In frequency hopping spread spectrum(FHSS) communication systems, exact frequency synchronization is required due to the random hopping of carrier frequencies between transmitter and receiver even under harsh channel conditions. For synchronization of FHSS communications, multi-frequency hopping synchronization(MFHS) method has been used in which a small set of frequencies are repeatedly sent several times for long duration. But this long duration resulted in being easily detected by the unauthorized users as well as long duration of acquisition time. In this paper, motivated by these problems, an adaptive synchronization method(ASM) is proposed. ASM is technics to reduce the synchronization time where the number of synchronization frequencies and repetition numbers is adaptively changed (increased or decreased) according to the channel conditions. The performance analysis showed that the time duration of synchronization was reduced to 0.2sec, and the influence of jamming or interference was decreased to 46% in ASM.

In this paper, we present a noncoherent IR-UWB (Impulse Radio-Ultra Wide Band) ranging system with an AFE (Analog Front End) composed of a simple integrator and an 1-bit ADC (Analog-to-Digital Converter), and define AFE characteristics affecting the ranging performance. This system is realistic and easy to implement, since the integrator simply accumulates signal energies and the simple 1-bit ADC is applied instead of the multi-bit ADCs for coherent IR-UWB systems. On the other hand, its ranging accuracy is largely affected channel environments such as noise, multipath fading and so on, since the noncoherent receiver simply squares and integrates the received signals. However, despite these practical importances, there are few conventional researches on the performance analysis according to AFE characteristics in IR-UWB ranging systems. To this end, we analyze in this paper ranging performance according to AFE characteristics for the noncoherent IR-UWB ranging system in various wireless channel environments, and through these results we also present system parameters to be considered in UWB hardware designs.
In this paper, we have analyzed the MC-DS/CDMA system with input signal synchronized completely through adjustment of the gain in the PLL loop, by using the hybrid SC/MRC-(2/3) technique, which is said to one of the optimal diversity techniques under the multi-path fading environment, assuming that phase error is defined to the phase difference between the received signal from the multi-path and the reference signal in the PLL of the receiver. Also, assuming that the regarded radio channel model for the mobile communication is subject to the Nakagami-m fading channel, we have developed the expressions and performed the simulation under the consideration of various factor, in the MC/DS-CDMA system with the hybrid SC.MRC-(2/3) diversity method, such as the Nakagami fading index(m), $the\;number\;of\;paths\;(L_p),$ the number of hybrid SC.MRC-(2/3) $diversity\;branches\;(L,\;L_c),$ the number of users (K), the number of subcarriers (U), and the gain in the PLL loop. As a result of the simulation, it has been confirmed that the performance improvement of the system can be achieved by adjusting properly the PLL loop in order for the MC/DS-CDMA system with the hybrid SC/MRC-(2/3) diversity method to receive a fully synchronized signal. And the value of the gain in the PLL loop should exceed 7dB in order for the system to receive the signal with prefect synchronization, even though there might be a slight difference according to the values of the fading index and the spread processing gain of the subcarrier.
As PRC linear interpolation algorithm is applied after analysed and verified in this paper, the unknown location of a user can be identified by using PRC information of multi-DGPS reference station. The PRC information of each GPS satellite is not varying rapidly, which makes it possible to assume that PRC information of each GPS satellite varies linearly. So, the PRC regeneration algorithm with linear interpolation can be applied to improve the accuracy of finding a user's location by using the various PRC information obtained from multi-DGPS reference station. The desirable PRC is made by the linear combination with the known position of multi-DGPS reference station and PRC values of a satellite using signals from multi-DGPS reference station. The RTK-GPS result was used as the reference. To test the performance of the linearly interpolated PRC regeneration algorithm, multi-channel DGPS beacon receiver was built to get a user's position more exactly by using PRC data of maritime DGPS reference station in RTCM format. At the end of this paper, the result of the quantitative analysis of the developed navigation algorithm performance is presented.

In this paper, we propose the structure of a dual polarized system for a wireless communication. The proposed dual polarized antenna is formed by one vertical antenna and two horizontal antennas that are orthogonal to each other. Vertical and horizontal polarized antennas transmit different signals, but two orthogonal horizontal polarized antennas transmit the same data signals. So, the signals of the proposed dual polarized system construct two dual-polarization planes. And, only one dual-polarization plane with a large signal power is selected at the side of a receiver. The simulation results show that the proposed dual polarized system could obtain a higher capacity compared to an ordinary $2{\times}2$ MIMO (Multi-input Multi-output) system.

Most multimedia source coders exhibit unequal bit error sensitivity. Efficient transmission system design should therefore incorporate the use of matching unequal error protection (UEP). In this paper, we present and evaluate a flexible space-time coding system with unequal error protection. Multiple transmit and receive antennas and bit-interleaved coded modulation techniques are used combined with rate compatible punctured convolutional codes. A near optimum iterative receiver is employed with a multiple-in multiple-out inverse mapper and a MAP decoder as component decoders. We illustrate how the UEP system gain can be achieved either as a power or bandwidth gain compared to the equal error protection system (EEP) for the identical source and equal overall quality for both the UEP and EEP systems. An example with two/three transmit and two receive antennas using BPSK modulation is given for the block fading channel.
The worldwide transition from analog to digital broadcasting has now been completed and the need to study next generation standards for Ultra High Definition TV (UHDTV) broadcasting, and broadcasting & communication convergence systems is rapidly growing. In particular, high resolution mobile broadcasting services are needed to satisfy recent consumers. Therefore, the development of highly efficient convergence broadcasting systems that provide fixed/mobile broadcasting through a single channel is needed. In this paper, a service scenario and requirements for providing 4K UHD & HD convergence broadcasting services through a terrestrial single channel are analyzed by employing the latest transmission and A/V codec technologies. Optimized transmission parameters for 6 MHz & 8 MHz terrestrial bandwidths are drawn, and receiving performances are measured under Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) and time-varying multipath channels. From the results, in a 6 MHz bandwidth, the reliable receiving of HD layer data can be achieved when the receiver velocity is maximum 140 Km/h and is not achieved when the velocity is over 140 Km/h due to the limit of bandwidth. When the bandwidth is extended to 8 MHz, the reliable receiving of both 4K UHD and HD layer data is achieved under a very fast fading multipath channel.

In this paper, we newly propose the binary CA-CDMA(constant amplitude CDMA) system using pre-coding method to solve the high PAPR problem caused by multi-user signal transmission in the CDMA system. 4-user CA-CDMA, the basis of proposed binary CA-CDMA system, makes binary output signal for 4 input users. It produces the output of binary(${\pm}$2) amplitude by using a parity signal resulting from the XOR operation of 4 users data. Another sub-channel or more bandwidth is not necessary because it is transmitted together with user data and can be easily recovered in the receiver. The extension of the number of users can be possible by the simple repetition of the basic binary 4-user CA-CDMA. For example, binary 16-user CA-CDMA is made easily by allocating the four 4-user CA-CDMA systems in parallel and leading the four outputs to the fifth 4-user CA-CDMA system as input, because the output signal of each 4-user CA-CDMA is also binary. By the same extension procedure, binary 64 and 256-user CA-CDMA systems can be made with the constant amplitude. As a result, the code rate of this proposed CA-CDMA system is just 1 and binary CA-CDMA does not change the transmission rate with the constant output signal(PAPR = 0 ㏈). Therefore, the power efficiency of the HPA can be maximized without the nonlinear distortion. From the simulation results, it is verified that the conventional CDMA system has multi-level output signal, but the proposed binary CA-CDMA system always produces binary output. And it is also found that the BER of conventional CDMA system is increased by nonlinear HPA, but the BER of proposed binary CA-CDMA system is not changed.
This paper reports on our development of a dual-mode transceiver for a CMOS high-rate Bluetooth system-onchip solution. The transceiver includes most of the radio building blocks such as an active complex filter, a Gaussian frequency shift keying (GFSK) demodulator, a variable gain amplifier (VGA), a dc offset cancellation circuit, a quadrature local oscillator (LO) generator, and an RF front-end. It is designed for both the normal-rate Bluetooth with an instantaneous bit rate of 1 Mb/s and the high-rate Bluetooth of up to 12 Mb/s. The receiver employs a dualconversion combined with a baseband dual-path architecture for resolving many problems such as flicker noise, dc offset, and power consumption of the dual-mode system. The transceiver requires none of the external image-rejection and intermediate frequency (IF) channel filters by using an LO of 1.6 GHz and the fifth order onchip filters. The chip is fabricated on a $6.5-mm^{2}$ die using a standard $0.25-{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. Experimental results show an in-band image-rejection ratio of 40 dB, an IIP3 of -5 dBm, and a sensitivity of -77 dBm for the Bluetooth mode when the losses from the external components are compensated. It consumes 42 mA in receive ${\pi}/4-diffrential$ quadrature phase-shift keying $({\pi}/4-DQPSK)$ mode of 8 Mb/s, 35 mA in receive GFSK mode of 1 Mb/s, and 32 mA in transmit mode from a 2.5-V supply. These results indicate that the architecture and circuits are adaptable to the implementation of a low-cost, multi-mode, high-speed wireless personal area network.

This paper deals with the performance comparison of adaptive equalization algorithm, CMA and MMA, that is used for the minimization of the distortion and noise effect in the communication channel at receiver.. We confirmed the application possibilities of the point to point or point to multipoint digital transmission technologies by analyzing the performance of MMA which is changing the error function of CMA that is the possible algorithm of fast equalization by relatively simple arithmatic computation compared to the other method. In CMA algorithm, we need the PLL for the amplitude compensation only and not possible to phase compensation inherently. But in MMA algorithm, we confired that the amplitude and phase of received signal can be compensated by computer simulation. For the comparison of algorithm, we used the essential performance index, convergence characteristics and residual isi. The result of performance comparison of algorithms, the MMA has good in convergence characteristic and the CMA has good in residual isi that is used for the amplitude compensation.
