequency. Efficiency of proposed antenna achieves over 50 % at WLAN frequency.

  • Recent premium smartphones commonly employ a metal frame and this trend is currently spreading over mid-range smartphones. However, the metal frame becomes a good coupling path of electromagnetic noises emitted from digital components in smartphones and then increases radio-frequency interference(RFI) to RF antennas located at top and bottom sides of smartphones. This paper proposed a metal frame with EBG(Electromagnetic Band Gap) structure to reduce the noise coupling to antenna by suppressing surface wave on the metal frame. By simulation, it is confirmed that the proposed metal frame with $7{\times}6$ mushroom-type EBG array pattern with multi-via can reduce the noise coupling to RF antenna by about 20 dB.

  • In this paper, we present performance analysis of an IEEE P802.15.3a high rate wireless personal area network transceiver. This physical layer standard uses QOSK as its sub-channel modulation scheme and orthogonal frequency domain modulation (OFDM) for sub-bands. OFDM is used for each sub-band so that multi-path effects are absorbed by equalizer and guard, and fading can be approximately modeled as additive white Gaussian noise. In multi-band ultra-wideband system, DAC quantization error is important noise source since high resolution conversion cannot be used due to high power consumption. Simulation result shows that, to get 640-Mbps throughput, at least 5-bits precision is necessary to maintain bit-error rate under 10$\^$-2/, which can be lowered, with channel coding, to 10$\^$-6/ that is the bit-error rate required by IEEE 802.15 upper protocol layer, in 4-meter LOS fading channel.

  • The design is presented for a SATCOM antenna capable of simultaneous multi-band (X/Ku/Ka-Band) communications without replacement of feed horns or change of other parts in the application as a ground satellite terminal for large data transfer. The antenna is the offset configuration and consists of a dual-band(X/Ka-band) feed horn, a single-band(Ku-band) feed horn, a frequency selective surface(FSS) sub-reflector and a parabolic main-reflector. The antenna has a main reflector defining a prime focus and a frequency selective surface sub-reflector defining an image focus. A dual-band feed and a single-band feed are provided at each of the prime focus and image focus. The antenna is designed using 3D EM simulator and the gains measured in X/Ku/Ka-band of the complete antenna assembly is more than 31.6dBi, 36.8dBi, 40.8dBi, and the cross polarization is 21.7dB, 26.6dB, 25.2dB, respectively.

  • Traditionally, in multi-user multi-carrier systems, the neighboring subband will be gapped by one subcarrier, which is set as guard band to reduce multiple access interference (MAI) between neighboring subbands. The empty subcarrier for guard band will degrade the spectral efficiency of the whole system. In order to enhance the spectral efficiency of multi-user filter bank multiple carrier (FBMC) systems, a new subband allocation method is introduced, in which the neighboring subband is gapped by half subcarrier instead of one subcarrier. Meanwhile, in order to implement the proposed resource allocation scheme, an optimized FBMC prototype filter is designed to decrease the inter-subband interference to the neighboring subband. The detailed simulations about the comparison between the proposed spectrum assignment and traditional FBMC are given, as well as the performance in the different interference scenarios. The simulation results show that the combination of the proposed spectrum assignment scheme and the optimized filter has better performance compared to the traditional scheme. The proposed scheme can be used in the system which serves massive users to get higher spectrum efficiency.

  • A CMOS frequency synthesizer block for multi-band orthogonal frequency division multiplexing ultra-wideband systems is proposed. The proposed frequency synthesizer adopts a double-conversion architecture for simplicity and to mitigate spur suppression requirements for out-of-band interferers in 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. Moreover, the frequency synthesizer can consist of the fewest nonlinear components, such as divide-by-Ns and a mixer with the proposed frequency plan, leading to the generation of less spurs. To evaluate the feasibility of the proposed idea, the frequency synthesizer block is implemented in 0.18-${\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The measured sideband suppression ratio is about 32 dBc, and the phase noise is -105 dBc/Hz at an offset of 1 MHz. The fabricated chip consumes 17.6 mA from a 1.8 V supply, and the die-area including pads is $0.9{\times}1.1\;mm^2$.
