Speed Sensorless DC Motor Using Kalman Filter

  • This paper proposes a new application of Kalman filter to estimate speed sensorless DC motor. Kalman filter can estimate the system state variables accurately; even the system input is disturbed with noise. In the design, the mathematical model of DC motor in discrete state-space form will be created; the speed of DC motor which is considered as state variable and can be estimated by using Kalman filter. In the experiment; TMS320C31 floating point digital signal processor is used for hardware implementation, the input is disturbed with/and without white noise in the experiment. The experimental results show the speed of DC motor which is estimated by Kalman filter has good accuracy when compared with the results from tacho-meter.

  • The safety related equipments for use in nuclear power plants should be subjected to the seismic qualification in order to insure the safety of the nuclear power plant. This paper summarizes the seismic qualification test on the Low Voltage Motor Control Centers(MCC's) for use in Wolsong Nuclear Power Plants, Units 2, 3 and 4. The seismic qualification test was performed on the two prototype MCC's(a two-bay wide unit for Phase #1 Test and a five-bay wide unit for Phase #2 Test). The specimens were electrically powered and monitored during the test process. It was demonstrated that the specimens possessed sufficient structural and electrical integrity to withstand the required seismic conditions.

  • A brushless and slotless DC linear motor(LDM)employing a movable set of neodymium-iron-boron type of magnets has high performances in advantages of large thrust per weights and accurate position control. But the Moving Magnet LDM produces thrust ripples owing to mainly end-effects, shape and magnetization of permanent magnets and so on. This paper represents the improvements of thrust ripples using the finite elements methods and phase control topology.

  • The increment of electric power demand causes interest on new higher power system such as 42V Power Net, and furthermore necessity for development of energy storage device is highlighted recently. Owing to high efficiency and easy speed control of brushless DC(BLDC) motor, the demand of BLDC motor that has high power and low noises are increasing. Especially demand of interior permanent magnet(IPM) type BLDC with high efficiency and high power in electric motion vehicle is increasing. This paper presents the design of the BLBC motor for EHPS(Electro-Hydraulic Power Steering) in 42V system and verified the characteristics by simulation and test results.

  • The paper describes a new and rigorous mathematical model for the rotor field oriented system with induction motor which uses the estimated speed and rotor flux based on a Model Reference Adaptive System, as well as the real-time approach. The estimated speed and rotor flux is used for the speed and flux feedback control. The stability and the convergence of the estimator are improved on the basis of hyperstability theory for non-linear systems. The real-time controller and estimator are implemented with a sampling period of $926{\mu}s$ using a dual TMS320C44 floating-point digital signal processor. The validity of the proposed method is verified by simulation, and also, the sensorless control was tested on the propulsion system simulator, used for the development of Korean High-Speed Railway Train (KHSRT) [5].

  • Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) control needs to generate the maximum power of a tidal current turbine. A tidal current speed sensor is required to achieve effective generated power in a tidal current generation system. The most common methods used to achieve such power is the tip speed ratio of turbine and tidal current information. However, these methods have disadvantages, such as expensive installation of the tidal current sensor, parameter errors in turbine design, and different information according to the installed position of the tidal current sensor. This paper proposes a maximum power control scheme using perturb-and-observe (P&O) for tidal current generation system. The proposed P&O MPPT scheme can achieve the maximum power without tidal current sensors and turbine design parameters. The reliability and suitability of the proposed control scheme are proven through simulation and experiment results at the tidal current generation laboratory.

전신 진동자극 훈련이 경직형 뇌성마비 아동의 하지 근 두께와 대동작 운동기능에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Whole Body Vibration Training on Lower Limb Muscle Thickness and Gross Motor Function in Children with Spastic Cerebral Palsy)

  • PURPOSE: This study aimed to quantify the effects of whole body vibration (WBV) stimulation training on the muscle thickness and gross motor function in children with spastic cerebral palsy. METHODS: Twenty children diagnosed with spastic cerebral palsy were assigned randomly to the Whole Body Vibration (WBV) group (n=10) and control group (n=10). The WBV group received vibration therapy including five different therapy, and the control group received only five general physiotherapy sessions. After 10 weeks of intervention, the muscle thickness was measured using ultrasound, and the Gross Motor Function D and E items were evaluated. RESULTS: After the intervention, both groups showed a significant increase in muscle thickness and gross motor function (p<.05). The WBV group showed a significant increase in the quadriceps femoris and tibialis anterior muscles compared to the control group, whereas no significant increase in the gastrocnemius muscle was observed (p<.05). The WBV group showed significant improvement in the Gross Motor Function D and E scores compared to the control group (p<.05). CONCLUSION: WBV training may be a useful way of improving the lower extremity muscle strength in children with spastic cerebral palsy, which may help improve the gross motor function.

  • In this paper, a simulation model for 7-phase BLDC motor drives for an Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV) is proposed. A 7-phase BLDC motor is designed and the electrical characteristics are analyzed using FEA program and the power electronics drives for the 7-phase BLDC motor are theoretically analyzed and the actual implementation has been accomplished using Matlab Simulink. PI controller and fuzzy controller are compared for verifying the validity of the proposed model and the informative results are described in detail. Especially A fuzzy controller is used to characterize 7-phase BLDC motor, drive systems under normal and fault operating conditions.

Fault Tolerant Control Methods for Dual Type Independent Multi-Phase BLDC Motor under the Open-Switch Fault Conditions

  • Dual type Independent multi-phase BLDC Motor (DI-BLDCM) is designed to be robust to faulty conditions of motor and drive system. Despite the efforts of the motor design, open-switch faults of DI-BLDCM drive system cause the torque ripple of the motor. This torque ripple makes unwanted sound noise and mechanical vibration of associated systems. This paper proposes four methods for compensating the torque ripple and compares the characteristics of each proposed method. All proposed methods are able to reduce the torque ripple to similar level of the healthy condition, although the motor operates in open-switch fault conditions. However, these methods have different characteristics in various fault conditions. Therefore, from the results of the comparison, the suitable method is selected for the various fault conditions. The feasibility of the proposed methods is proved by the several experimental results.

  • Servo systems became indispensable to applications such as industrial robots and numerically controlled machinery. Especially, induction motor drives are widely used as ac-servo system owing to the fact that it is maintenance-free. At the present time, Quick torque control methods such as vector control have been employed that enables an induction motor to attain as quick torque response as a dc motor. However, these methods can not be realized without knowing several motor parameters accurately, because the methods need them to calculate flux or voltage command. Most of all, secondary resistance has to be identified accurately, because it's value varies greatly for operation of induction motors. In this paper, a new identification method of secondary resistance based on quick torque control system of induction motors is proposed. The proposed method is derived theoretically from motor circuit equation and can be realized very simply by detecting primary current and voltage command of the motor. Through the numerical simulation considered using PWM inverter, the validity of the proposed method was successfully confirmed.
