Radar task scheduling deals with the assignment of task to efficiently enhance the radar performance on the limited resource environment. In this paper, total weighted tardiness is adopted as the objective function of task scheduling in operation of multiple multi-function radars. To take into account real-time implementability, heuristic index-based methods are presented and investigated. Numerical simulations for generic search and track scenarios are performed to evaluate the proposed methods, in particular investigating the effectiveness of multi-radar operation concepts.
A method for performing two-dimensional lift-constraint drag minimization in inviscid compressible flows on unstructured meshes is developed. Sensitivities of objective function with respect to the design variables are efficiently obtained by using a continuous adjoint method. In addition, parallel algorithm is used in multi-point design optimization to enhance the computational efficiency. The characteristics of single-point and multi-point optimization are examined, and the comparison of these two method is presented.

A mathematical definition of the cluster is suggested. A nonlinear 0-1 integer programming formulation for the multi-dimensional entity clustering problem is developed. A heuristic method named MDEC (Multi-Dimensional Entity Clustering) using centroids and the binary partition is developed and the numerical examples are shown. This method has an advantage of providing bottle-neck entity informations.
A multi-objective optimization technique was implemented to obtain optimal topologies of the inner reinforcement for a vehicle's hood simultaneously considering the static stiffness of bending and torsion and natural frequency. In addition, a smoothing scheme was used to suppress the checkerboard patterns in the ESO method. Two models with different curvature were chosen in order to investigate the effect of curvature on the static stiffness and natural frequency of the inner reinforcement. A scale factor was employed to properly reflect the effect of each objective function. From several combinations of weighting factors, a Pareto-optimal topology solution was obtained. As the weighting factor for the elastic strain efficiency went from 1 to 0, the optimal topologies transmitted from the optimal topology of a static stiffness problem to that of a natural frequency problem. It was also found that the higher curvature model had a larger static stiffness and natural frequency than the lower curvature model. From the results, it is concluded that the ESO method with a smoothing scheme was effectively applied to topology optimization of the inner reinforcement of a vehicle's hood.
The preliminary design optimization of multi-stage spur gear reduction units has been a subject of considerable interest, since many high-performance power transmission applications (e.g., automotive and aerospace) require high-performance gear reduction units. There are multiple objectives in the optimal design of multi-stage spur gear reduction unit, such as minimizing the volume and maximizing the surface fatigue life. It is reasonable to formulate the design of spur gear reduction unit as a multi-objective optimization problem, and find an appropriate approach to solve it. In this paper an interactive physical programming approach is developed to place physical programming into an interactive framework in a natural way. Class functions, which are used to represent the designer's preferences on design objectives, are fixed during the interactive physical programming procedure. After a Pareto solution is generated, a preference offset is added into the class function of each objective based on whether the designer would like to improve this objective or sacrifice the objective so as to improve other objectives. The preference offsets are adjusted during the interactive physical programming procedure, and an optimal solution that satisfies the designer's preferences is supposed to be obtained by the end of the procedure. An optimization problem of three-stage spur gear reduction unit is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
When a fault occurs in a power system, the existing analytic models for the power system fault diagnosis could generate multiple solutions under the condition of one or more protective relays (PRs) and/or circuit breakers (CBs) malfunctioning, and/or an alarm or alarms of these PRs and/or CBs failing. Therefore, this paper presents an improved analytic model addressing the above problem. It takes into account the interaction between the uncertainty involved with PR operation and CB tripping and the uncertainty of the alarm reception, which makes the analytic model more reasonable. In addition, the existing analytic models apply the penalty function method to deal with constraints, which is influenced by the artificial setting of the penalty factor. In order to avoid the penalty factor's effects, this paper transforms constraints into an objective function, and then puts forward an improved immune clonal multi-objective optimization algorithm to solve the optimal solution. Finally, the cases of the power system fault diagnosis are served for demonstrating the feasibility and efficiency of the proposed model and method.

A multi-agent system is a system that aims at achieving the best-coordinated decision based on each agent's local decision. In this paper, we consider a multi agent-multi task assignment problem. Each agent is assigned to only one task and there is a completion probability for performing. The objective is to determine an assignment that maximizes the sum of the completion probabilities for all tasks. The problem, expressed as a non-linear objective function and combinatorial optimization, is NP-hard. It is necessary to design an effective and efficient solution methodology. This paper presents an approximation algorithm using submodularity, which means a marginal gain diminishing, and demonstrates the scalability and robustness of the algorithm in theoretical and experimental ways.

A study on the topology optimization of a multi-spectral camera for space-use is presented. The optimization is carried out under self-weight and polishing pressure loading. A multi-spectral camera for space-use experiences degradation of optical image in the space, which can not be detected on the optical test bench on the earth. An optical surface deformation of a primary mirror, which is a principal component of the camera system, is an important factor affecting the optical performance of the whole camera system. In this study, topology optimization of the primary mirror of the camera is presented. As an objective function, a measure of Strehl ratio is used. Total mass of the primary mirror is given as a constraint to the optimization problem. The sensitivities of the objective function and constraint are calculated by direct differentiation method. Optimization procedure is carried out by an optimality criteria method. For the light-weight primary mirror design, a three dimensional model is treated. As a preliminary example, topology optimization considering a self-weight loading is treated. In the second example, the polishing pressure is also included as a loading in the topology optimization of the mirror. Results of the optimized design topology for the mirror with various mass constraints are presented.

Domestic hydraulic drifters till now have been developed by benchmarking products from overseas leading companies. However, they do not have excellent impact performance as they are not suitable for characteristics (large flow rate and low pressure) of Korean hydraulic drill power pack, and therefore, research on the optimum design has not made much headway. This study performs multi-objective function optimization for hydraulic drifters whose capacity has been redesigned to deal with the large flow rate, and also with the help of this function, it aims to improve impact power and reduce supply and surge pressure. A summary of the research study is as follows: First, we set goals for improving impact power, supply pressure, and surge pressure, and then perform multi-objective function optimization on them. After that, we secure the reliability of the optimized analytical model by comparing the test results of the prototype built by the optimized design with the analysis results of the analytical model. This study used SimulationX, that is the hydraulic system analysis software, and EasyDesign, which is a multi-objective function optimization program. Through this research, we have achieved the results that satisfy the goal of developing high power drifters suitable for Korean type hydraulic drills.
