  • Twin-servo mechanism is used to increase the payload capacity and speed of high precision motion control system. In this paper, we propose a robust synchronizing motion control algorithm to cancel out the skew motion of twin-servo system caused by different dynamic characteristics of two driving systems and the vibration generated by high accelerating and decelerating motions. This proposed control algorithm consists of separate feedback motion control algorithm of each driving system and skew motion compensation algorithm between two systems. Robust model reference tracking controller is proposed as a separate motion controller and its disturbance attenuation property is shown. For the synchronizing motion, skew motion compensation algorithm is designed, and the stability of whole Closed loop system is proved based on passivity theory.

  • In this paper, we propose a system for automatic moving object detection and tracking in sequence images acquired from a moving camera. The proposed algorithm consists of moving object detection and its tracking. Moving object can be detected by integration of BBME and DD method We segment the detected object using histogram back projection, match it using histogram intersection, extract and track it using XY-projection. Computer simulation results have shown that the proposed algorithm is reliable and can successfully detect and track a moving object on image sequences obtained by a moving camera.

  • Most motion control systems consist of a desired trajectory generator, a motion controller such as a conventional PID controller, and a plant to be controlled. The desired trajectory generator as well as the motion controller is very important to achieve a good tracking performance. Especially, if the desired trajectory is generated actively utilizing the maximum velocity, acceleration, jerk and snap as given system specifications, the tracking performance would be better. For this, we make use of the properties of convolution operator in order to generate a smooth (S-curve) trajectory satisfying the system specifications. Also, the proposed trajectory generation method is extended to more general cases with arbitrary initial and terminal conditions. In addition, the suggested trajectory generator can be easily realized for real-time implementation. Finally, the effectiveness of the suggested method is shown through numerical simulations.

  • Finding sufficient supplies of clean energy for future is one of the society's most important challenges according to technologies. Alternative renewable energy source such as sun energy can be substituted for exceeding human energy need. The main factor affect to solar performance is a collective intensity. To enhance intensity, suitable equipment is a solar tracker. This paper presents design and evaluation of 1 layer polar motion control system for solar tracker suitable for building integrated system. To evaluation of tracking accuracy and adaptability, solar tracker with 64 links is implemented. In experimental results, the accuracy of tracking has under ${\pm}0.0287^{\circ}$ and the thickness has under 140mm.

  • This work describes a real-time method, based on motion energy detection, for detecting and tracking moving object in the consecutive image sequences. The motion of moving objects is detected by taking the difference of the two consecutive image frames. In addition an edge information of the current image is utilized in order to further increase the accuracy of detection. We can track the moving objects continuously by detecting the motion of objects from the sequence of image frames. A prototype system has been implemented using a TI TMS320C6201 EVM fixed-point DSP board, which can successfully track a moving human in real-time.

  • This paper proposes a face tracking algorithm for a viewpoint adaptive multi-view synthesis system. The original scene captured by a depth camera contains a texture image and 8 bit gray-scale depth map. From this original image, multi-view images that correspond to the viewer's position can be synthesized using geometrical transformations, such as rotation and translation. The proposed face tracking technique gives a motion parallax cue by different viewpoints and view angles. In the proposed algorithm, the viewer's dominant face, which is established initially from a camera, can be tracked using the statistical characteristics of face colors and deformable templates. As a result, a motion parallax cue can be provided by detecting the viewer's dominant face area and tracking it, even under a heterogeneous background, and synthesized sequences can be displayed successfully.

  • In order to communicate with a ground station, the tracking profile design problem for a directional antenna system is considered. Because the motions of the gimbal angles in the antenna system affect the image quality, the main object is to minimize the motion of the gimbal angles during the satellite's imaging phase. For this goal, parameter optimization problems in the imaging and maneuver phases are formulated separately in the body-frame, and solved sequentially. Also, several mechanical constraints, such as the limitation of the gimbal angle and rate, are considered in the problems. The tracking profiles of the gimbal angles in the maneuver phases are designed with N-th order polynomials, to continuously connect the tracking profiles between two imaging phases. The results confirm that if the vector trace of the desired antenna-pointing vector is within the antenna's beam-width angle, motions of the gimbal angles are not required in the corresponding imaging phase. Also, through numerical examples, it is shown that motion of the gimbal angles in the imaging phase can be minimized by the proposed design process.

  • Advanced TV makes the life more convenient for the viewers and it is based on the recognition technology. In this paper, we propose the implementation of face tracking system for efficient face recognition in intelligent digital TV. To recognize the face, face detection should be performed earlier. We use the motion information to track the face. Continuous face tracking is possible by using continuous detected face region and motion information. Thus the computational complexity of the recognition module in the whole system can be reduced.

  • Surveillance system using active tracking camera has no distance limitation of surveillance range compared to supersonic or sound sensors. However, complex motion tracking algorithm requires huge amount of computation. Compared to conventional methods using DSPs or embedded processors, this paper proposes and implements a novel motion tracker unit that detects and extracts motion information of moving objects by using picture difference of consecutive frames. The proposed motion tracker unit was implemented in FPGA with about 13,000 gates. It processes NTSC format video and was verified by embedding it into the active surveillance camera system. We also propose and implements a motion estimator unit linkable to video codec by embedding the proposed motion tracker unit into ready-made motion estimator unit. The implemented motion estimator unit is about 17,000 gates in $0.35{\mu}m$ process.

  • This paper presents a method for occluded object based motion estimation and tracking system in dynamic image sequences using particle filter with 3D reconstruction. A unique characteristic of this study is its ability to cope with partial occlusion based continuous motion estimation using particle filter inspired from the mirror neuron system in human brain. To update a prior knowledge about the shape or motion of objects, firstly, fundamental 3D reconstruction based occlusion tracing method is applied and object landmarks are determined. And optical flow based motion vector is estimated from the movement of the landmarks. When arbitrary partial occlusions are occurred, the continuous motion of the hidden parts of object can be estimated by particle filter with optical flow. The resistance of the resulting estimation to partial occlusions enables the more accurate detection and handling of more severe occlusions.
