  • It is of great importance to obtain the uniform layer thickness in the multi-layer co-extrusion processes. In the present study, the three-dimensional numerical simulation was carried out using the open source code named OpenFOAM(R) to understand the flow characteristics in the multi-layer die. In this numerical study, Multi-thin-layers were successfully computed depending on the number of repeating units. The generation mechanism for the multi-layer was numerically verified by the flow simulation and visualization in the co-extrusion die using OpenFOAM(R). The results suggested that the multi-layer has a divided and folded mechanism similar to the stretching and folding in the chaotic flow.

  • Rapid flow advancement without void formation is essential in the liquid composite molding (LCM) such as resin transfer molding (RTM) and vacuum assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM). A highly permeable layer in multi-layered preform has an important role in improvement of the flow advancement. In this study, a multi-layered preform which consists of three layers is employed. Radial flow experiment is carried out for the multi-layered preform. A new analytic model for advancement of flow front is proposed and effective permeability is defined. The effective permeability for the multi-layered preform is obtained analytically and compared with experimental results. Compaction test is performed to determine the exact fiber volume traction of each layer in the multi-layered preform. Transverse permeability employed in modeling is measured experimentally unlike the previous studies. Accurate prediction of flow advancement is of great use for saving the processing time and enhancing product properties of the final part.

  • The InAs self-assembled quantun dots (SAQDS) were grown on a GaAs(100) substrate using a molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) technique. The InAs QDs were multi-stacked to have various layer structures of 1, 3, 6, 10, 15 and 20 layers, where the thickness of the GaAs spacer and InAs QD layer were 20 monolayers (MLs) and 2 MLs, respectively. The nanostructured feature was characterized by photoluminescence (PL) and scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM). It was found that the highest PL intensity was obtained from the specimen with 6 stacking layers and the energy of the PL peak was split with increasing the number of stacking layers. The STEM investigation exhibited that the quantum dots in the 6 stacking layer structure were well aligned in vertical columns without any deflect generation, whereas the volcano-like deflects were formed vertically along the growth direction over 10 periods of InAs stacking layers.

  • The underwater multi-agent technology has many potential for the various activities related to ocean development/conservation in the near future. For example, in such fields as water pollution investigation, aquaculture control, or coral reef research, we feel a growing need for a system that realizes underwater continuous monitoring in the wide rang e. In this case, the target monitoring area will be sliced planar hierarchically toward the depth as monitoring layers, and many AUVs arranged on each layer track the given trajectory and gather various environmental information continuously, with communicating each other in the layer or with other layers. To realize those systems we need to develop AUV multi-agent technologies. So we are now building basic systems for basin experiment for the development of AUV multi-agent behavior. We must experience many situations and problems to be solved for the development of its elemental technologies by using real systems as well as our computer simulations. In this paper we introduce our concept of the experiment in the near future and the hardware/software design of our two types of handy AUVs and ultrasound ranging/communication system for that experiment. One AUV is designed using a 17inches-diameter glass sphere with DOS/V and RT-Linux based subsystems, which is intended to use not only in the basin but also in the calm real sea. The other AUV is designed for the basin experiment using a 7inches-diameter acrylic sphere with low-cost embedded system with SH-2 based subsystems. The basin experiment to verify the basic AUV facilities and ultrasound ranging for position detection was carried out.

  • An approach for testing multi-protocol Implementation Under Test (IUT) with a single test suite has been proposed in[1]. this paper proposes an algorithm called Multi-protocol Test Method (MPTM) for automatic test case generation based on that approach. With the MPTM, a multi-protocol IUT consisting of two protocol layers is modeled as two Finite State Machines (FSMs), and the relationships between the transitions of the two FSMs are defined as a set of transition relationships pre-execution and carried-by. The proposed algorithm is implemented and applied to a simplified TCP/IP and B-ISDN Signaling/SSCOP. MPTM is able to test the multi-protocol IUT even though the interfaces between the protocol layers are not exposed. It results in that the proposed MPTM allows the same test coverage as conventional test methods even with fewer numbers of test cases.

  • TiNOx multi-layer thin films on aluminum substrates were prepared by DC reactive magnetron sputtering method. 4 multi-layers of $TiO_2$/TiNOx(LMVF)/TiNOx(HMVF)/Ti/substrate have been prepared with ratio of Ar and ($N_2+O_2$) gas mixture. $TiO_2$ of top layer is anti-reflection layer on double TiNOx(LMVF)/TiNOx(HMVF) layers and Ti metal of infrared reflection layer. In this study, the crystallinity and surface properties of TiNOx thin films were estimated by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM), respectively. The grain size of TiNOx thin films shows to increase with increasing sputtering power. The composition of thin films has been investigated using electron probe microanalysis(EPMA). The optical properties with wavelength spectrum were recorded by UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometry at a range of 200~1,500 nm. The TiNOx multi-layer films show the excellent optical performance beyond 9% of reflectance in those ranges wavelength.

  • Apartment housing is a widely-spread type in Korean housing market. Nevertheless, it has caused serious problems such as traditional community corruption, unsafe structure, defects and litigation from noise. Noise, especially in concrete structure for apartment housing, is hardly controlled in proper to prevent sound transmission between upper and lower families with existing system. In foreign countries, there are floating floor system to enhance the noise control performance in multi-family housing. This study is to examine the impact sound insulation performance of floors according to the different P'yong and Layers by field measurement in highrise building.

  • In order to implement broadband RAM's(Radar Absorbing Materials) made up of multiple dielectricl layers, the design variables such as the dielectrci constaints, the depths and the loss tangents of dielectric are optimized. The wave impedances regarding the reflective wave are found in dielectrics, input impedances and reflection coefficients with multiple dielectric layers are derived from the transmission line circuit theory. Finally, minimum average reflective power and optimum design variables are obtained by applying the numerical technique, called modified Powell method. In case of four dielectric layers with inequality constraints in design variables, a quite favourable and feasible result with the total depth of 1.1 cm, the average reflective power of 0.85% over the bradband frequency range is obtained for a specific example.

  • Here, we describe a dual spin valve structure with distinct switching fields for two pinned layers. A device with this structure has a staircase of three distinct magnetoresistive states. The multiple resistance states are achieved by controlling the exchange coupling between two ferromagnetic pinned layers and two adjacent anti-ferromagnetic pinning layers. The maximum magnetoresistance ratio is 7.9% for the current-perpendicular-to-plane and 7.2% for the current-in-plane geometries, with intermediate magnetoresistance ratios of 3.9% and 3.3%, respectively. The requirements for using this exchange-biased stack as a three-state memory device are also discussed.

  • This study presents experimental and numerical results of prestressed concrete composite beams with different casting and stressing sequence. The beams were tested under three-point bending and it was found that prestressed concrete composite beams could not achieve monolith behavior due to interface slippage between two layers. The initial stress distribution due to different construction sequence has little effect on the maximum load of composite beams. The multi-step FE analyses could simulate different casting and stressing sequence thus correctly capturing the initial stress distribution induced by staged construction. Three contact algorithms were considered for interaction between concrete layers in the FE models namely tie constraint, cohesive contact and surface-to-surface contact. It was found that both cohesive contact and surface-to-surface contact could simulate the interface slip even though each algorithm considers different shear transfer mechanism. The use of surface-to-surface contact for beams with more than 2 layers of concrete is not recommended as it underestimates the maximum load in this study.
