Active Mechanical Vibration Control of Rotary Compressors for Air-conditioning Systems

  • Recent power electronics and variable-frequency motor drive technologies have been applied to air conditioners to improve efficiency and power density. However, the mechanical vibrations and acoustic noise resulting from the compressor still remain as a serious problem. This paper presents the development and implementation of an online disturbance state-filter for the suppression of multiple unknown and time-varying vibrations of air conditioning systems. The proposed design has a form of the state-filter based on a Luenburger-style closed-loop speed observer. An active vibration decoupling strategy with an estimated disturbance is provided, which manipulates a motor torque command. Since the proposed estimation does not require any additional transducers or hardware for obtaining real-time information upon disturbances, it is suitable for retrofitting industrial air conditioners.

  • 최근 가전제품에 브러시리스 직류 (Brushless DC) 전동기의 센서리스 드라이브를 적용시키는 사례가 증가하고 있다. 특히 사람들의 삶의 질이 향상 됨에 따라 가정에서 가장 밀접하게 연관되어 있는 냉장고, 에어컨과 같은 가전제품에 가청소음을 줄여 보다 편안하고 안락한 생활을 추구하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 브러시리스 직류전동기에 랜덤 PWM을 적용한 냉장고용 압축기의 저가형 센서리스 드라이브를 이용하여 기존 드라이브 보다 가격과 소음을 줄일 수 있음을 실험하였다. 이러한 실험으로 전자적 소음을 줄임으로써 소음에 질을 향상시킬 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

A New Approach for Pulsating Torque Minimization of BLDC Motor

  • Torque ripple control of brushless DC motor has long been the main issue of the servo drive systems in which the speed fluctuation, vibration and acoustic noise need to be minimized. The vast majority of the methods for suppressing the torque ripple require the Fourier series analysis and either the iterative or least mean square minimization. In this paper, a novel approach based on the d-q-0 reference frame that achieves ripple-free torque control with maximum efficiency is presented. The proposed method optimizes the reference phase current waveforms including even the case of 3-phase unbalanced condition, and the motor winding currents are controlled to track the optimized current waveforms by the delta modulation technique. As a results, the proposed approach provides a simple and yet effectine means for obtaining the optimal motor excitation currents. The validity and applicability of the proposed control scheme are verified through simulations and experimental investigations.

  • In this paper, a comparative study on the performance of two-phase and three-phase randomized pulse position PWM scheme for mitigation of audible switching acoustic noise in motor drives Is done. In the randomized pulse position PWM, each of two-phase or three-phase PWM pulses is located randomly in each switching interval. Simulation and experimental efforts were executed to investigate the spread effects of power spectra of inverter output voltage, waveforms of ripple current and audible switching acoustic noise.

  • In this paper, a new two-phase space vector RPWM(Random PWM) is proposed. In the proposed RPWM, each of two-phase PWM pulses is located randomly in each switching interval. Based on the space vector modulation technique, the duty ratio of the pulses is calculated. Along with the randomization of the PWM pulses, we can obtain the effects of spread spectra of inverter output voltage, d.c link current and audible switching acoustic noise as in the case of randomly changed switching frequency. To verify the validity of the proposed two-phase RPWM scheme, the experiment based on the C167 micro-controller was executed. The performance of the proposed scheme was compared with traditional PWM schemes experimentally.

  • RPWM(Random Pulse Width Modulation)은 인버터의 스위칭 주파수를 랜덤하게 변화 시킴으로써 전압, 전류의 고조파 및 소음의 스펙트럼을 광대역에 분산시키는 PWM 기법이다. 스위칭 주파수 또는 펄스의 위치를 랜덤하게 변화시켜 고조파의 불연속적인 이산치 성분을 넓은 영역에 분산시켜 EMI, 진동 등에 좋은 효과를 낼 수 있을 뿐만 아니라, 전력소자의 스위칭에 의해 발생하는 가청 스위칭 소음을 저감할 수 있으므로 근래에 매우 각광 받고 있다. 본 연구에서는 펄스의 위치를 랜덤하게 함으로써 가청 스위칭 소음을 저감할 수 있는 새로운 RPPWM(Random Position Pulse Width Modulation) 방식의 제안 및 구현하였다. 제안된 방식은 각 3상 펄스들의 위치를 변조 구간 내의 임의의 위치에 랜덤하게 배치함으로써 RPWM을 구현하는 방식이다. 이를 위하여 16bit 공성능 마이크로 컨트롤러의 C167을 사용하여, 공각 벡터 변조에 의하여 각 변조 구간에서의 듀티비를 구한 후, 랜덤수 발생기를 이용하여 균일한 분포로 각 상의 펄스를 배치하였다. 그리고 제안된 RPPWM을 이용하여 실험한 결고, 전압, 전류 및 소음의 스텍트럼이 광대역화 되어 전력소자의 스위칭에 의해 발생하는 전동기의 가청 스위칭 소음이 현저히 저감 됨을 확인하였다.

  • The RPWM (Random· Pulse Width Modulation) is a switching technique to spread the voltage and current harmonics over a wide frequency area. By using randomly changing switching frequency of the inverter, the power spectrum of the electromagnetic acoustic noise can be spread to the wide-band area. The wide­band noise is much more comfortable and less annoying than the narrow-band one. So, the RPWM has been attracting interest as an excellent method for the reduction of acoustic noise on the inverter drive system. In this paper a new RPPWM (Random Position Space Vector PWM) is proposed and implemented. Each of three phase pulses is located randomly in each switching interval. Along with the randomization of PWM pulses, the space vector modulation is also executed in the C167 micro-controller. The experimental results show that the voltage and current harmonics are spread to a wide band area and that the audible switching noise is reduced by the proposed RPPWM method.

  • This paper describes the design of a 2-phase stepping motor driver using CPLD(Complex Programmable Logic Device). The driver IC such as L297 (SGS-Thomson Microelectronics), which is mostly used has some problems in PWM control because of the switching noise of power MOSFETs. It causes current ripple and acoustic noise. To improve theses characteristics, we proposed a new current control method that the output PWM frequency is almost constant using a digital filter. Also we proposed constant current method for 1-2 phase(half step) excitation. The proposed method is implemented with CPLD(Xilinx, XC9572-PC44). Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • In a permanent magnet brushless dc motor, cogging torque is produced by the magnetic attraction between the rotor mounted permanent magnets and the stator teeth. This always produces a pulsating torque ripple resulting in vibration and acoustic noise, which is detrimental to the motor performance. This paper deals with the analytical prediction of cogging torque and the various cogging torque minimization techniques as applied to a permanent magnet brushless dc motor.

  • This paper discusses the development of a 3.5 kW switched reluctance motor (SRM)-based electric air-conditioning (AC) compressor, focusing primarily on the design aspects of the SRM and the integrated controller. In addition to the increased price of rare-earth magnets, SRM's operation capability at high speed and high temperature makes the SRM a viable alternative to the permanent magnet motor for electrically driven automotive air conditioning compressors. A compact and energy efficient scroll compressor is designed and constructed. Two feasible SRM topologies are considered, in terms of efficiency, torque ripple, and acoustic noise. Compact drive electronics are designed and employed to drive the SRM-based compressor. The static and dynamic performance is validated by simulation and experiment.
