  • In this paper, dynamic response analysis of a heave compensation system is performed for offshore drilling operations based on multibody dynamics. With this simulation, the efficiency of the heave compensation system can be virtually confirmed before it is applied to drilling operations. The heave compensation system installed on a semi-submersible platform consists of a passive and an active heave compensator. The passive and active heave compensator are composed of several bodies that are connected to each other with various types of joints. Therefore, to carry out the dynamic response analysis, the dynamics kernel was developed based on mutibody dynamics. To construct the equations of motion of the multibody system and to determine the unknown accelerations and constraint forces, the recursive Newton-Euler formulation was adapted. Functions of the developed dynamics kernel were verified by comparing them with other commercial dynamics kernels. The hydrostatic force with nonlinear effects, the linearized hydrodynamic force, and the pneumatic and hydraulic control forces were considered as the external forces that act on the platform of the semi-submersible rig and the heave compensation system. The dynamic simulation of the heave compensation system of the semi-submersible rig, which is available for drilling operations with a 3,600m water depth, was carried out. From the results of the simulation, the efficiency of the heave compensation system were evaluated before they were applied to the offshore drilling operations. Moreover, the calculated constraint forces could serve as reference data for the design of the mechanical system.

  • Under nonlinear characteristics of frames, we propose the frame interpolation using GRNN to enhance the visual picture quality. By full search with block size of 128x128~1x1 to reduce blocky artifact and image overlay, we select the frame having block of minimum error and re-estimate the nonlinear moving vector using GRNN. We compare our scheme with forward(backward) motion compensation, bidirectional motion compensation when the object movement is large or the object image includes zoom-in and zoom-out or camera focus has changed. Experimental results show that the proposed method provides better performance in subjective image quality compared to conventional MCFI methods.

  • Various multimedia systems have been developed and their application areas widely proliferate. Thus, the interoperability is getting important among various networks and devices. The video transcoding is a technology to solve this interoperability problem among various coding standards. Transcoding can be defined as the conversion of one compressed coded data to another. In this paper, MPEG-2 to MPEG-4 transcoder in the spatial domain is compared with that in the DCT domain. The transcoder is very useful when a video sequence that is originally encoded for digital TV, DVD or satellite broadcasting is served in mobile environment. In order to compare two transcoders, all modules except motion compensation and down sampling are implemented identically. In addition, both transcoders do not search for motion vector. Instead, the decoded information is reused to the encoder. The experimental results show that the transcoder in the spatial domain is usually better than that in the DCT domain with respect to PSNR (Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio), bitrate and execution time.

  • This paper presents an approach for rate control by adaptively selecting macroblock modes in video coding. The problem of rate control has been investigated by many authors where quantizer level is adjustedbased on the buffer fullness. The proposed approach is different fron the previous ones [4] id that it finds the optimal decision curve rather than finding a set of the modes. Proposed algorithm extends the coding decision options for rate control to motion/no-motion compensation as well as inter/intra decisions. Instead of having a fixed motion/no-notion compensation or inter/intra decision curve, one can utilize an adaptive decision curvebased on the characteristics of input frames so that the PSNR at a given bit rate is maximized. Therefore, the proposed approach provides better rate control than simple quantizer feedback approach interns of visual quality. The curve is obtained by utilizing simulated annealing optimization technique. Thealgorithm is implemented and simulations are compared with other approaches within H.261 video codec.

  • This paper proposes a novel video coding system with rate control based on fractal algorithm To overcome the demerits of excessive amounts of coded bit generated by previous fractal coding methodology. the proposed system classifies the Image into three classes such as background, motion compensation, and fractal coding area. The motion vector for motion compensation, and the fractal offset value that is difference value between the predicted offset and the least-square approximated value are coded with variable length code The decision method which determines threshold value of partitioning quadtree is applied to the bit-rate control algorithm considering the quantity of currently generated bits and fixed channel bandwidth Experimental result shows that the proposed system enhances compression ratio 1.8 times higher than previous method for the same image quality, and performs efficient rate control for fixed channel bandwidth.

  • Distributed video coding is a new video coding paradigm based on Slepian-Wolf and Wyner-Ziv's information theory Distributed video coding whose decoder exploits side information transfers its computational burden from encoder to decoder, so that encoding with light computational power can be realized. RD performance is superior than that of standard video coding without motion compensation process but still has a gap with that of coding with motion compensation process. This parer introduces basic theory of distributed video coding and its structure and then shows RD performances of DVCs whose coding style is different from each other and of a DVC as a spatial scalable video coder.

  • Advances in wireless communication and hardware technology have made it possible to manufacture high-performance tiny sensor nodes. More recently, the availability of inexpensive cameras modules that are able to capture multimedia data from the environment has fostered the development of Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks(WMSNs). WMSN supplements the a advanced technique that senses, transmits, and processes the multimedia contents upon the text based traditional wireless sensor network. Since the amount of data which the multimedia contents have, is significantly larger than that of text based data, multimedia contents require lots of computing power and high network bandwidth. To process the multimedia contents on the wireless sensor node which has very limited computing power and energy, a technique for WMSN should take account of computing resource and efficient transmission. In the paper, we propose a new image compression technique YWCE for efficient compression and transmission of image data in WMSN. YWCE introduces 4 type of technique for motion estimation and compensation based on the Resolution Scalability of Wavelet. Experimental result shows that YWCE has high compression performance with different set of 4 type.

  • Since motion estimation and motion compensation methods remove the redundant data to employ the temporal redundancy in images, it plays an important role in digital video compression. Because of its high computational complexity, however, it is difficult to apply to high-resolution applications in real time environments. If we have information about the motion of an image block before the motion estimation, the location of a better starting point for the search of an exact motion vector can be determined to expedite the searching process. In this paper, we present an adaptive motion estimation approach bated on temporal correlations of consecutive image frames that defines the search pattern and determines the location of the initial search point adaptively. Through experiments, compared with DS(Diamond Search) algorithm, the proposed algorithm is about 0.1∼0.5(dB) better than DS in terms of PSNR(Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) and improves as high as 50% compared with DS in terms of average number of search point per motion vector estimation.

  • The emerging display technology has been replaced the previous position of the CRT with the LCD. The nature of hold type display such as LCD, however, causes many problems such as motion blur and motion judder. To resolve the problems, we used frame interpolation technique which improves the image quality by inserting new interpolated frames between existing frames. In this paper, we propose a novel frame interpolation technique that uses dominant MV and variance different value in each block. At first, the proposed algorithm performs unidirectional motion estimation using blocking matching algorithm. The new frame is generated by pixel average using compared block variance or by pixel motion compensation using dominant motion vector, whether the motion estimation find the target area or not. Several experiments with the proposed algorithm shows that the proposed algorithm has better image quality than the existing bidirectional frame interpolation algorithm at the rate of about 3dB PSNR and has low complexity comparing to the unidirectional frame interpolation technique.

  • In this paper, the dynamic compliance and its compensation control of the force control system on the highly integrated valve-controlled cylinder (HIVC), the joint driver of the hydraulic drive legged robot, is researched. During the robot motion process, the outer loop dynamic compliance control is applied on the base of hydraulic control inner loop and most inner loop control are the force or torque closed loop control. While the dynamic compliance control effectiveness of outer loop can be affected by the inner loop self-dynamic-compliance. Based on this problem, the dynamic compliance series composition theory of HIVC force control system as well as the analysis of its self-dynamic-compliance is proposed. And then the paper comes up with the compliance-enhanced control, which is a compound compensation control method of dynamic compliance with multiple series branches. Finally, the experiment results indicate that the control method mentioned above can enhance the dynamic compliance of HIVC force control system observably. This provides the compensation control method of inner loop dynamic compliance for the outer loop compliance control requiring the high accuracy and high robustness for the robot.
