Low Power Reliable Asynchronous Digital Circuit Design for Sensor System (센서 시스템을 위한 저전력 고신뢰의 비동기 디지털 회로 설계)

  • The delay-insensitive Null Convention Logic (NCL) asynchronous design as one of innovative asynchronous logic design methodologies has many advantages of inherent robustness, power consumption, and easy design reuses. However, transistor-level structures of conventional NCL gate cells have weakness of high area overhead and high power consumption. This paper proposes a new NCL gate based on power gating structure. The proposed $4{\times}4$ NCL multiplier based on power gating structure is compared to the conventional NCL $4{\times}4$ multiplier and MTNCL(Multi-Threshold NCL) $4{\times}4$ multiplier in terms of speed, power consumption, energy and size using PTM 45 nm technology.

Rail Surface Defect Detection System of Next-Generation High Speed Train (차세대 고속열차의 레일표면 결함 검출 시스템)

  • In this paper, we proposed the automatic vision inspection system using multi-layer perceptron to detect the defects occurred on rail surface. The proposed system consists of image acquisition part and analysis part. Rail surface image is acquired as equal interval using line scan camera and lighting. Mean filter and dynamic threshold is used to reduce noise and segment defect area. Various features to characterize the defects are extracted. And they are used to train and distinguish defects by MLP-classifier. The system is installed on HEMU-430X and applied to analyze the rail surface images acquired from Honam-line at high speed up to 300 km/h. Recognition rate is calculated through comparison with manual inspection results.

  • The camera has limitations of poor visibility in underwater environment due to the limited light source and medium noise of the environment. However, its usefulness in close range has been proved in many studies, especially for navigation. Thus, in this paper, vision-based object detection and tracking techniques using artificial objects for underwater robots have been studied. We employed template matching and mean shift algorithms for the object detection and tracking methods. Also, we propose the weighted correlation coefficient of adaptive threshold -based and color-region-aided approaches to enhance the object detection performance in various illumination conditions. The color information is incorporated into the template matched area and the features of the template are used to robustly calculate correlation coefficients. And the objects are recognized using multi-template matching approach. Finally, the water basin experiments have been conducted to demonstrate the performance of the proposed techniques using an underwater robot platform yShark made by KORDI.

  • For the psychophysical experiment of tactile perception of shapes, experimental system consists of vibrator, tactile stimulation array, measurement and control system is designed and prepared. The psychophysical experiment for the tactile perception of shape is carried out by the estimation of the subject group. Through the experiment the threshold of tactile perception to multi-stimuli with some line shape is obtained. Also the appropriate tactile stimulus intensity and frequency of the tactile stimulation array to recognize arbitrary shapes effectively are derived and discussed.

  • Caching of frequently accessed data in multi-hop ad hoc environment is a technique that can improve data access performance and availability. Cooperative caching, which allows sharing and coordination of cached data among several clients, can further en-hance the potential of caching techniques. In this paper, we propose a fuzzy cooperative caching scheme in mobile ad hoc networks. The cache management of the proposed caching scheme not only uses adaptively CacheData or CachePath based on data sim-ilarity and data utility, but also uses the replacement manager based on data pro t. Also, the proposed caching scheme uses a prefetch manager. When the TTL of the cached data expires, the prefetch manager evaluates the popularity index of the data. If the popularity index is larger than a threshold, the data is prefetched. Otherwise, its space is released. The performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated analytically and is compared to that of other cooperative caching schemes.

  • A scheme of clarifying fault feature in the residual is given for model-based fault detection and diagnosis of control systems. It is based on the residual generation using a robust filter and the noise suppresion in test statistics of the residual by multi-scale discrete wavelet transform. By clarifying the fault feature in the residual, the difficulties of existing model based approaches via adopting a threshold can be overcomed and it has advantage of taking the false alarm and missed detection into acount at the same time, which can make the fault detection and diagnosis easy and correct.   • AC and DC conductivity of the MWNT(Multi walled nanotubes)/polyurethane composites were investigated with respect to the various oxidative conditions, where these means acid concentration, treatment temperature, and treatment time. We suppose that the conditions of oxidation of the MWNTS have a certain influence on the degree of functionalization, damages, and dispersion of the MWNT themselves. Futhermore, the electrical properties of the resulting composites strongly depend on the oxidative conditions of MWNTS. The conductivity of the composites produced by using the optimal condition was measured as a function of frequency with volume content of MWNTS. These experimental results were analyzed using percolation theory Electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (SE) of the mixtures of polyurethane (PU), optimized MWNTs, and silver (Ag) is measured in the frequency range from 10 MHz to 6 ㎓ by using ASTM D4935-89. The measured SEs of the mixtures could be controlled from about 55 dB to 85 dB with the compositions of Ag/MWNT and compounding methods(C1, C2).

Negative Differential Resistance Devices with Ultra-High Peak-to-Valley Current Ratio and Its Multiple Switching Characteristics

  • We propose a novel negative differential resistance (NDR) device with ultra-high peak-to-valley current ratio (PVCR) by combining pn junction diode with depletion mode nanowire (NW) transistor, which suppress the valley current with transistor off-leakage level. Band-to-band tunneling (BTBT) Esaki diode with degenerately doped pn junction can provide multiple switching behavior having multi-peak and valley currents. These multiple NDR characteristics can be controlled by doping concentration of tunnel diode and threshold voltage of NW transistor. By designing our NDR device, PVCR can be over $10^4$ at low operation voltage of 0.5 V in a single peak and valley current.

  • Electrical conductivity of the oxidized MWNT(Multi walled nanotubes)/polymer composites were investigated with respect to various oxidative conditions of acid concentration, treatment temperature, and treatment time. To remove the impurities existing in MWNT-deposites, liquid-phase oxidation was performed using the $HNO_3/HSO_4$ mixtures. Secondary effects occurred by the oxidation of MWNTs such as the damages of MWNTs and the introduction of functionalities were analyzed through measuring FT-IR, TEM, and zeta potential, All the oxidized NWNTs were functionalized with carboxylic groups and the conditions of oxidation of the MWNTs could have a certain influence on the degree of functionalization, damages, and dispersion of the MWNT. The electrical properties of MWNT composites strongly depend on the oxidative conditions of MWNTs. The conductivity of the composites filled with the proper oxidized MWNT showed the highest percolation threshold.

A Fast Thresholding Method For Pattern Matching (패턴매칭을 위한 고속 스레쉬홀딩법)

  • For pattern matching, an object image should be segmented and analyzed for the first time. Thresholding is a fundamental approach to segmentation that utilizes a significant degree of pixel popularity or intensity. Otsu's thresholding is one of the most veil-known methods proposed in the literature. However, the method has a disadvantage of repeatedly searching the optimal thresholds for the entire region. To overcome this problem, a number of methods have been proposed. In this paper, we propose a simple and fast thresholding method of finding multi-level threshold values by extending the Otsu's method. Our experimental results for the benchmak images show a possibility that the proposed method could be used efficiently for pattern matching.
