Genotoxicity Assay Using Chromosomally-Integrated Bacterial recA::Lux

  • An Escherichia coli strain containing the recA promoter that fused to the luxCDABE operon originating from Photorhabdus luminescens was shown to respond sensitively to genotoxic stresses. Two different recombinant bacteria, one (DPDI 657) harboring a plasmid with the recA promoter that fused to the luxCDABE operon, and the other (DPD1710) containing a chromosomally-integrated recA promoter that fused with luxCDABE, were compared and it was found that the sensitivity of 'the two strains was significantly different in terms of their bioluminescent level, response time, and the minimum detectable concentration of a chemical causing DNA damaging stress. DPDI 710, with a chromosomally-integrated single copy, generally led to lower basal luminescence levels, faster responses, increased response ratios, and an enhanced sensitivity to mutagens, when compared to DPD 1657 with a multi-copy plasmid.

The Hydrogeological Conditions in the Granitic Area for the Research Program of HLW Disposal in Korea

  • The geological research as a part of HLW disposal program in Korea is carried out to provide necessary data for the establishment of the reference repository system in term of design and safety assessment in the crystalline rock terrains. Six deep boreholes were drilled to obtain hydrogeological and hydrochemical data from Jurassic granites in the Yuseong area, Korea. The core observation, televiewer logging and hydraulic testing were carried out during and after drilling and multi-packer system were installed in the boreholes of 500m depth for hydraulic and hydrochemical monitoring including environmental isotopes. The integration of hydrogeochemical and hydrodynamic data would be built greater confidence for the understanding of groundwater system in fractured rock mass. This geoscientific program could be possible to suggest a general guideline to develop the reference disposal concept of high-level radioactive waste in Korea.

The Hidden Catalyst for Industrial Convergence between the MMOG Industry and the Online Broadcasting Industry in South Korea

  • This paper explores the convergence process by focusing on the massively multiplayer online game(MMOG) industry and the online broadcasting industry in South Korea. In doing so, the paper seeks to establish the concept of Hidden catalysts for the integration process between the two industries and explore the roles of the Hidden catalysts in triggering the industry's transition. Further, the modified multi-level socio-technical model we applied in our research allows us both to understand each industry's development towards convergence in various dimensions and also to focus on the activities of the Hidden catalysts. In assessing the role of Hidden catalysts in industry convergence, we found that Hidden catalysts depend on two essential features: first, appropriate technology leading to the new industry dominance; and second, managerial capabilities to deal with conflicts among other new interest groups, to harmonise with government initiatives for industry development and to create new value in the integrated market to please the demand of mixed customers.

Regression Algorithms Evaluation for Analysis of Crosstalk in High-Speed Digital System

  • As technology advances, processor speeds are increasing at a rapid pace and digital systems require a significant amount of data bandwidth. As a result, careful consideration of signal integrity is required to ensure reliable and high-speed data processing. Crosstalk has become a vital area of research in signal integrity for electronic packages, mainly because of the high level of integration. Analytic formulas were analyzed in this study to identify the features that can predict crosstalk in multi-conductor transmission lines. Through the analysis, five variables were found and obtained a dataset consisting of 302,500, data points. The study evaluated the performance of various regression models for optimization via automatic machine learning by comparing the machine learning predictions with the analytic solution. Extra tree regression consistently outperformed other algorithms, with coefficients of determination exceeding 0.9 and root mean square logarithmic errors below 0.35. The study also notes that different algorithms produced varied predictions for the two metrics.

  • Major global powers are investing heavily in artificial intelligence (AI) and hyper-connected networks, demonstrating their crucial role in future warfare. To advance and utilize AI in national defense, it is essential to have policy support at the governmental or national level. This includes establishing a research and development infrastructure, creating a common development environment, and fostering AI expertise through education and training programs. To achieve advancements in hyper-connected networks, it is essential to establish a foundation for a robust and resilient infrastructure by comprehensively building integrated satellite, aerial, and ground networks, along with developing 5G & edge computing and low-orbit satellite communication technologies. This multi-faceted approach will ensure the successful integration of AI and hyper-connected networks, strengthening national defense and positioning nations at the forefront of technological advancements in warfare.

다문화청소년 성장환경에 대한 탐색적 연구 (Exploratory Study on the Multi-cultural Background Adolescent's Growth Environment in Busan)

  • 본 연구는 다문화청소년의 성장과 적응을 위한 현재의 환경개선과 서비스 프로그램의 탐색 개선을 위한 목적으로 한다. 연구의 목적을 위하여 부산광역시 다문화청소년 588명을 대상으로 설문조사, 서비스를 제공하는 전문가 8명은 포커스그룹인터뷰를 실행하였다. 첫째, 설문지 분석결과로 초등학교 재학이 가장 많으며 출생별 서비스에 대한 욕구의 차이와 경제적수준에 따른 대인관계가 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 인정되었다. 둘째, 다문화청소년 전문가 그룹인터뷰결과, 다문화청소년 현재의 문제로는 학업수준과 대인관계로 지적되었다. 다문화청소년 당사자 욕구파악을 토대로 가족차원의 통합적인 서비스를 중심으로 그리고 동화주의의 차원이 아니라 그들의 문화를 인정하고 그들이 직접 참여하는 서비스가 필요하다고 논의되었다. 이에 대한 제언으로. 당사자참여의 서비스 기획과 전문성을 위한 인력배치와 인센티브제도 정착, 지역 조직간의 네트워크 구성을 통한 가족단위의 통합지원서비스와 마지막으로 지역사회가 참여하는 분위기 조성이 제언되었다.

지질 주제도 작성을 위한 지표 조사 자료와 부가 자료의 지구통계학적 통합 (Geostatistical Integration of Ground Survey Data and Secondary Data for Geological Thematic Mapping)

  • 다양한 지질 주제도는 현지 조사에 의해 부분적으로 샘플링된 공간 자료의 내삽을 통해 작성되어 왔으며, 공간적 예측을 위해 공간적 상관성을 고려하는 지구통계학적 크리깅이 많이 적용되어 왔다. 이 논문에서는 지질 주제도 작성을 목적으로 부분적인 샘플링 자료와 이와 상관된 부가자료를 통합하기 위해 다변량 지구통계 기법을 적용하였다. 다변량 지구통계 기법으로 simple kriging with local means와 kriging with an external drift를 적용하였다. 지하수위 분포도 작성과 퇴적물 입도 분포도 작성의 2가지 사례연구를 수행하였는데, 지하수위 분포도 작성에는 지하수위 분포 샘플링 자료와 수치고도모델을, 퇴적물 입도분포도 작성에는 입도 샘플링 자료와 IKONOS 원격탐사 자료를 이용하였다. 사례연구 수행결과, 다변량 지구통계 기법이 그동안 많이 이용되어온 단변량 지구통계 기법 친 정규 크리깅에 비해 작은 추정 오차를 나타내면서 국소적인 특성을 반영할 수 있었다. 그러나 추정 오차의 정도는 샘플링 밀도, 부가자료와의 상관성과 공간자료 자체의 상관성 정도에 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났는데, 특히 퇴적물 입도 분포도 작성 사례연구에서 이러한 요소들이 상호 영향을 미쳐 부가자료의 이용 효과가 상대적으로 적게 나타났다.

QUICK-LOOK TEST OF KOMPSAT-2 FOR IMAGE CHAIN VERIFICATION

  • KOMPSAT -2 equipped with an optical telescope(MSC) will be launched in this year. It can take images of the earth with push-broom scanning at altitude 685Km. Its resolution is 1m in panchromatic channel with a swath width of 15 km After the MSC is tested and the performance is measured at instrument level, it is installed on satellite. The image passes through the electro-optical system, compression and storage unit and fmally downlink sub-systems. This integration procedure necessitates the functional test of all subsystems participating in the image chain. The objective of functional test at satellite level(Quick Look test) is to check the functionality of image chain by real target image. Collimated moving image is input to the EOS in order to simulate the operational environments as if KOMPSAT -2 is being operated in orbit. The image chain from EOS to data downlink subsystem will be verified through Quick Look test. This paper explains the Quick Look test of KOMPSAT -2 and compares the taken images with collimated input ones.

  • 본 논문에서는 IEC 61850 및 IEEE c37.238 표준 기반 정밀 시각 동기 적용 HW/SW 통합 플랫폼을 통한 미래 전력시스템 보호 기술을 제시하였다. 제시한 통합 플랫폼의 구현 성능을 확인하기 위해 표준에서 요구하는 시각 동기의 정밀성과 지연 시간을 만족하도록 하는 EVM(Evaluation Module) 예제를 구성하였다. 이를 실제 EVM과 네트워크 스위치로 이루어진 형태로 구현하여 동작 시험을 수행하였고, 본 논문에서 제시한 플랫폼이 시각 동기 표준에서 요구하는 수준의 시각 동기 오차와 전력시스템 보호에서 요구하는 수준의 지연 시간을 만족하는 미래 전력시스템 통합 IED(Intelligent Electronic Device) HW/SW 기술임을 확인하였다.

이중 보간 기법을 이용한 MLFMA 가속기법 (Acceleration of the Multi-Level Fast Multipole Algorithm using Double Interpolation Technique)

  • This paper proposes an acceleration of the multi-level fast multipole algorithm(MLFMA) by using a double interpolation method. The MLFMA has been primarily used to conduct scattering analysis of electrically large targets, e.g. stealth aircraft. In the MLFMA, radiation functions of each basis functions are first precomputed, and then aggregated. After transfer calculations for the aggregations, each interaction is disaggregated, and then received in the testing function. The key idea of the proposed method is to decrease the sampling rates of the radiation and receiving functions. The computational complexity of the unit sphere integration in terms of the testing functions is thus highly alleviated. The remaining insufficient sampling rate is then complemented by using additional interpolation. We demonstrate the performance of the proposed method through radar cross-section(RCS) calculations for realistic aircraft.
