Commutators of a starting motor for automobiles has been produced through various processes such as forging, segmenting, and assembling. And the conventional method producing an automotive motor commutator is not appropriate for saving material and cost, because it makes each segment separated one by one. Therefore a new process design is required in oder to avoid the assembling process. In this study, a new process design of the commutator of an automotive starting motor has been carried out to save material and manufacturing time by FE analysis. In the FE analysis, three forging processes are proposed for producing the copper(ASTM Cl1000) commutators of a starting motor. And forging experiments are performed to make an unsegmented commutator in order to verify the theoretically proposed process. And then, in order to get the final product, the forged commutator is passed through various postprocessing such as resin terming, and machining. From the experimental result, the forging process proposed from the FE analysis is verified to be an economical method for producing the commutator of an automotive starting motor.
A nonlinear dynamic simulation model from cranking to idle speed is developed to optimize the cold start process of a diesel engine. Physically-based first order nonlinear differential equations and some algebraic equations describing engine dynamics and starter motor dynamics are used to model the performance of cold starting process which is very complex and involves many components including the cold start aiding method. These equations are solved using numerical schemes to describe the starting process of a diesel engine and to study the effects of cold starting parameters. The validity of this model is examined by a cold start test at $-20^{\circ}C$. Using the developed model the effects of the important starting variables on the cold starting processes were investigated. This model can be served as a tool for designing computer aided control systems that improve cold start performance.
To optimize the cold start process of a 4-stroke, 8 cylinder Diesel engine, a dynamic simulation model from cranking to idle speed is developed. Physically-based first order starter motor dynamics are used to model the performance of starting process which is very complex. These equations are solved using numerical schemes(Petzold-Gear BDF method) to describe the starting process of diesel engine and to study the effects of starting parameters. The validity of this model is examined by start test. This model can be served as a tool for computer aided control systems design to improve cold improve cold start performance.
The purpose of this paper is the rotor design of a single-phase LSPM(Line-start permanent magnet) motor. A single-phase LSPM motor has a permanent magnet in the rotor that is same as induction motor. For that reason, magnet is operated by breaking torque in starting region and alignment torque in driving region. Therefore, we need the design process considering the trade-off relationship. In this paper, we propose the design process of a single-phase LSPM motor for a high starting torque and efficiency with FEM. And we use Taguchi Method for considering tolerance in manufacture. Finally, we compared the LSPM motor that is designed in this paper and conventional induction motor.
PG and RG methods are widely known method for calculating the capacity of the emergency generator in construction electrical installation. PG and RG methods are mainly used as a saving a life, fire protection, fire fighting in construction. Because no long distance between the emergency generator and electric motor feeder, the relatively small motor power in construction electrical installation, the capacity of generator in PG and RG methods are little problem of voltage and reactive power of generator. However in many cases the application of the PG and RG method is difficult in the Chemical Plant because it is long distance between the generator and the motor Feeder and motor capacity is very large. Motor starting power factor is about 0.2 lagging power factor and motor starting current is about 6times during motor staring. Also Most of the staring current component is a reactive power component. therefore, it is many cases that lack of reactive power and excess of allowable voltage drop limit and After selection of emergency diesel generator, problems happen during motor starting. Therefore, to be selection of effective emergency generator, active generator power, reactive power and the required reactive power during large motor starting should be considered in chemical plant. It is also required of the verification process through simulation because hand calculation is very difficult considering study cases.
The purpose of this paper is the optimal design of a single-phase LSPM(Line-Start Permanent Magnet Motor). A single-phase LSPM has a permanent magnet in the rotor that is same as induction motor. For that reason, magnet is operated by breaking torque in starting region and alignment torque in driving region. Therefore, we need the design process considering the trade-off relationship. In this paper, we propose the design process of a single-phase LSPM for a high starting torque and efficiency with equivalent circuit and FEM. And we use Taguchi Method for considering tolerance in manufacture. Finally, we compared the LSPM that is designed in this paper and conventional induction motor.
This paper presents design process of linear induction motor in dynamic tester for catenary-current collection. To minimize length of rail for dynamic tester for catenary-current collection, accelerating performance of the linear induction motor is very important. So the design process of linear induction motor considered in this paper is different with general design process of linear induction motor, because dynamic tester has three type driving region, as accelerating region, constant speed region, and braking region. Considering accelerating performance of motor, distance and time from starting point to constant speed region were concerned for load condition of motor. Designed linear induction motor was analyzed by 2-dimensional finite element method. Using mechanical dynamics simulation with analysis result of 2-dimensional finite element method and accelerating performance of designed motor was proved.
This paper presents the results of investigating harmonic levels on medium voltage motors at loading conditions in air separation plant. The essential results of the measurements of the medium voltage motor harmonics are summarized in the values for the total harmonic distortion (THD). Motors loading case is used to assess the current and voltage harmonic distortions. Proper system analysis is important when adding a new motor starting and controlling the equipment. With the result of the paper it is possible to suggest the most appropriate starting and control method. Two medium voltage motors of air separation unit measurement results and simulations are summarized. Both current and voltage harmonic distortions are fitted by using a linear and exponential regression model. The prediction of THD values can be used for this kind of process for future planning by utilities.
In this paper, single phase induction motor achieved improvement in efficiency by adapting the condition of Balanced operation and Quasi-balanced operation. Also, the process of efficiency improvement to find the optimum point of secondary resistance and running capacitor for working single phase induction motor is performed in order to attain the conclusion to put out the maximum efficiency at the rated operation point with meeting the starting torque.
The DC motor has the strong characteristics in the speed response, the system parameter variations and the external influence and is used as the speed controller with its good starting torque in the distributing industry. However development of the Microprocessor which is for high speed switching program can make better control system. This paper introduce to design of the high-effective DC motor controller that is using Software Bang-Bang Program of Fuzzy algorithm and to verity a PI controller and a Fuzzy controller.
