  • The phreatic surface in earth embankment of zone types are investigated in this thesis. Also the shape of phreatic surface are analyzed according to rising velocity and slope angle. In order to verify the validity of experimental results, the results are compared with theoretical result. From this comparison, the shape of phreatic surface in multi-layer is predicted by heat transfer equation.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a new type dryer, which is to proceed mixing and drying of wet-materials at the same time and drying process is carried out in a closed system. In this drying system, thermal contact occurs, when a fluidized zone is created by paddle mechanism. Accordingly, wet-materials is dried in a short time without any damage. Also wet-materials could be dried uniformly to low moisture contents. It is suitable to dry a small quantity of multi-kind materials. And drying process is carried out in a closed system, so as for environmental pollution dust not to be emitted into the atmosphere. Accordingly, it could be used to dry not only food and chemical materials, but also environmental pollution materials.

  • This paper attempts to verify the possibilities of sharing facilities in adjacent elementary and middle school. To achieve these purposes, the educational theories are reviewed and several schools are surveyed. The outcomes from this study are as follows : (1)It is possible and effective to share some facilities in the adjacent elementary and middle schools. To achieve the successful sharing effects, it is necessary for the schools concerned to collaborate heartfully in managing school facilities and in operating school curriculum. (2)This study recommends some school facilities such as the dinning room and kitchen, multi-purpose auditorium, administrative part and nursing room. (3)It is more effective that the sharing facilities be located in the adjacent zone and two playground and main entrance be detached from the other territorial zone.

  • In this study, the prediction of performances and emissions of the gasoline engine of a light passenger car has been accomplished. The method of characteristics including friction, heat transfer, area change and entropy gradients was used to analyze the flow in the intake and exhaust systems. For in-cylinder calculation, the single-zone model was adopted for the periods of the intake, exhaust, compression and the expansion of the burnt gas and the 2-zone expansion model was applied to the period of combustion process. The simulation program was verified by comparison with the experimental values both for the naturally aspirated engine and the turbocharged engine showing good agreements. Using the simulation program, multi-valve system and turbocharging were examined as a means of increasing engine Performances.

  • Damage Cases of variously type are reported that the ground subsidence is caused by the underground cavities at structure and construction works in lime stone or abandoned zone. A underground cavities by direct for zone having an effect on structure have been filled with cement agents. But this measure is urgently needed in materials and work methods, because ground water pollution at water down fillings and flow out, ground disturb at high participle, damage of farms and fishery. The research confirm application of filling method and filling materials of environmentally friendly and economical by Hi-FA new materials have both liquidity and viscosity from case reinforcement in APT site, Gunsan.

  • This paper presents a high accuracy Finite Element approach for delamination modelling in laminated composite structures. This approach uses multi-layered shell element and cohesive zone modelling to handle the mechanical properties and damages characteristics of a laminated composite plate under low velocity impact. Both intralaminar and interlaminar failure modes, which are usually observed in laminated composite materials under impact loading, were addressed. The detail of modelling, energy absorption mechanisms, and comparison of simulation results with experimental test data were discussed in detail. The presented approach was applied for various models and simulation time was found remarkably inexpensive. In addition, the results were found to be in good agreement with the corresponding results of experimental data. Considering simulation time and results accuracy, this approach addresses an efficient technique for delamination modelling, and it could be followed by other researchers for damage analysis of laminated composite material structures subjected to dynamic impact loading.

  • The present study concerns the numerical simulation of a supply airflow control in a variable air volume (VAY) system. A stratified thermal model (multi-zone model) is suggested to predict a local thermal response of an air-conditioned space. The effects of various thermal parameters such as the cooling system capacity, the thermal mass of an air-conditioned space, the time delay of thermal effect, and the building envelope heat transmission are investigated. Further, the influence of control parameters such as the supply air temperature, the PI control factor and the thermostat location on a VAV system is quantitatively delineated. The results obtained show that the previous homogeneous lumped thermal model (single zone model) may overestimate the time taken to the set point temperature. It is also found that there exist the appropriate ranges of the control parameters for the optimal airflow control of the VAV system.

  • Participating in a multi-disciplinary oceanography program in July 1997 in the vicinity of Tokdo, we studied the distributions of bacterial abundance and production along with those of phytoplankton and heterotrophic nanoflagellates. In the euphotic zone, chlorophyll a (chl a) concentrations ranged from 0.14 to 0.52 ${\mu}$g 1$^{-1}$. Bacterial abundance in the euphotic zone (0.12-0.21 ${\times}$ 10$^9$ cells 1$^{-1}$) in the study area was quite lower than that expected from the observed chi a concentration in the marine environment. The low bacterial abundance seemed to be due to active grazing pressure on bacteria. The fraction of primary production utilized by bacteria was also low(8-12%). Interestingly, surface water temperatures were love. at stations near islands compared to an offshore station located between Ulleungdo and Tokdo and the highest values of bacterial production and chi a were found at stations near islands, strongly indicating island mass effects.

  • To perform the rigorous integrity evaluation of RPV, it is necessary to consider metallurgical factors such as microstructure evolution during multi-pass welding process and PWHT. The microstructures of the heat affected zone(HAZ) of SA508 steel were predicted by a combination of simulated thermal analysis and a simple kinetic models for austenite grain growth and austenite-ferrite transformation. Phase equilibrium of SA508 steel were calculated using a Thermo-Calc package. Carbide growth in th HAZ were predicted by a empirical model, taking into account the predicted microstructure evolution.
