  • The purpose of this study was to develop the curtain-wall structure design evaluation manual that can easily examine the curtain-wall structural members (Mullion and Transom) stability from the position of the construction managers. Through analyzing the structural design reports in the previous studies and interview with industry experts, the curtain-wall structural member design process was elicited. The manual, which consists of Microsoft Excel-based work sheet and its manual, was applied to a real curtain-wall design project to make sure its usability. A workshop with three curtain-wall experts and three construction managers was conducted to identify pros and cons of the manual, thereby enhancing its applicability in the future.

  • Recently, to ensure the high openness and prospect right of the building, curtain wall system is mainly applied to the high-rise buildings at domestic and overseas. As a result, the use of Structural Sealant is increasing. Structural Glazing Sealant is applied with the glass and AL-FRAME (Mullion) that the strong structural strength is required to hold. However, the structural sealant at the construction site in a variety of external influences, such as wind load, thermal load, uv, chemical pollutants etc, in case of storing condition, if structural sealant stored in high temperature for a long period time, it will not perform well compared with initial performance. In this study, the influence of the performance of one-component structural sealant evaluated for proper storage conditions at the construction site and how to use the non-intended.

  • Most of buildings' exterior walls are curtain wall systems and in the respect, the cleaning robot system is the main research item for cleaning and maintenance of them. We have structurely analysed the cases to review on the structural stability of the mullion members where the cleaning robot is attached. The result is showing that the largest stress is formed by the basic wind speed, which is specified in Korean Building Code-Structural.

  • In this study is to improve insulation performance that are the most weak insulation part of fastening unit of the curtain wall. It was produced that thought out to minimize mullion and connecting part, and evaluated performance that make a layer of insulation in the middle by using vibration-proof rubber or silicon. Vibration-proof rubber insulation is 2.6℃~4.0℃ higher and silicon insulation is 2.4℃ higher than non-insulation. Therefore the insulating layer of fastening unit is necessary.

  • In this study, batcher plant composition test and mock-up test were carried out to conduct comparison and analysis on flow behavior and strength properties of concrete at early age. As a result, it was found that slump and amount of air in batcher plant composition test reached the target range. As for compressive strength, composition using HESPC showed the most excellent strength development. In mock-up test which was carried out to find out the strength properties, two methods with specimen and core test body both revealed HESPC as the most excellent composition. However, strength estimation with ultrasonic survey presented less reliable data. As a result of the previously conducted indoor composition test and the mock-up test in this study, target performance of concrete at early age was 4day/cycle. It was found that the optimum conditions that meet the required strength, 5MPa/18hr and 14MPa/36hr in mullion and transom are; curing temperature above 15℃, W/B 45%, unit-water 165kg/㎥ and CHC cement.

  • This paper is a study of Le Corbusier's trace regulateur of the 1920s, particularly its role in the design of the Villas La Roche-Jeanneret and Stein-de Monzie. It proceeds on the basis of the following three themes: first, the relation between the regulating line and the dom-ino frame; second, its status as a proportional device based not on a module system but one that defines relations; third, its function as an essential practical device in the design process. In the Villa La Roche-Jeanneret, the embedded horizontal planes of the dom-ino frame were constant, but the vortical lines of the columns were altered according to the changes in plan. Initially, a left-hand bay window formed a symmetry with the right-hand bay window, the only constant in the design process. With subsequent changes, mullion sections of the horizontal window and roof elements came to provide the reference points for the regulating line. Eventually, a regulating line different from the one that controlled the bay window and the elongated volume came to control the entrance hall of Villa La Roche, resulting in three different kinds of regulating lines in the final version. In contrast to the Villa La Roche-Jeanneret, a singular and consistent regulation line was anticipated in the earliest design stages of the Villa Stein-de Monzie. The repetition of its A:B grid and the standard $2.5m{\times}1.0m$ sliding window determined the proportions of both its plan and elevation, and thus the regulating line became 'automatic,' losing its viability as a practical tool. Though the regulating titles of the La Roche-Jeanneret look as if they were an afterthought, drawn after the design was complete, they were most active, requiring tenacity and discipline in their application. On the other hand, the seemingly 'redundant' regulating line of the Villa Stein-de Monzie gains its raison d'etre from the dom-ino frame. Its cantilevers and uninterrupted horizontal window could be used in decisive fashion because of the guarantee that the correct proportion would always be maintained. Thus we discover that Le Corbusier's discipline of the 1920s had a certain spectrum of flexibility. His 'parti' ranged from the extremely loose and malleable grid of the Villa La Roche-Jeanneret to the fixed grid of the Villa Stein-de Monzie. In different ways, these projects retain the tension between the dom-ino frame and the regulating line. For Le Corbusier, as much as the grid was an object with fixed attributes, it was also an active medium manipulated by the will of the architect.

  • This study had the goal of analyzing the economic feasibility and constructability of a fire resistant curtain wall system using Light-weight Inorganic Composite Foam Board(LI-CFB). LI-CFBs, new materials with excellent fire resistance are being developed for use as the back panel of curtain wall and their fire resistance has already been analyzed through actual tests in earlier studies. In this study, a mock-up test involving the installation of the fire resistant curtain wall system on an actual building was conducted, and the system was compared with a common curtain wall system. This system is applied in the same way as a common curtain wall system. But the cutting LI-CFBs, which are brought from a factory, are used in the system and attached on the frame (mullion and transom). Even though the system requires more working time than the existing system, the LI-CFBs back panels are easy to cut and do not produce dust. Also, the panels are able to be assured the quality by checking damaged parts easily. Besides having a high level of fire resistance, the system's economic feasibility and constructability meets or exceeds those of the existing system.
