Fast and accurate power bus design (FAPUD) method for multi-layers high-speed digital boards is devised for the power supply network design tool for accurate and precise high speed board. FAPUD is constructed, based on two main algorithms of the PBEC (Path Based Equivalent Circuit) model and the network synthesis method. The PBEC model exploits simple arithmetic expressions of the lumped 1-D circuit model from the electrical parameters of a 2-D power distribution network. The circuit level design based on PBEC is carried with the proposed regional approach. The circuit level design directly calculates and determines the size of on-chip decoupling capacitors, the size and the location of off-chip decoupling capacitors, and the effective inductances of the package power bus. As a design output, a lumped circuit model and a pre-layout of the power bus including a whole decoupling capacitors are obtained after processing FAPUD. In the tuning procedure, the board re-optimization considering simultaneous switching noise (SSN) added by I/O switching can be carried out because the I/O switching effect on a power supply noise can be estimated over the operation frequency range with the lumped circuit model. Furthermore, if a design changes or needs to be tuned, FAPUD can modify design by replacing decoupling capacitors without consuming other design resources. Finally, FAPUD is accurate compared with conventional PEEC-based design tools, and its design time is 10 times faster than that of conventional PEEC-based design tools.

A study on thermal properties for a single-layer metal and a 2-ply metal (clad metals) was investigated for the application of heat sink. For the single-layer metal, a stainless steel (STS) and an aluminum (Al) were selected. Also, a roll bonded clad metal with STS and Al was chosen for the 2-ply metal. The thermal conductivity of the sample was obtained from the thermal diffusivity measured by the light flash analysis (LFA), specific heat and density. Measured thermal property values were compared with the calculated values using the data from the references. For the single-layer metal, measured values for the thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity were smaller than calculated values. Differences between measured and calculated values were about 6% and 18% for the STS and Al samples, respectively. For the clad metals, however, a large difference (55%) was observed. Here, a relatively small thermal conductivity measured by LFA was due to the existence of a interface between STS and Al in the clad metal. Such a interface reduces the moving velocity of free electrons and phonons in the clad metal. For the development of a high performance heat-issipation module with the multi-layer structure, the control of interface properties which determine thermal properties was confirmed to be important.

This paper deals with the performance comparison of adaptive equalization algorithm, MMA and SCA, that is used for the minimization of the distortion and noise effect in the communication channel.. The transmitting signal will be distorted and received due to the nonlinearties of magnitude and phase transfer characteristics of communication channel, the compensation of it by using the self adaptive equalizer. The constant modulus has important metric in the self adaptive equalizer, the MMA uses the 2nd and 4th high order statistics of transmitting signal, the SCA uses the 2nd order statistics of transmitting signal only in order to the calculation of it. We compared to the compensation performance of the MMA and SCA by the computer simulation that are possible to the compensation of the two kinds of transfer characteristics at same times by the relatively simple arithmatic operation. We used to the recovered constellation, residual isi and MSE, SER that are the essential index for the comparison of the adaptive equalizer. The result of performance comparison of algorithms, the MMA which uses the high order statistics of transmitting signal has good performance in the MSE and SER compared to the SCA which is using the low order statistics. But in the recovered costellation and residual isi, the SCA has a good than the MMA.
The present study examined the effect of stimulus contrast and color on detection of a target embedded in streams of letters. In Experiment 1, each trial displayed four rapid serial visual presentation (RSVP) streams of letters (i.e., multi-RSVP), and each stream occupied one of four different locations. Each frame in the RSVP stream had four white distractors at the locations except one frame where a dim grey target was displayed at a location with three white distractors at the remaining locations. In the low-visibility target condition, the target's grey color was slightly darker than the background grey whereas much dimmer in the high-visibility condition. Participants were asked to report presence of a predesignated target as quickly and accurately as possible upon its detection in each trial, and their target detection turned out more accurate and quicker in the high-visibility than the low-visibility condition. In Experiment 2, the same RSVP displays and task as Experiment were used, but the grey target letters in the high-visibility condition were replaced with those of distinct chromatic colors. Participants detected target presence more accurately in the high-visibility condition, but the reaction time did not differ between the visibility conditions. The results indicate that higher stimulus contrast as well as distinct color can improve perception of a target stimulus displayed among visually-demanding background, but also suggest that stimulus contrast may play a more substantial role for such perceptual improvement.
A retinal prosthesis is being developed for the restoration of vision in patients with retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Determining optimal electrical stimulation parameters for the prosthesis is one of the most important elements for the development of a viable retinal prosthesis. Here, we investigated the effects of different charge-balanced biphasic pulses with regard to their effectiveness in evoking retinal ganglion cell (RGC) responses. Retinal degeneration (rd1) mice were used (n=17). From the ex-vivo retinal preparation, retinal patches were placed ganglion cell layer down onto an $8{\times}8$ multielectrode array (MEA) and RGC responses were recorded while applying electrical stimuli. For asymmetric pulses, 1st phase of the pulse is the same with symmetric pulse but the amplitude of 2nd phase of the pulse is less than $10{\mu}A$ and charge balanced condition is satisfied by lengthening the duration of the pulse. For intensities (or duration) modulation, duration (or amplitude) of the pulse was fixed to $500{\mu}s$($30{\mu}A$), changing the intensities (or duration) from 2 to $60{\mu}A$(60 to $1000{\mu}s$). RGCs were classified as response-positive when PSTH showed multiple (3~4) peaks within 400 ms post stimulus and the number of spikes was at least 30% more than that for the immediate pre-stimulus 400 ms period. RGC responses were well modulated both with anodic and cathodic phase-1st biphasic pulses. Cathodic phase-1st pulses produced significantly better modulation of RGC activity than anodic phase-1st pulses regardless of symmetry of the pulse.
The low fertility rate and the unprecedented rapid pace of population aging is a significant factor degrading the national competitiveness and the social security system of Korea. The government has implemented various maternity incentives to alleviate the low birth problem; however, the policy seems in effective to solve the problem of low fertility. This study proposes a conditional birth-order specific fertility rate and investigates the policy effects of fertility transition in Korea to provide a basis for more effective policy development. The use of a conditional birth-order specific fertility rate allows for an effective calculation of the change and the effect in total fertility rate than a birth-order specific fertility rate. We compare the effects of the total fertility rate according to various scenarios that enables us to calculate how the total fertility rate can achieve the current multi-child childbirth support policy of the government and estimate how the total fertility rate can be achieved when focusing on the first or second childbirth support policy. We also summarize the research results on policy development for a practical increase in the childbirth that considers the rapid decrease in women of childbearing age (15-49 years) due to continued low fertility and present the number of childbirths in accordance with the total fertility rate.

The vigor condition of trees is an important indicator for the management of urban forested area. But difficulties in how to assess the tree vigor condition still remain. Previous efforts were limited in the 1) measurement of single indicator rather than using multiple indices, 2) purpose-oriented measurement such as for air-pollution effect or specific pathological symptom, and 3) ordinal-scale evaluations by field crews 4) despite human errors based on his/her experiences or prior knowledge. Therefore, this study attempted to develop a quantitative and objective methodology for assessing tree vigor condition, by measuring multiple modules and building the profile inventory. Furthermore, the possibility and limitations were discussed in terms of schematic frames describing tree vigor condition. The vigor condition of 56 flowering cherry plants in urban park were assessed by in-situ measurements of following eight items; growth of crown(Gc), growth of shoots, individual tree volume(Vol), plant area index, woody area index, leaf area index, leaf chlorophyll content(Lc) and leaf water content(Lw). For validation, these measurements were compared with the ranks of holistic tree vigor condition, which were visually assessed using a 4-point grading scale based on the expert's knowledge. As a result, the measures of each evaluation item successfully highlighted a variety of aspects in tree vigor condition, including the states of both photosynthetic and non-photosynthetic parts. The variation in the results depending on evaluated parts was shown within an individual tree, even though the broad agreement among the results was found. The result of correlation analysis between the tested measurements and 4-point visual assessment, demonstrated that the state of water-stressed foliage of the season (Lw) or the development of plant materials since sapling phase (Vol) could be better viewed from the outer appearance of trees than other symptoms. But only based on the visual assessment, it may be difficult to detect the quality of photosynthesis (Lc) or the recent trend in growth of trees (Gc). To make this methodology simplified for the broad-scale application, the tested eight measurements could be integrated into two components by principal component analysis, which was labelled with 'the amount of plant materials' and 'vigor trend', respectively. In addition, the use of these quantitative and multi-scale indicators underlies the importance of assessing various aspects of tree vigor condition, taking into account the response(s) on different time and spatial scale of pressure(s) shown in each evaluated module. Future study should be advanced for various species at diverse developing stages and environment, and the application to wide areas at a periodic manner.
Based on previous investigations of aerial photographs and topographical surveys, this study focuses on the sedimentologic features of the Daebudo area including sedimentation processes, sedimentary facies and hydrologic conditions of the erosional coast. A total of 137 surface sediments and one core (by hand auger) sediment were obtained to interpret the depositional environment of the erosional coast in the macro-tidal coast. Surface sediments are distributed from sandy gravel (sG) to silt (Z). Textural parameters are characterized not only by coarse, poorly sorted, positive skewed and multi-modal distribution in the supra-tidal flat, but also finer, relatively well-sorted, symmetric distribution in the intertidal flat. According to the C/M diagram, sediment transport modes of study area are characterized by the mixed mode of suspension and bedload in the upper-, middle-tidal flat and by uniform suspension in the lower-tidal flat due to tidal effect. Vertical sediment distribution of the core, collected near shoreline, shows coarsening-upward, poorly sorted pattern by the input of detritus resulting from coastal erosion. Considering the sedimentological features of the study area, it appears to be composed of a coastal zone changed by not only artificial reclamation, but also by natural processes such as strong wave action due to typhoons and storms during high water level and long/short-term sea level rising. As a result, tide-dominated erosional coasts show that the shore is affected by local, temporal and hydrological conditions near high tide level and that the intertidal flat is represented by a general tide-dominated sedimentary environment.
An attenuated Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) clone SA-14-14-2(Vero) was obtained through successive adaptation of a primary cell adapted strain, SA-14-14-2(PDK) to Vero cell, a continuous line of monkey kidney cells. The virus titer reached above the 107 plaque forming unit (pfu) per mL of culture supernatant with 3 passages in Vero cells and was maintained close to this level in the further passages. The optimum temperature for the virus growth was $35^{\circ}C$. Growth pattern of the virus indicated that optimum time for the virus harvest is 4 days post infection and the virus accomplished rapid initial propagation even in medium containing no serum supplement. The roller bottle (RB) system and the spinner flask (SF) system using micro-carrier (Cytodex-1) for the JEV cultivation were explored. When RB, SF, and T-flask culture system were compared, there was no significant difference in virus yield. Furthermore, the results indicated that virus could be harvested multiple times from 3 days to 9 days post infection; neither severe cytopathic effect (CPE) in the infected cells nor the decrease in the titer was observed on duration of 9 days.

The purpose of this study is to explore the effects of a VR(virtual reality)-based biology class on both the cognitive and affective domains by developing and applying a VR-based biology program for 6th-grade elementary school students. For this research, we developed a VR teaching material about 'digestion' reflecting virtual reality characteristics and one hundred five students in an elementary school in an urban area participated in this study and took three VR-based lessons. To examine the cognitive effects of a VR-based biology class, the study subjects were divided into two groups. The experimental group was composed of 50 individuals who participated in VR-based biology lessons, while 55 students of a control group learned through general lessons. We collected data using drawing tasks for measuring students' modeling performance level from these groups and analyzed the cognitive effect of VR-based instruction. We also recorded 21 interviews of students after the intervention, which were transcribed to verify the students' perception of cognitive and affective effects. The key results are as follows: First, we demonstrated the possibility of applying a VR program reflecting VR characteristics (manipulation, multi-sensory, and interaction). Second, we found out that a VR-based biology class significantly enhances higher levels of thinking (spatial, abstract, and reflective thinking). Third, we examined students' perceptions on this program and came to the conclusion that VR characteristics positively affected cognitive and affective domains. This study may be able to contribute to offering guidelines on how to apply VR-programs to future science education effectively.
