  • The suitability of the pattern manufactured with the development figure was considered by reviewing the development conditions that can be directly connected to the basic pattern in the human body surface development figure with the cast bandage method. The method to prepare the sleeve basic pattern was based on the cylindrical surface development method, and the sleeve basic pattern covering the 45 and 90 degrees momentum of the arm-movement was made by using the cast-type body surface development figure prepared with the horizontal line of the sleeve hem placed horizontally in the plan and by combining the cast-type body surface development figure in the standing position with the figure in the moving position. The test clothing was prepared with the sleeve pattern adding the bodice pattern in the standing position and the momentum and was worn on the FRP replica. The relationship theory of the body surface development figure with the pattern was derived by reviewing the suitability from the wearing state. The sleeve-cap height of the sleeve basic pattern resulted in about 80% in the standing position when the needs for a physical activity are 45 degrees and the about 50% when the needs for a physical activity are 90 degrees. The additional size of the diagonal length of the sleeve-cap could be set as "0" if the sleeve-cap height is low by 50% and as 50% of the additional size in the standing position if the sleeve-cap height is 80%.

  • Tsunamis are ocean waves generated by movements of the Earth's crust. Several geophysical events can lead to this kind of catastrophe: earthquakes, landslides, volcanic eruptions, and other mechanisms such as underwater explosions. Most of the damage associated with tsunamis are related to their run-up onto the shoreline. Therefore, effectively predicting the run-up process is an important aspect of any seismic sea wave mitigation effort. In this paper, a numerical simulation of the behaviors of a floating body near a quaywall during a tsunami is conducted by using a particle method. First, a solitary wave traveling over shallow water with a slope is numerically simulated, and the results are compared with experiments and other numerical results. Then, the behaviors of floating bodies with different drafts are investigated numerically.

  • Objectives : This paper discusses Normal Birth in the Korean Medical context with a focus on bodily phenomena, with an aim to shed new light on what happens to mothers and the fetuses at the time of birth. Methods : Based on contents in the medical classics, changes that happen to the mother's body and their mechanisms were examined, followed by changes that happen in the fetus. The developments that happen to the fetus in the final month of pregnancy were studied in relation to aforementioned findings on the mother. Results : Signs of birth presented in the mother's body are manifestations of bodily changes that happen in a network with certain channels/meridians and viscera/bowels surrounding the uterus. The fetus prepares for birth as well, moving downwards into the mother's pelvis and his/her shen(神) getting prepared for separation from the mother's body. Conclusions : The birth process is not a race towards a finish line that ends with the birth of the fetus. It is rather a time wherein necessary changes in both the mother and the fetus takes place for a smooth and healthy birth.

  • While implicit integration methods such as Newton's method have excellent stability for the analysis of stiff and constrained mechanical systems, they have the drawback that the evaluation and LU-factorization of the system Jacobian matrix required at every time step are time-consuming. This paper proposes a Jacobian update-free Newton's method in order to overcome these defects. Because the motions of all bodies in a vehicle model are limited with respect to the chassis body, the equations are formulated with respect to the moving chassis-body reference frame instead of the fixed inertial reference frame. This makes the system Jacobian remain nearly constant, and thus allows the Newton's method to be free from the Jacobian update. Consequently, the proposed method significantly decreases the computational cost of the vehicle dynamic simulation. This paper provides detailed generalized formulation procedures for the equations of motion, constraint equations, and generalized forces of the proposed method.

  • An efficient torso pattern has been developed to cope with the future trend of order-based, individualized production like the E.C.(Electronic Commerce) in the apparel industry, and to make a database foundation of automatic garment pattern drafting. For this purpose, a non-contact three-dimensional anthropometric measurement system was used to provide a lot of accurate body data for better individual fit, and an automatic pattern drafting system that can easily generate various size patterns and construct a pattern database has been developed too. The subjects of this research were 18 to 24 year-old women whose data had been gathered through the Korean national investigation of anthropometry for industrial standards in 1997 and various body shapes were analyzed by the measurements. And a special software system has been developed to verify the validity of newly proposed drawing rules. The results of sensory evaluation for appearance and moving fitness of the new torso pattern showed a significant improvement in individual fit even for the figures with large deviation from standard shape compared with the results of the traditional one.

  • A panel method in the spirit of Hess & Smith(1962), and also of Dawson(1977) was developed to compute the wave resistance of a submerged, or a surface piercing, body moving in the water of finite depth. As a boundary condition on the free surface what is called the Poisson equation is used, while Yasukawa(1989) chose the Dawson equation for which the double-body flow is regarded as the basic one. In order to satisfy the boundary condition on the bottom surface automatically, the sum of a Rankine source and its image with respect to the bottom surface is chosen as the Green function, and hence the singularity is distributed only on the body and on the free surface thereby decreasing the required number of panels dramatically, compared to that of Yasukawa, without the consequential loss of accuracy. Calculations were done for a submerged sphere and for the Wigley hull, and the results are compared with other existing analytical and numerical data.

  • In this paper, we consist of three dimensional acceleration sensor as a small-sized sensor module to acquire base technologies that need to estimate exhibition audience' moving distance. and that we developed algorism and device that can calculate acceleration in gravity direction with attaching it to people's body part without regard to three dimensional direction. By making use of the sensor module, we have to process the data that let it quantitatively process possible to measure people's walk and movement by computer system. We normalized sensor output data in the process of change from sensor module to acquisition of data, rectangular coordinates and single scalar acceleration value in gravity direction. Printed out sensor data attaching sensor module to people's body part is used for motion pattern detection after normalization, Motion sensor devised mode change algorism because it print data of other pattern according to attached position of body. For algorism design, we collected data occurring during walking about subject and we also defined occurring problem domain after analyzing the data. We settle defined problem domain and that we simulated the walking number measuring instrument with highly efficient in restricted environment.

  • This study investigated the garments of middle-aged women undergoing menopause and their satisfaction with them. Data were collected through a survey of 288 middle-aged women and analyzed using SPSS 17.0. As a result (in terms of degree of symptoms) backache, arthralgia, muscular pain and heat sensation were indicated as significantly more outstanding in the menopause group rather than the menopausal transition group. As a countermeasure to physiological symptoms, a change of temperature (warming or cooling) was applied for backache and arthralgia as well as taking medicine for stomachaches and muscular pain. Body parts suffering from heat sensations were the face, back neck, chest center, waist and hip. Body parts suffering from arthralgia and muscular pain were the shoulder and hip joints. The most significant purchasing factor for menopausal women was the fit of outerwear and antibiosis in underwear; however, women not undergoing menopause selected comfortableness when moving as the most important factor. In terms of body shaping and thermoregulation function, the satisfaction degree in underwear was significantly different between the two groups. Menopausal women wanted functional underwear that provided functions such as thermoregulation, absorption of secretions, and antibiosis.

  • Purpose: Patients with Parkinson's disease suffer many restrictions in daily life. This case report investigated how intervention with proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF)-based physical therapy can affect the activities of Parkinson's patients. Methods: The subject was a 67-year-old female patient diagnosed with Parkinson's disease 3 years ago. Since the last five months, overall activities have become difficult for her, and she finally visited a hospital to take outpatient physical therapy because of the gait difficulties she suffered. The patient's medical history, system review, body structure and function, and activities were evaluated. The patient had difficulties in activities such as lying down, sitting, standing, maintaining a standing position, and walking. The PNF-based intervention was used for treating the impairments and improving the activities. The intervention was performed for 30 min a day, three times a week, for eight weeks. The qualifier of the international classification of functioning, disability, and health was used to measure the result, and the measurement was conducted before and after the intervention for eight weeks. Results: According to the result, the scores for maintaining a standing position, moving around within the home, and going to the toilet improved to "no problem" from "moderate problem." The scores for shifting the body's center of gravity, walking short distances, and washing oneself improved from "moderate problem" to "mild problem." The scores for sitting and standing improved to "no problem" and "mild problem" from "complete problem." The scores for preparing meals and doing housework improved from "severe problems" to "mild problem" or "moderate problem." The scores for walking long distances, moving around outside the home and other buildings, and using transportation did not show significant changes. Conclusion: Intervention with PNF-based physical therapy improved the activity of patients with Parkinson's disease, thus proving its effectiveness. The case report suggested that a therapist can use PNF as a physical therapy intervention for patients with Parkinson's who suffered restrictions in daily activities.
