The objective of this research was to develop ecological multi-metric models using natural fish assemblages for a diagnosis of current stream health condition, and apply the model to nationwide lotic ecosystems of the Geum River, the Youngsan River, and the Sumjin River. The ecological stream health model was based on the index of biological integrity (IBI), which was originally developed in North American streams by Karr (1981), and the Rapid Bioassessment Protocol (RBP), which was scientifically established by the US EPA (1999). The metric numbers and metric attributes were partially changed for the regional applications, so the scoring criteria was modified for the assessment. Overall, metric values, based on the IBI calculations, reflected conventional water quality characteristics, based on nutrient regime, and agreed with results of staticeco-toxicity tests. Some stations impaired in terms of stream health were identified by the IBI approach, and also major key stressors affecting the stream health were identified by additional evaluations of physical habitats. Our preliminary results suggested that biological integrity in stream ecosystems was largely disturbed by habitat degradation as well as chemical pollutions. This new approach would be used as a key tool for ecological restorations and species conservations in the degraded aquatic ecosystems in Korea and applied for elucidating major causes of ecological disturbances. Ultimately, this approach provides us an effective management strategy of stream ecosystems through establishments of ecological networks in various watersheds.
This paper deals with a resource efficient artificial intelligence (AI) service architecture for multi-channel video streams. As an AI service, we consider the object detection model, which is the most representative for video applications. Since most object detection models are basically designed for a single channel video stream, the utilization of the additional resource for multi-channel video stream processing is inevitable. Therefore, we propose a resource efficient AI service framework, which can be associated with various AI service models. Our framework is designed based on the modular architecture, which consists of adaptive frame control (AFC) Manager, multiplexer (MUX), adaptive channel selector (ACS), and YOLO interface units. In order to run only a single YOLO process without regard to the number of channels, we propose a novel approach efficiently dealing with multi-channel input streams. Through the experiment, it is shown that the framework is capable of performing object detection service with minimum resource utilization even in the circumstance of multi-channel streams. In addition, each service can be guaranteed within a deadline.

The water quality of Lake Shihwa had been rapidly deteriorating since 1994 due to wastewater input from the watersheds, limited water circulation and the lack of a wastewater treatment policy. In 2000, the government decided to open the tidal embankment and make a comprehensive management plan to improve the water quality, especially inflowing stream water around Shihwa and Banwol industrial complex. However, the water quality and microbial community have not as yet been fully evaluated. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influent water quality around the industrial area based on chemical and biological analysis, and collected surface water sample from the Siheung Stream, up-stream to down-stream through the industrial complex, Samples were collected in July 2009. The results show that the downstream site near the industrial complex had higher concentrations of heavy metals (Cu, Mn, Fe, Mg, and Zn) and organic matter than upstream sites. A combination of DGGE (Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis) gels, lists of K-WQI (Korean Water Quality Index), cluster analysis, MDS (Multi-Dimensional Scaling) and PCA (Principal Component Analysis) has demonstrated clear clustering between Siheung stream 3 and 4 and with a high similarity and detected metal reducing bacteria (Shewanella spp.) and biodegrading bacteria (Acinetobacter spp.). These results suggest that use of both chemical and microbiological marker would be useful to fully evaluate the water quality.
A data stream is a series of tuples which are generated in real-time, incessant, immense, and volatile manner. As new information technologies are actively emerging, stream processing methods are being needed to efficiently handle data streams. Especially, finding out an efficient evaluation for a multi-way join would make outstanding contributions toward improving the performance of a data stream management system because a join operation is one of the most resource-consuming operators for evaluating queries. In this paper, in order to evaluate efficiently a multi-way join continuous query, we propose a novel method to decrease the cost of a query by eliminating unsuccessful intermediate results. For this, we propose a matrix-based structure for monitoring data streams and estimate the number of final result tuples of the query and find out unsuccessful tuples by matrix multiplication operations. And then using these information, we process efficiently a multi-way join continuous query by filtering out the unsuccessful tuples in advance before actual evaluation of the query.
The objectives of this study were to determine the effects of stream nutrient regime, N:P ratios and suspended solids on fish tolerance/trophic compositions and stream ecosystem health, based on multi-metric model, during 2008-2013. Also, stream ecosystem health was evaluated in relation to chlorophyll-a (CHL) as a measure of algal productivity or indicators of trophic state to water chemical parameters. Total number of sampled fish species were 50 and showed a decreasing trend from 2008 to 2013. The minnow of Zacco platypus, based on the catch per unit effort (CPUE), was the most dominant species (25.9%) among the all species. Spatial heterogeneity was evident in the fish tolerance guilds that showed the dominance of sensitive species (89%) in the headwaters (S1) and the dominance of tolerant species (57%) in the urban. These conditions were directly influenced by concentrations of nutrients and organic matter (COD). The N:P ratios, as a barometer of water pollution, had a negative linear function (R2 = 0.40, P < 0.01) with CHL, and the ratios had an important role in changes of COD concentration (R2 = 0.40, P < 0.01). Under the circumstances, the N:P ratio directly influenced the relative proportions of fish trophic/tolerance compositions. According to the regression analysis of omnivore (Om) and insectivore sp. (In) on total nitrogen and total phosphorus, nitrogen had no significant influences (P > 0.05) to the two compositions, but phosphorus influenced directly the two guilds [slope (a) = -32.3, R2 = 0.25, P < 0.01 in the In; a = 40.7, R2 = 0.19, P < 0.01 in the Om]. Such water chemistry and fish trophic guilds determined the stream ecosystem health, based on the multi-metric fish model.
Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) provides the multi-homing feature, which allows each SCTP endpoint to use two or more IP addresses for data transmission. In this paper, the SCTP multi-homing feature is experimented and analyzed in terms of throughput over Linux platforms based on the NISTNET network emulator. We perform the experimental analysis of SCTP throughputs by SCTP multi-homing for the various network conditions: different packet loss rates, network bandwidths, and transmission delays. From the experimental results, it is shown that the SCTP multi-homing gives much better throughout gun over the SCTP single-homing case in the networks with a high packet loss rate. In the meantime, the other factors including network bandwidth and transmission delay do not seem to give a significant impact on the performance of the SCTP multi-homing.
This study assessed ecological health using a multi-metric fish model from 15 sites in the headwater watershed of southern Han River during June${\sim}$August 1999 and then compared the health with conventional community diversity index to figure out differences between health and diversity index. For the analysis, we adopted 10 metric IBI model for regional applications. During this survey, total number of species sampled were 24 (6 families) and varied depending on magnitude of ecological disturbance and stream order. In the mountainous streams, mean proportion of sensitive and insectivore species was composed of 91% and 56%, respectively, indicating a potential healthy conditions. However, tolerant species with 66% and omnivore species with 76% were sampled from the 2nd order stream, which was shown deterioration in the physical habitat quality. In the overall watershed, mean IBI value was 38, judging as "fair" condition by the health criteria. Values of Individual IBI were closely associated with stream order and this pattern was similar to other mountainous streams showing low chemical pollutions and disturbance. Our comparison between IBI and diversity index over the stream order showed a distinct difference; Shannon-Weaver diversity index overestimated the actual community conditions and the variation range in the 2nd order stream was greater in the diversity index. Overall data suggest that the multi-metric approach may to a useful tool for stream ecosystem management and the conventional diversity index may not effective unless the stream order is considered for the stream evaluation.

This paper suggests structures of the Object Descriptor and the Elementary Stream Descriptor that provide multi-view video services in 3-Dimensional Audio Video technical standards of current MPEG-4. First, it defines that the structures of the Object Descriptor and the Elementary Stream Descriptor on established MPEG-4 system, then distributes individually, and analyzes that. But extension of established system is inappropriate for providing multi-view audio video services connected transmissions and receptions. And, this paper suggests a structure of new Object Descriptor able to switch viewpoints that considers the correlation between each viewpoints, when multi-view video is transmitted. By means of that, it is able to switch viewpoints according to a requirement of a user in a multi-view video services, and reduce overheads for transmitting information about necessary viewpoint.
The multi-view video service based on the DASH(Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP) switches the viewpoint or object which is selected by the user among the multiple video streams captured by multiple cameras. However, the problem is that the conventional DASH-based multi-view video service takes a long time to switch the viewpoint. The reason is that the conventional scheme switches to the new video stream after consuming all buffered segments of the previous video stream. In this paper, we propose a video streaming scheme for minimizing the viewpoint switching delay in the DASH-based multi-view video service. In order to minimize the viewpoint switching delay, the proposed scheme configures the video streams by controlling the GoP (Group of Pictures) size and controls the client buffer based on bandwidth estimation and playback buffer occupancy. Through the experimental results, we prove that the proposed scheme reduces the viewpoint switching delay.
The Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (T-DMB) system supplies high quality audio comparable with VCD in 7 inch display and high quality audio comparable CD at the mobile reception environment T-DMB will launch commercial service at the middle of 2005. However the bandwidth for audio data and the number of channels are restricted to 128 kbps and 2 respectively in the current T-DMB standard because of the limitation of available bandwidth for multimedia data. This Paper Proposes a novel media processor structure for providing multi-channel audio contents oyer T-DMB system allowing backward compatibility with the legacy T-DMB receiver. Furthermore. we also Propose an adaptive receiver structure to supply optimal audio contents on various speaker configuration in T-DMB receiver. To provide multi-channel audio contents allowing backward comaptilbity with the legacy T-DMB receiver, the additional data for multi-channel audio are defined as a dependent stream of main audio stream. The OD strucure for control an additional multi-channel audio elementary stream is proposed without changing the BIFS of the legacy T-DMB system.
