This study analyzed settlement motivation, life satisfaction factors, policy requirement targeting return farmers on mountain village. 8 target villages where return farmers live at least 10 people were selected according as cooperation of the local governments through literature by considering the area of the whole country. The return farmers in target villages were conducted a face to face survey with village headman's pre-coordination from February to September 2013. A total of 94 surveys were performed and 87 copies were used in the analysis. According to the results, the most important factor influenced the decision to be a return farmer was "my family health(3.97)". The correlation analysis was performed to examine factors related with satisfaction of "return farmer life in general". The result showed that "change of physical health" was the most important correlativity with 0.544 correlation coefficient and 0.05 significant level and "family relationship" was followed with 0.424 correlation coefficient and 0.05 significant level. According to the "important factor for the successful return-farmer life", 42.7% of respondents chose "harmonious relationships with local residents" and "stable source of income" was chosen by 29.3% of residents. A questionnaire for the analysis of policy requirements showed that "education system related Forestry(Agriculture)" was the highest demand with 4.oo points. The result can be used as a basis for establishing policies with activation of mountain villages to attract to constantly increasing population of return farmers.

For the first time basic settlement area development plan was established in 2010, in order to promote cooperative coexisting development among regions, as time that regional competitiveness determines national competitiveness started. Basic settlement area development plan is composed of 7 sectors and 24 general subsidy projects. It was judged that experience and tourism business as the center is required to be analyzed, which may have effect on activation of farm village, fishing village and mountain village, and inflow of city people, in agriculture, forestry and fishery sector in order that added value of agriculture and fishery is increased, and tangible and intangible resources are applied, and pure agriculture, forestry and fishery is developed. And currently farm village, mountain village and fishing village of our country faces desperate crisis situation that they cannot help groping for substitutive to create new revenue model, and agriculture and fishery of primary industry has limit of increasing income of farmer and fisherman. Agriculture, forestry and fishery experience and tourism business was classified by types, and then standard of 12 categories and 48 sections was prepared, for searching method to supplement and develop it. Trend of experience and tourism business was understood, and problem was found, and then it may be used as indicator material to carry out creative and differentiated business plan establishment and business operation, and may be opportunity to reject overlapped business among regions, and to promote balanced regional development.

This study aimed to define characteristics of mountain village landscapes perceived by locals to sustainably preserve and manage mountain village landscapes. We selected landscape resources of mountain villages by reviewing previous studies and conducting field surveys and surveyed mountain villages' locals to investigate the characteristics of their perceptions of the mountain village landscapes. The surveys were conducted from March to October 2019, in the form of 1:1 questionnaire survey. In consequence, highly reliable 150 responses were analyzed. IPA method(Revised Importance-Performance Analysis) was used in the analysis. It is found that, in landscapes, the first quadrant is 'Cultivated land, Forest', the second quadrant is 'Coastal, Forestry and Agriculture Facility', the third quadrant is 'Forest Service·Profitable Facility, Settlement, History and Culture', and the fourth quadrant is 'Riparian, Street'. In conclusion, locals of mountain villages are perceiving the mountain village landscapes based on their livelihoods and daily lives, and the mountain village landscapes are closely related to their lives. The results of this study are expected to be utilized as fundamental resources in establishing policies regarding sustainable conservation and management of mountain village landscapes which led by locals.
The drastic change of mountain community, which have led existing villages to a size reduction or an extinction, makes this study concentrate on finding out the new community unit as a spatial zone of dayily life and agricultural production. The communality which has played a key role in a aura settlement consistency has been focused on the socio-economic aspect till now, neglecting the spatia] nature. The settlement-communality( SC) putting a stress on the spatial aspect can be, therefore, shapec as being multi-dimensional, composed of both a horizontally areal coverage on the surface of the residential place and a vertically hierarchial relationship between settlements, by analyzing thro( elements of communality that are the economic, socio -cultural and spatial activities. The research site is located administratively in Milan-Myoun, Pyoungchang-Gun, Gangwon-Do that ha: the characteristics as a typical mountain community. The results of field survey of which the method i: to draw the activity zone from an interview with every village's head and some residents with th( prepared questionaire can be summarized as followings. Firstly, the SC in almost all villages tended to be weakened or extincted, none the less, the spatia zone of that overally enlarged and got out of natural village unit(hamlet). However the areal coverall on which the SC has an influence reaches up to the alliant domain of a few villages generally congruen with the lowest level administrative district, Secondly, the economic and social activity pattern in village life has a tendency to be directly linked with a upper central place, so that has induced the function of a central village in the middle-low settlement hierarchy to be largely shrinked. Not only the conventional residents'access to goods service but also the recent service-delivers'access to residents has gradually formed the vertical communality with direct linkage between the upper and the bottom level settlements Lastly, the enfeeblement of the SC in the lowest settlement level tends to be supplemented by enlarging the horizontal zone of the SC or especially by strengthening the vertical direct linkage system. The very this point makes the mountain community open to the external world and also makes the spatial unit of community be multi-dimensional just like a cubic.

This study aimed to develop an index to assess the level of revitalization in mountain villages by utilizing big data and to verify its applicability in such areas. To achieve this, four key indices related to mountain villages were developed to evaluate the degree of revitalization, namely, Settlement Index, Workplace Index, Learning Index, and Leisure Index. These indices enable users to compare the revitalization levels of different mountain villages by establishing living zones, assigning data weights, extracting comparative data, and generating results in both map and report formats. The revitalization index developed in this study was applied to five mountain villages (A, B, C, D, E) located in Jeollabuk-do. Results showed that Village C had the highest comprehensive score of 320 points, while Village E had the lowest score of 141 points. In the mountain village indices of Jeollabuk-do, the Workplace Index generally showed higher scores, whereas the Learning Index had relatively lower scores on average. The development of these indices provides a practical means to identify which areas should be prioritized for support to enhance revitalization in specific mountain villages and offers a clear comparison of the revitalization levels across different regions and individual villages. The mountain village revitalization index developed in this study is expected to serve as valuable foundational information for formulating mountain village revitalization policies.
Place names represent a lot of information about the region and the life of the local residents. In particular, old geographical names have more spatial informations than recent place names. This paper tried to analyze the distribution and characteristic of 'Dumo' which is one of the ancient place names and was studied by Nam youngwoo in 1996 for the first time. After considering the etymology and phonological structure of 'Dumo', the name 'Dumo' included the geographic conditions related to a mountain and river in itself. The total number of place names in the line of 'Dumo' which were collected by the author were 417 and they were distributed evenly on the Korean Peninsula. 85% of them were used for the human place names and 73% of the human place names were served as settlement names standing for a village or an administrative district. Thus the author analyzed the location and diffusion of 220 of settlement names in depth. As a result, villages named in the line of 'Dumo' preferred southern or eastern exposure and located in front of a mountain and around a river. After a village name 'Dumo' was set up, it produces other similar names in the line of 'Dumo' near the village so most place names of 'Dumo' were found with several names of 'Dumo' not alone.

Rutian village is situated at the lower stream of Tumen river- U shaped entrance which is around many small mountains. This village which can be entered through the ferry of the HyoRyongBong village had started to be founded before the "Korean village"was founded. It was cultivated by Chinese, but because of the increasing number of the Korean immigrants, it finally became the village for only Korean Chinese. It has become from the very small village in the reclamation period to the prosperous one containing 45 houses in the Cultural Revolution period. Unfortunately, after adopting the Open policy, the village got smaller and contained only 15 houses. The reasons were: many young people emigrated to big cities for economic security and the education of their children; some went abroad to get job. To see the space structure for the village, streets and the roads, which can connect 130-year-old village to the villages around it, were opened as national roads. Bat these roads disappeared and also were not used much because of the decreasing number of resident population. The residence has become from the very small village in the reclamation period to the prosperous one and then become a smaller one again now. Especially, front villages and remote villages have started to disappear. Moreover, because of a good geographical condition such as the mountain and the water, fish farms have been much built up, and so houses with business facilities have started to build up.

Namhansan fortress of Kwangju in Kyonggi Province has remained a traumatic historical landscape of Manchu invasion in the year 1636. Skirted by the mountain fortress and on the ground of the uplifted flatland was the county seat which was relocated in 16Z7 from Kogol at the underneath ravine and later removed in 1917 to a crossroad place at the low-lying river plain. Once a secluded mountain village, Sungnaedong was at the outset planned as a county town of Kwangju, achieving thereafter a dramatic transformation from a small town of three hundred households into a nascent urban settlement of approximately six hundred households by the mid-18th century. The townscape of Sungnaedong features shrines, a second palace, a magistrate-commander's office, administrative buildings, and a periodic marketplace which were all decreed by the Neo-confucian template of the scheme of county seats. Townspeople managed to live on tilling tax-alleviated crop lands, trading merchandise, and selling their labor. Changing socio-economic situations led to the relocation of the administration center to the gateway village of Jumakri, which consequently heralded the decline of the mountain-fortress settlement of Sansungri at Namhansan.
Rural villages have many problems such as the collapse of rural village communities with continued over-depopulation and aging, reduced functions of towns and villages, deteriorated services with changes in the structure of settlement class and decreased use of the facilities. they also have difficulties in maintenance in spite of the increase of the roles of rural village community facilities. Various plans for the utilization of community facilities to promote the vitality of rural villages and the revitalization of communities have been needed. Thus, this study aimed to offer basic data to seek for future plans to utilize community facilities and reconstruct communities through an analysis of the current uses of energy and community facilities in rural villages. The results indicated that the consumption of petroleum was highest in mountain villages at an average of 187,475 won/month($137{\ell}$), followed by fishing villages at an average of 144,142 won/month($104{\ell}$) and rural villages at an average of 126,070 won/month($93{\ell}$). The rate of utilization of community facilities was reversely highest in rural villages at 84.3%, followed by fishing villages at 61.1% and mountain villages at 40.7%. This research also found that households saved energy when they used community facilities and areas with a high rate of utilization of community facilities at a lower average temperature in winter. It saved approximately 33% energy compared to other areas. Finally, efficient and economical methods for community facilities in villages to be newly developed and the remodeling of existing facilities should been needed in the future to contribute to reconstructing rural village communities that face a crisis of maintenance or abolition.
