  • Deep leaning convolutional neural networks (CNN) have successfully been applied to image super-resolution (SR). Despite their great performances, SR techniques tend to focus on a certain upscale factor when training a particular model. Algorithms for single model multi-scale networks can easily be constructed if images are upscaled prior to input, but sub-pixel convolution upsampling works differently for each scale factor. Recent SR methods employ multi-scale and multi-path learning as a solution. However, this causes unshared parameters and unbalanced parameter distribution across various scale factors. We present a multi-scale single-path upsample module as a solution by exploiting the advantages of sub-pixel convolution and interpolation algorithms. The proposed model employs sub-pixel convolution for the highest scale factor among the learning upscale factors, and then utilize 1-dimension interpolation, compressing the learned features on the channel axis to match the desired output image size. Experiments are performed for the single-path upsample module, and compared to the multi-path upsample module. Based on the experimental results, the proposed algorithm reduces the upsample module's parameters by 24% and presents slightly to better performance compared to the previous algorithm.

  • As 4.0 industry has been developed, research on a self-driving car technology and related parts of an automobile has been highly investigated recently. Particularly, a TAS(Torque Angle Sensor) module on steering wheel system has been considered as a key technology because of its precise angle, torque detection and high speed signal processing. The environmental assessment is generally required on the TAS module to examine high resolution of angle/torque detection. In the case of existing TAS module, angle detection errors has been occurred by back-lash on main and sub gear in addition to complicated structure caused by gears. In this paper, a structure of the TAS module, which minimizes the numbers of components and angle detection errors on the module compared with the existing TAS module, for vehicle steering system based on a Multi-track Encoder has been proposed. Also, angle detection signal processing board, and key technology of the TAS module were fabricated and evaluated. As a result of the experiments, we confirmed an excellent performance of the fabricated signal processing board for angle detection and an applicability of the fabricated angle detection board on the TAS module of vehicles by the environmental assessment an automobile standard.

  • This paper aims at investigating the operating-mode characteristics of two-module Thyristor Controlled Series Compensator (TCSC) as an equivalent of the multi-module TCSC in a simple three-phase power transmission system. The load flow program is developed to analyze the steady-state characteristics of two-module TCSC system and to find the thyristor firing angles for the required real power flow. The stability calculation program is developed with Poincare mapping theory. Simulation studies of the TCSC power transmission system using EMTP are performed to evaluate the transient characteristics of two-module TCSC as a real power flow controller and to rpove the results of the load flow calculation and the stability analysis. In the process of the study, the operating-mode characteristics of two-module TCSC are evaluated and compared to those of single-module TCSC.

  • Dynamic as well as static and geometric design parameters such as inertia, tooth profile, backlash and clearance can be directly considered via multi-body dynamic analysis along with contact analysis. However, it is time consuming to use finite elements for the consideration of the tooth flexibility in the multi-body dynamic analysis of gears. A computationally efficient procedure, so called, Gear Stiffness Module, is suggested to resolve this calculation time issue. The characteristics of gear tooth compliance are discussed and rotational stiffness element concept for the Gear Stiffness Module is presented. Transmission error analyses for a spur gear system are carried out to validate the reliability and efficiency of the module. Compared with the finite element model, the Gear Stiffness Module yields considerably similar results and takes only 3% of calculation time.

  • The first 77 GHz transceiver that applies a heterodyne structure-based linear frequency modulation-frequency shift keying (LFM-FSK) front-end module (FEM) is presented. An LFM-FSK waveform generator is proposed for the transceiver design to avoid ghost target detection in a multi-target environment. This FEM consists of three parts: a frequency synthesizer, a 77 GHz up/down converter, and a baseband block. The purpose of the FEM is to make an appropriate beat frequency, which will be the key to solving problems in the digital signal processor (DSP). This paper mainly focuses on the most challenging tasks, including generating and conveying the correct transmission waveform in the 77 GHz frequency band to the DSP. A synthesizer test confirmed that the developed module for the signal generator of the LFM-FSK can produce an adequate transmission signal. Additionally, a loop back test confirmed that the output frequency of this module works well. This development will contribute to future progress in integrating a radar module for multi-target detection. By using the LFM-FSK waveform method, this radar transceiver is expected to provide multi-target detection, in contrast to the existing method.

  • This study deals with problems of estimating the availability of the multi-module software systems. The result presented in this paper is an extension of our previous paper (2) entitled "A modified Markov model for the estimation of computer software performance". The extension is made by assuming that (1) the software system consists of R statistically independent software modules; (2) no failure occurrence while the process is in transition between software modules.

  • This paper demonstrates the performance of a metal-substrate power module with multiple fabricated chips for a high current electrical application, and evaluates the proposed module using a 1.5-kW sinusoidal brushless direct current (BLDC) motor. Specifically, the power module has a hybrid structure employing a single-layer heat-sink extensible metal board (Al board). A fabricated motor driver IC and trench gate DMOSFET (TDMOSFET) are implemented on the Al board, and the proper heat-sink size was designed under the operating conditions. The fabricated motor driver IC mainly operates as a speed controller under various load conditions, and as a multi-phase gate driver using an N-ch silicon MOSFET high-side drive scheme. A fabricated power TDMOSFET is also included in the fabricated power module for three-phase inverter operation. Using this proposed module, a BLDC motor is operated and evaluated under various pulse load tests, and our module is compared with a commercial MOSFET module in terms of the system efficiency and input current.

  • A multi-effect air gap membrane distillation (ME-AGMD) module for pesticide wastewater treatment is studied with internal heat recovery, sensible heat of brine recovery, number of stages and the use of fresh feed as cooling water in a single module is implemented in this study. A flat sheet polytetrafluroethylene (PTFE) membrane was used in the 4-stage ME-AGMD module. The maximum value of permeate flux could reach $38.62L/m^2h$ at feed -coolant water temperature difference about $52^{\circ}C$. The performance parameter of the module like, specific energy consumption and gain output ratio (GOR) was investigated for the module with and without heat recovery. Also, the module performance was characterized with respect to the separation efficiency of several important water quality parameters. The removal efficiency of the module was found to be >98.8% irrespective water quality parameters. During the experiment the membrane fouling was caused due to the deposition of the salt/crystal on the membrane surface. The membrane fouling was controlled by membrane module washing cycle 9 h and also by acidification of the feed water (pH=4) using 0.1M HCl solution.
