CFD analysis has been conducted to find the two stage impeller configuration which is the most suitable for a stirred tank with an internal helical cooling coil and a cooling jacket, which is frequently used in chemical industries for highly exothermic reactions ranged from low to medium viscosity. Two typical types of impellers are considered; pitched paddle impellers and Rushton turbine impellers. Interestingly, pitched paddle impellers show a good mixing performance for multi-species, whereas Rushton turbine impellers achieve a good mixing performance for multi-phases. Besides the type of an impeller, the location of an impeller is another important factor to be considered in order to accomplish an effective mixing. The best set of types and locations of two impellers is recommended based on the coefficient of variation(CoV) value and the heat removal capability obtained from CFD results. The former is a measure to quantify the degree of mixing.
The main objective was to develop and assess a dynamic fate and transport model for lead in air, soil, sediment, water and vegetation. Daejeon was chosen as the study area for its relatively high contamination and emission levels. The model was assessed by comparing model predictions with measured concentrations in multi-media and atmospheric deposition flux. Given a lead concentration in air, the model could predict the concentrations in water and soil within a factor of five. Sensitivity analysis indicated that effective compartment volumes, rain intensity, scavenging ratio, run off, and foliar uptake were critical to accurate model prediction. Important implications include that restriction of air emission may be necessary in the future to protect the soil quality objective as the contamination level in soil is predicted to steadily increase at the present emission level and that direct discharge of lead into the water body was insignificant as compared to atmospheric deposition fluxes. The results strongly indicated that atmospheric emission governs the quality of the whole environment. Use of the model developed in this study would provide quantitative and integrated understanding of the cross-media characteristics and assessment of the relationships of the contamination levels among the multi-media environment.
Since the method of generating 3D Spatial Information using aerial photographs was introduced, lots of researches on effective generation methods and applications have been performed. Nadir and oblique imagery are acquired in a same time by Pictometry system, and then 3D positioning is processed as Multi-Looking Camera procedure. In this procedure, the number of GCPs is the main factor which can affect the accuracy of true-orthoimage. In this study, 3D positioning accuracies of true-orthoimages which had been generated using various number of GCPs were estimated. Also, the standard of GCP number and distribution were proposed.

Surveillance has become one of promising application areas of wireless sensor networks which allow for pervasive monitoring of concerned environmental phenomena by facilitating context awareness through sensor fusion. Existing systems that depend on a postmortem context analysis of sensor data on a centralized server expose several shortcomings, including a single point of failure, wasteful energy consumption due to unnecessary data transfer as well as deficiency of scalability. As an opposite direction, this paper proposes an energy-efficient distributed context-aware surveillance in which sensor nodes in the wireless sensor network collaborate with neighbors in a distributed manner to analyze and aware surrounding context. We design and implement multi-modal sensor stations for use as sensor nodes in our wireless sensor network implementing our distributed context awareness. This paper presents an initial experimental performance result of our proposed system. Results show that multi-modal sensor performance of our sensor station, a key enabling factor for distributed context awareness, is comparable to each independent sensor setting. They also show that its initial performance of context-awareness is satisfactory for a set of introductory surveillance scenarios in the current interim stage of our ongoing research.

A survey was conducted on the awareness and demand for the Multi-crew Pilot License (MPL) to prepare the legal institutional basis for the MPL certification system. A total of 288 airmen were asked questions about the awareness and demand of the MPL certification system, and factors affecting the establishment and participation of MPL training programs. The survey results show the understanding of the MPL certification system is significantly lower than that of the current pilot certification system. The demand for the MPL training program was found to be significant, trainees and low-skilled airmen was greater demand. The factor that has the greatest influence on the establishment and participation of the MPL training program was identified as employment connection (airline recruiting). It is expected that the result of this study will be used as basic data necessary for establishing MPL certification system policy.
Biodegradable epoxy (B-epoxy) was prepared from diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A and epoxidized linseed oil. The mechanical properties of B-epoxy composites reinforced with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs/B-epoxy) were examined by employing dynamic mechanical analysis, critical stress intensity factor ($K_{IC}$) tests, and impact strength tests. The electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI-SE) of the composites was evaluated using reflection and absorption methods. Mechanical properties of MWCNTs/B-epoxy were enhanced with an increase in the MWCNT content, whereas they deteriorated when the MWCNT content was >5 parts per hundred resin (phr). This can likely be attributed to the entanglement of MWCNTs with each other in the B-epoxy due to the presence of an excess amount of MWCNTs. The highest EMI-SE obtained was ~16 dB for the MWCNTs/B-epoxy composites with a MWCNT content of 13 phr at 1.4 GHz. The composites (13 phr) exhibited the minimum EMI-SE (90%) when used as shielding materials at 1.4 GHz. The EMI-SE of the MWCNTs/B-epoxy also increased with an increase in the MWCNT content, which is a key factor affecting the EMI-SE.

This paper is an experimental study on the performance according to a capillary tube diameter and length in a domestic small multi refrigerator[kimchi refrigerator]. Pressure drop in a capillary tube is predicted by theoretical analysis and experimental method as the reduction of capillary tube diameter from 0.74 to 0.6 mm. The differences between experimental results and analytical results are mainly caused by friction factor in a capillary tube. Because there are no adequate equations used to calculate pressure drop of capillary tube diameter under 1.0mm. The empirical equations necessary for interpretation of capillary tube were derived from capillary tube test results data using curve fitting method. This study shows that the optimized designs of system, which is capillary tube length and refrigerant charge amount, are 2000mm, 83g at the capillary tube diameter 0.6mm and 3000mm, 73g at the capillary tube diameter 0.74mm. And capillary design tools and system matching techniques necessary for development of the kimchi refrigerator were also developed through this study.

The residents, living in multi-family housing, prefer to have healthy and natural outdoor environmental for better human and environment quality. Thus, providing the high qulity of amenity has become a popular word in site planning and housing developments field. However, the scope and definition of amenity have not yet clearly identified and it becomes and issue in planning and development field. The purpose of this study isto examine and to evaluate the amenity and its implicationi for site planning so that analysis methods such as to interview and survey with residents were carried out. The results of this study are summarized below; The amenity of residential environment means total environmental quality to the residents in a broad sense. Abundent green environment would be very important factor to increase the amenity of residential environment so that the expansion of green field would improve the quality of multifamily housing. The expansion of green environment and biotope was the most important factor to increase the symbiosis system between residents and outdoor environment. And the amenity should be conformed to the certain standand of environmental quality and the high quality of amenity would be increased significantly in the future for residental developments. Thus, it should be accomplished by preparing practical methods in means of discriminative strategy products planning principle.

Due to the rapid development of IT (information technology) and internet, products become smart and able to collect, process and produce information and can think of themselves to provide better service to consumers. However, research on the characteristics of smart product is still sparse. In this paper, we report the systemic development of a scale to measure the perceived product smartness associated with smart product. To develop product smartness scale, this study follows systemic scale development processes of item generation, item reduction, scale validation, reliability and validity test consequently. And, after acquiring a large amount of qualitative interview data asking the definition of smart product, we add a unique process to reduce the initial items using both a text mining method using 'r' s/w and traditional reliability and validity tests including factor analysis. Based on an initial qualitative inquiry and subsequent quantitative survey, an eight-factor scale of product smartness is developed. The eight factors are multi-functionality, human-like touch, ability to cooperate, autonomy, situatedness, network connectivity, integrity, and learning capability consequently. Results from Korean samples support the proposed measures of product smartness in terms of reliability, validity, and dimensionality. Implications and directions for further study are discussed. The developed scale offers important theoretical and pragmatic implications for researchers and practitioners.
