An immune system has powerful abilities such as memory, recognition and learning how to respond to invading antigens, and has been applied to many engineering algorithms in recent year. In this pap er, the combined optimization algorithm (Immune- Genetic Algorithm: IGA) is proposed for multi-optimization problems by introducing the capability of the immune system that controls the proliferation of clones to the genetic algorithm. The optimizing ability of the proposed combined algorithm is identified by comparing the result of optimization with simple genetic algorithm for two dimensional multi-peak function which have many local optimums. Also the new combined algorithm is applied to minimize the total weight of the shaft and the transmitted forces at the bearings. The inner diameter oil the shaft and the bearing stiffness are chosen as the design variables. The dynamic characteristics are determined by applying the generalized FEM. The results show that the combined algorithm and reduce both the weight of the shaft and the transmitted forces at the bearing with dynamic conatriants.
A flexible rotor was smoothly passed through its bending critical speed, which is supported by AFB. Then, maximum magnitude of the rotor vibration at the middle point was 25${\mu}$m. The test rig was largely consisted of air turbine, multi-leaf type air foil bearing and flexible rotor and its bending critical speed was 32,600 rpm. And the balancing system and method for field balancing of the flexible rotor were developd successfully.
Bearing design of turbo type geared centrifugal air compressor for low vibration level has been studied. The Transfer Matrix Method was used in this paper to analyze the air-compressor consisting of impellers, multi-stage geared rotors, and oil-film hearings. We have to consider this air-compressor as multi-geared rotating system, because characteristics of rotor-bearing system are different from conventional characteristics of non-rotating system. From the view point of Rotordynamics, the stiffness and damping coefficient of oil-film bearing in case of compressor system are more sensitive than other design parameters such as shaft length, shaft diameter and the weight of impellers, etc. Therefore, the stiffness and damping coefficients on each bearing were considered as design parameters. As the result of this study, turbo type air compressor with low vibration level can be achieved.
This research presents an analytical model to characterize the ball bearing vibration due to the waviness in a rigid rotor supported by multi-row ball bearings considering centrifugal force and gyroscopic moment of ball. The effects of centrifugal force and gyroscopic moment are introduced to the kinematic constraints and force equilibrium equations. The waviness of ball and races is modeled by the superposition of sinusoidal function and it is introduced to position vectors of race curvature center to use the Hertzian contact theory in order to calculate the elastic deflection and nonlinear contact force resulting from the waviness while the rotor has translational and angular motion. They can be determined by solving the nonlinear equations of motion with five degrees of freedom by using the Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg algorithm. The accuracy of this research is validated by comparing with the results of the prior researches. It characterizes the vibration frequencies resulting from the various kinds of waviness in rolling elements, the harmonic frequencies resulting from the nonlinear load-deflection characteristics of ball bearing resulting from the waviness interaction.
In this paper, the finite element modeling of the RK4 rotor kit system (RK4) and then frequency analysis and transient analysis, and was compared with the actual experimental results. RK4 manufactured by General Electric for the purpose of education and research. It is composed of two shaft, Two shaft is connected using a flexible coupling, one disk is mounted. The analytical model is modeled by using the ANSYS finite element analysis program commercially available. Based on impact hammer test results, material properties and the stiffness of the bearing and coupling was tuned. Considering the operating conditions and the vibration response of the analytical model were compared with experimental results.
The present study focuses on the effect of staggered integration factor (SIF) on Morton effect simulation results. The Morton effect is a synchronous rotordynamic instability problem caused by the temperature differential across the journal in fluid film bearings. Convection and conduction of heat in the thin film displaces the hot spot, which is the hottest circumferential position in the thin film, from -20 to 40 degrees ahead of the high spot, where the minimum film clearance is experienced. The temperature differential across the journal causes a bending moment and the corresponding thermal bow in the rotating frame acts like a distributed synchronous excitation in the fixed frame. This thermal bow may cause increased vibrations and continued growth of the synchronous orbit into a limit cycle. The SIF is developed assuming that the response of the rotor-lubricant-bearing dynamic system is much quicker than that of the bearing-journal thermal system, and it is defined as the ratio between the simulation time of the thermal system and the rotor-spinning period. The use of the SIF is unavoidable for efficient computing. The value of the SIF is chosen empirically by the software users as a value between 100 and 400. However, the effect of the SIF on Morton effect simulation results has not been investigated. This research produces simulation results with different values of SIF.
The position sensors used in a magnetic bearing system are desirable to provide some degree of fault-tolerance as the rotor position is necessary for the feedback control to overcome the open-loop instability. In this paper, we propose an inductive position sensor that can cope with a partial fault in the sensor. The sensor has multiple poles which can be combined to sense the in-plane motion of the rotor. When a high-frequency voltage signal drives each pole of the sensor, the resulting current in the sensor coil contains information regarding the rotor position. The signal processing circuit of the sensor extracts this position information. In this paper, we used the magnetic circuit model of the sensor that shows the analytical relationship between the sensor output and the rotor motion. The multi-polar structure of the sensor makes it possible to introduce redundancy which can be exploited for fault-tolerant operation. The proposed sensor is applied to a magnetically levitated turbo-molecular vacuum pump. Experimental results validate the fault-tolerance algorithm.
This paper represents that an enhanced genetic algorithm (EGA) is applied to optimal design of a squeeze film damper (SFD) to minimize the maximum transmitted load between the bearing and foundation in the operational speed range. A general genetic algorithm (GA) is well known as a useful global optimization technique for complex and nonlinear optimization problems. The EGA consists of the GA to optimize multi-modal functions and the simplex method to search intensively the candidate solutions by the GA for optimal solutions. The performance of the EGA with a benchmark function is compared to them by the IGA (Immune-Genetic Algorithm) and SQP (Sequential Quadratic Programming). The radius, length and radial clearance of the SFD are defined as the design parameters. The objective function is the minimization of a maximum transmitted load of a flexible rotor system with the nonlinear SFDs in the operating speed range. The effectiveness of the EGA for the optimal design of the SFD is discussed from a numerical example.
Energy-efficient contrarotating propeller systems have been recently reviewed as one of alternative means in marine car-carrier applications. Contrarotating rotors preclude the usage of conventional plain journal bearings due to the lack of load carrying capacity. A new multi-recess hydrostatic contrarotating journal beating test facility has been designed and installed to test the static load carrying capacity. Measurements of flow rates and orbits have been investigated by testings on a overhung-type contrarotating rotor system which is supported by a hydrostatic journal bearing. Numerical results of static equilibria were compared with test results. Various contrarotating speed combinations, and supply pressure conditions were selected. The numerical predictions of orbit centers and flow rates are generally accurate.
We develop a method to analyze dynamic behavior off multi-stage gear train system. The example system consists of three shafts supported by ball bearings at the ends of them and two pairs of spur gear set. For exact analysis, the meshing tooth pair of gear set is modeled as spring and damper having time-dependent meshing stiffness and damping. The bearing is modeled as spring. The result of this analysis is compared to that of other model having mean mesh stiffness. The effect of the excitation force by the unbalance off rotor off motor is also analyzed. Finally, the change ova natural frequency of the whole system due to the change of an angle between three shafts is compared in each case, and from this analysis, the avoiding angle for design is advised.
