고속도로 갓길 외측 성토상단의 잡초침입 억제를 위한 시험 연구 (The Study on Test for Control of Weeds Invasion in Constructed on Upper Embankment in the Shoulder of a Expressway)

  • From January 2013 to October 2015, weed invasion control techniques was tested in the test road of Jungbunaeryuk expressway so as to collect preliminary data for the management methods of the upper exterior banking of expressway shoulders. Then, monitoring was conducted and its results are as follows. Mat (sheet), solidifying agent, and mulching (wood chips) were applied for the test and their initial effects of preventing weed invasion were all excellent. It was found that the homogeneity of the wood chip mulching method needs to improve. In the mat method and the mulching method were found to have the most excellent economic feasibility and aesthetics, respectively. The covering degree was found to be the highest at 80% in the control site, followed by the wood chip site at 20% and the solidifying agent site and the non-woven fabric site at 5% each. As for species diversity, the control had the largest variety of species. Two years after the construction, many different species of plants invaded and were growing. Plants including weed didn't tend to invade the slopes applied with non-woven fabric. In addition, weed didn't invade the solidifying agent site and the aesthetics of the upper exterior banking of expressway shoulders was found to be excellent. The wood chip site was found to require consistent management for preventing weed invasion. The mat (sheet) site, the solidifying agent site, and the wood chip mulching site were found to have excellent weed prevention effects. As time passed, the mat (sheet) site and the solidifying agent site showed better weed prevention effects. However, they need consistent monitoring for further application.

  • Perforated vinyl mulching technique was performed on Pleurotus sajor-caju beds to assess fruitbody formation. Individual fruitbody of P. sajor-caju was transformed into bunch type on vinyl mulching bed. It was effective to grow the mushroom without waterlogging and abortion of small pins on the beds as well as hygienical bed management. A bunch showed 79 fruitbodies and 225 g of weight. Available site for fruiting was reduced up to 20% in comparison of 100% for conventional bed. The color of fruitbody turned on brownish white from treated vinyl mulching bed.

부직포 멀칭 방식에 따른 종가시나무 묘목의 생장과 제초에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Polypropylene Mulching Method on Growth of Quercus glauca Thunb. Seedling and Weed Treatments)

  • 최근 이상기후 등 기후변화에 적응하고 관상가치가 높은 상록활엽수의 활용을 높이기 위한 재배 및 관리 기술이 요구되고 있다. 종가시나무 (Quercus glauca Thunb.) 1-2묘를 공시수종으로 하여 10개월간 경남 진주시 금산면에 위치한 산림바이오소재연구소 월아 시험림에서 1m×22.5m 크기의 묘상을 만들어 부직포 멀칭 소재 60g/㎡, 80g/㎡ 두 종류와 멀칭 방식 겹치기, 구멍뚫기 두 방식 그리고 멀칭을 하지 않은 대조구 총 5개 처리구로 각각 92본씩 시험지를 조성하였다. 부직포 멀칭 소재 60g/㎡ 겹치기 방식은 대조구와 비교 시 묘고는 약 1.9배 근원경은 약 1.1배 더 높은 값을 보였으며, 처리 간의 통계적 유의성은 없었다. 건전한 묘목은 H/D ratio 7.0 이하, T/R ratio 3.0 이하, 부위별 물질 생산량 값이 높은 조건으로 분석 결과, 이를 만족하는 것으로 조사되었다. 멀칭 처리에 따른 묘목의 품질을 평가할 수 있는 LWR, SWR, RWR 값을 대조구와 비교해 보면, 잎과 줄기를 포함하는 지상부의 생장은 증진되었지만, 뿌리를 포함하는 지하부의 생장은 대조구 값이 높은 경향을 보였다. 이를 바탕으로 묘목의 종합적인 품질을 평가할 수 있는 SQI 값은 대조구와 멀칭 처리간의 유의적인 차이가 있는 것으로 나타나, 멀칭 처리에 따른 생육증진 효과가 있음을 확인하였다. 엽록소 함량 분석에서는 대조구와 유의적인 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났는데, 대조구의 잡초 발생이 환경스트레스로 작용하여 엽록소 함량의 저하를 야기한 것으로 판단된다. 부직포 멀칭 소재 80g/㎡ 겹치기 방식은 잡초 발생량이 대조구 대비 약 4배 더 적게 발생하며, 식재지 조성인력과 제초작업에 소요되는 총 작업인력은 3.3인/100㎡/1일이 소요되는 것으로 조사되었다. 멀칭처리는 묘목의 생장과 품질 그리고 제초에 유의적인 차이가 있는 것으로 나타나 생육증진 효과가 있으며, 대규모 식재지를 포함한 일반수목 생산지에서의 제초작업에 투입되는 인력수급의 경제적인 부담을 줄일 수 있는 대안으로 판단된다.

팥배나무 이식식재 방법에 따른 가로수목의 탄소저장 연구 (A Study on Carbon Dioxide Absorption of Street Tree according to Transplantation Planting Methods for Sorbus alnifolia)

  • Enlargement of street tree planting area is the proper and effective solution to reduce carbon dioxide. This solution bases on the ability of carbon storage and uptake by tree metabolism. However, the circumstance of road side has fatal disadvantages in tree metabolism such as growth and maturity because cutting and filling of roadsides cause unnatural soil composition. In this point, early rootage of street tree is the main factor of reducing carbon dioxide. This study aimed to find a appropriate transplantation planting method for sound and rapid rootage of street tree. For the study, Korean Mountain Ash(Sorbus alnifolia) were used for experimental groups. The groups were categorized by three groups such as trees produced on container with mulching treatment, trees produced in outdoor with mulching treatment, trees produced on container with weeding treatment. Each group consisted 10 trees with same size and transplanted in experimental site. Five months after transplanting, each group was estimated the biomass and carbon storage through a direct harvesting method. According to results of the study, the carbon storage of trees produced on container with mulching treatment is 42% more than trees produced in outdoor with mulching treatment. And the carbon storage of trees produced on container with mulching treatment is 19.5% more than trees produced on container with weeding treatment. These results may imply that transplantation of container produced tree with mulching treatment is the most rapid rootage among other groups. The weeding treatment is more effective than mulching treatment for rapid rootage of street trees.

지리산 국립공원 아고산대 황폐나지의 식생복원공법 개발 (Rehabilitation Measures for Disturbed Subalpine Meadows in Chirisan National Park, Republic of Korea)

  • 지리산국립공원 노고단 지역에 분포하는 아고산대 초원지역은 급증한 이용객들에 의해 훼손되고 있다. 교란된 아고산대 초원지역의 복원공법을 개발하기 위한 기초연구로서, 이 지역에 시비처리, 식생도입처리, 멀칭처리를 각각 2수준으로 한 2*2*2 요인 실험을 표토가 유실된 10% 경사지와 표토가 잔존하는 40% 경사지에 실시하였다. 그 결과, 부지조건에 관계없이 야생풀포기심기가 파종보다 식생활착에 있어 더 효율적이었고 시비처리는 출현개체수와 피복도 증가에 통계적 유의성을 나타냈다. 반면 식생활착에 미치는 멀칭재료간 효과는 유의성이 없었다. 한편 척박지의 선구수종으로 추정되는 개쑥부쟁이는 직접파종에도 높은 활착율을 보였다.

Effects of Transplanting Time and Vinyl-film Mulching Treatment on the Biomass Production of Artemisia annua L. in the Saemangeum Reclaimed Tidal Lands in Korea

  • The experiment was carried out to find the effects of transplanting time and vinyl-film mulching treatment on the growth of artemisia by randomized block design with three replications. The experiment site ($100{\times}130$ m) was temporally established in the south-eastern part of Saemangeum reclaimed tidal land (near Gwanghwal myun, Gimjae-gun, Jellabukdo). Artemisia plants had been partly suffered from salt injury, because soil salinities in some area during growing period had been measured higher than 10 dS $m^{-1}$. Growth of plant height and survival ratio of transplanted plants had been significantly correlated with soil salinity and then the regression equations between plant height (y) and soil EC (x) and between survival ratio (y) and soil EC (x) were expressed as y=-16.59ln(x)+43.852 and $y=0.6453x^2-17.566x+103.99$, respectively. It was concluded that early transplanting and vinyl mulching was more beneficial for biomass production of artemisia, because biomass was 6.41 times more in the early transplanting than in the late transplanting, and 2.63 times more in the vinyl-film mulching than in the no mulching treatment.

수변구역 조성 녹지의 모니터링을 통한 식재방안 모색 - 가평군 시공지를 대상으로 - (Exploring Planting Strategies through Monitoring of a Greenspace Established in the Riparian Zone - The Case of an Implementation Site in Gapyeong County -)

  • The growth conditions of planted trees, invasion of nuisance herbaceous species, competition between species, and effects of erosion control were monitored over five years in a riparian greenspace in Gapyeong County that was established through multilayered and grouped ecological planting. Of 156 trees planted in the upper and middle layers, 5.8% died. This tree death was attributed to poor drainage or aeration in the rooting zone from the clay-added root ball and too deep planting as well as a small-sized root ball and scanty fine roots. Of all the trees, 21.6% grew poorly due to transplant stress in the first year after planting, but they started to grow vigorously in the third year. This good growth was largely associated with soil improvement before planting, selection of appropriate tree species based on growth ground, and control of dryness and invasive climbing plants through surface mulching and multilayered/grouped planting. Mixed planting of fast-growing species as temporary trees was desirable for accelerating planting effect and increasing planting density. Thinning of fast-growing trees was required in the fifth year after planting to avoid considerable competition with target species. To reduce the invasion of herbaceous and climbing plants that oppress normal growth of planted trees, higher density planting of trees (crown opening of about 15%), woodchip mulching to a 10-cm depth, and edge planting 2 m wide were more effective than lower density planting (crown opening of 70%), no surface mulching, and no edge planting, respectively. This reduction effect was especially great during the first three years after planting. Nuisance herbaceous plants rarely invaded higher density planting with woodchip mulching over the five years. Higher density planting or woodchip mulching also showed much greater erosion control through rainfall interception and buffering than lower density planting with no mulching did. Based on these results, desirable planting and management strategies are suggested to improve the functions of riparian greenspaces.

경사밭 고랑멀칭 방법에 따른 비점오염 저감효과 평가 (Evaluation of Furrow Mulching Methods for Controlling Non-Point Source Pollution Load from a Sloped Upland)

  • South Korea's agricultural nitrogen balance and phosphorus balance rank first and second, respectively, among OECD countries, and proper nutrient management is required to preserve the water quality of rivers and lakes. This study evaluates the effects of furrow mulching on the reduction of non-point source pollution (NPS) load from a sloped upland. The study site was Wanju-gun, Jeollabuk-do, and the survey period was from 2018 to 2019. The slope of the testbed was 13%, and the soil type was sandy loam. The cropping system consisted of maize-autumn Chinese cabbage rotation. The testbed was composed of bare soil (bare), control (Cont.), furrow vegetation mulching (FVM), and furrow nonwoven fabric mulching (FFM) plots. Runoff was collected for each rainfall event with a 1/100 sampler, and the NPS load was calculated by measuring the concentrations of SS, T-N, and T-P. The NPS load was then analyzed for the entire monitoring and crop cultivation periods. During the monitoring period, the effect of reducing the NPS load was 1.5%~44.5% for FVM and 13.1%~55.2% for FFM. During the crop cultivation period, it was 1.2%~80.5% for FVM and 27.0%~65.1% for FFM, indicating that FFM was more effective than FVM. As the NPS load was fairly high during the crop conversion period, an appropriate management method needs to be implemented during this period.

가로수의 이식방법에 따른 수목 활착 평가 - 재배방법별 팥배나무의 광화학적 반응 해석 - (Evaluation of Street Tree Rootage by Transplanting Methods - Photochemical Response Analysis of Different Cultivation for Sorbus alnifolia -)

  • 본 연구는 가로 수목의 조기 활착으로 도로로부터 발생하는 탄소를 효과적으로 저감할 수 있는 방안을 모색하고자 컨테이너(용기) 수목의 이식 효율성을 검증하였다. 컨테이너에서 재배된 수목은 이식 활착성을 높이고, 부적기 이식 제한을 극복할 수 있어 도로와 같은 변형된 토양환경에 적합하다. 가로수로서 가치가 높은 팥배나무를 대상으로 컨테이너에서 재배된 수목과 노지에서 재배된 수목을 각기 멀칭 및 제초처리하여 수목의 건전도를 비교하였다. 연구의 방법으로서 엽록소 형광 반응 분석을 이용한 팥배나무의 식재 방법별 광화학 반응 해석을 통해 건전성 평가하였다. 팥배나무의 식재 방법은 노지 멀칭, 컨테이너 제초 및 컨테이너 멀칭 재배로 구분하여 재배하였다. 연구의 결과로서 노지 멀칭 팥배나무에서 최대 형광량(P)이 가장 낮았으며, O-J 전이 과정 중 형광량이 증가하며, 광계 II 전자전달 효율이 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 광계 II에서 광계 I까지의 전자전달 에너지 플럭스(RE1o/RC, RE1o/CS) 또한, 노지 멀칭 재배에서 20% 이상 감소하였다. 이와 같은 연구 결과는 도로와 같이 성토 및 절토로 인하여 수목 생장 여건이 불리한 상황에서 수목의 이식 후 조기 활착을 검증한 결과 컨테이너에서 재배된 수목이 노지에서 재배된 수목보다 활착이 빠르고, 수목 건전도가 높은 것으로 평가할 수 있다. 또한 식재 방법도 식재 후 제초에 의한 방법보다 멀칭 처리한 수목이 건전도가 높은 것으로 판단되었다. 도로와 같이 지속적으로 식재 후 관리가 어려운 여건에서는 주기적인 제초 처리보다는 이식 초기에 멀칭처리하는 것이 관리의 용이성 도모하며, 수목 건전도를 높일 수 있다.

Ginseng Cultural Management and Research Update in Atlantic Canada

  • The Canadian production of American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius L.) occurs mainly in Ontario, British Columbia and the Atlantic provinces. Although ginseng is a profitable crop, its successful production is dependent on careful consideration of cultural management f include site selection, site preparation, seed selection and handling, shading actors which and mulching, pest and nutritional management, and handling of harvested crops. Diseases of particular concern in Atlantic Canada are root rots caused by Phytopkthora cactorum, Cylindrocarpon destructans and Fusarium sp. Recently two systemic fungicides (metalaxyl and fosetylal) were registered; however, growers in Atlantic Canada have experienced metalaxyl resistance resulting from the reliance on this single compound for the control of Phytophthora sap. Current research being conducted on alternative control of these diseases will be discussed. In weed control research, 2, 4-D, MCPA, clopyralid have continued to show promise for weed contro1 at low rates. In trials to evaluate non-selective herbicides as post-senescence or pre-emergence in ginseng, glyphosate (Round-up) provided control of perennials as well as willowherb and lambsquarters. In phytoxicity trials, ginseng significantly tolerated grass herbicides, including clethodim, rimsulfuron, trakloxydim, nicosulfuron and fenoxyprop. For broadleaf herbicides, significant tolerance was shown for bromoxynil, thifensulfuron methyl, flumetulam/clopyralid, thifensulfuro/tribenuron. Disease and weed management of ginseng in Atlantic Canada will be discussed.
