  • Among various inter prediction techniques of Versatile Video Coding (VVC), adaptive motion vector resolution (AMVR) technology has been adopted. However, for AMVR, various MVs should be tested per each coding unit, which needs a computation of rate-distortion cost and results in an increase in encoding complexity. Therefore, in order to reduce the encoding complexity of AMVR, it is necessary to effectively find an optimal AMVR mode. In this paper, we propose a lightweight neural network-based AMVR decision algorithm based on more diverse datasets.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to select motion vector predictor by considering prediction structure of a multi view content for coding efficiency of multi view coding which is being standardized in JVT. Motion vector of a different tendency is happened while carrying out temporal and view reference prediction of multi-view video coding. Also, due to the phenomena of motion vectors being searched in both temporal and view order, the motion vectors do not agree with each other resulting a decline in coding efficiency. This paper is about how the motion vector predictor are selected with information of prediction structure. By using the proposed method, a compression ratio of the proposed method in multi-view video coding is increased, and finally $0.03{\sim}0.1$ dB PSNR(Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio) improvement was obtained compared with the case of JMVM 3.6 method.

  • In this paper, we propose a method for dynamic selection of unrestricted motion vector(UMV) or default prediction mode(DPM) in H.263 bit stream. For this, we use the error of compensated image and the magnitude of motion vector. In the proposed strategy, the UMV mode is dynamically applied in a frame according to average magnitude of motion vector and error of compensated image. This scheme has improved the quality of image compared to the fixed mode UMV or DPM only. Number of searching points are greatly reduced when comparing to UMV The proposed method is more profitable to long video sequences having camera movement locally.

  • In order to fedice the computational complexity of the motion estimation for the spatio-temporal prediction of the higher layer, two estimation method are proposed. In the first one, the motion vector of the higher layer is estimated within the small search range by using the previously estimated motion vector in the lower layer as an innitial vector. Inthe second one, the notion vector is estimated by the spatio-temporally weighted search, which is combined with the previously estimated motion vector of the lower layer and the weight for spatial prediction. Simulation results show that the proposed methods give the smaller computational complexity without the degradation of the coding efficiency than the conventinal one.

  • In this paper, we proposed a lwo bit rate subband coding with adaptive vector quantization using the correlation between motion vector and block energy in subband. In this method, the difference between the input signal and the motion compensated interframe prediction signal is decomposed into several narrow bands using quadrature mirror filter (QMF) structure. The subband signals are then quantized by adaptive vector quantizers. In the codebook generating process, each classified region closer to the block value in the same region after the classification of region by the magnitude of motion vector and the variance values of subband block. Because codebook is genrated considering energy distribution of each region classified by motion vector and variance of subband block, this technique gives a very good visual quality at low bit rate coding.

  • H.264/AVC is an international video coding standard that is established in cooperation with ITU-T VCEG and ISO/IEC MPEG, which shows improved code and efficiency than the previous video standards. Motion estimation using various macroblock from 44 to 1616 among the compression techniques of H.264/AVC contributes much to high compression efficiency. Generally, in the case of small motion vector or low complexity about P slice is decided $P16{\times}16$ mode encoding method. But according to circumstances, macroblock is decided $P16{\times}16$ mode despite large motion vector. If the motion vector variance is more than threshold and final select mode is $P16{\times}16$ mode, it is switched to $P8{\times}8$ mode, so this paper shows that the storage capacity is reduced. The results of experiment show that the proposed algorithm increases the compression efficiency of the H.264/AVC algorithm to 0.4%, even reducing the time and without increasing complexity.

  • In this paper, we propose a fast motion estimation algorithm using motion prediction and neural network. Considering that the motion vectors have high spatial correlation, the motion vector of current block is predicted by those of neighboring blocks. The codebook of motion vector is designed by Kohonen self-organizing feature map(KSFM) learning algorithm which has a fast learning speed and 2-D adaptive chararteristics. Since the similar codevectors are closely located in the 2-D codebook the motion is progressively estimated from the predicted codevector in the codebook. Computer simulation results show that the proposed method has a good performance with reduced computational complexity.

  • This paper presents a new algorithm that includes a mechanism to avoid local solutions in a motion vector detection method that uses the steepest descent method. Two different implementations of the algorithm are demonstrated using two major search methods for tree structures, depth first search and breadth first search. Furthermore, it is shown that by avoiding local solutions, both of these implementations are able to obtain smaller prediction errors compared to conventional motion vector detection methods using the steepest descent method, and are able to perform motion vector detection within an arbitrary upper limit on the number of computations. The effects that differences in the search order have on the effectiveness of avoiding local solutions are also presented.

  • The motion compensated coding (MCC) technique, which exploits the temporal redundancies in the moving images with the motion estimation technique,is one of the most popular techniques currently used. Recently, a variable block size(VBS) motion estimation scheme has been utilized to improve the performance of the motion compensted coding. This scheme allows large blocks to the used when smaller blocks provide little gain, saving rates for areas containing more complex motion. Hence, a new VBS motion estimation scheme with a hierarchical structure is proposed in this paper, in order to combine the motion vector coding technique efficiently. Topmost level motion vector, which is obtained by the gain/cost motion estimation technique with selective motion prediction method, is always transmitted. Thus, the hierarchical VBS motion estimation scheme can efficiently exploit the redundancies among neighboring motion vectors, providing an efficient motion vector encoding scheme. Also, a restricted search with respect to the topmost level motion vector enables more flexible and efficient motion estimation for the remaining lower level blocks. Computer simulations on the high resolution image sequence show that, the VBS motion estimation scheme provides a performance improvement of 0.6~0.7 dB, in terms of PSNR, compared to the fixed block size motion estimation scheme.
