We developed a built-in sensor bearing to measure the rotor motion of a rolling piston type compressor for the air conditioner. Because of needs for the high efficiency and long life span of compressor, and the usage of alternative refrigerants, the operating condition of the compressor becomes more severe. The accurate measurement of the rotor motion of the compressor can contribute greatly to the design and analysis of the hydrodynamic bearing. However, it is difficult to measure accurately the shaft behavior of small compressor because of the small space for the sensor mount, high temperature and pressure of compressor, oil mixed with refrigerant, and electromagnetic noise of the motor. To overcome these difficulties, we develop the cylindrical capacitive sensor that is built in the hydrodynamic bearing and calibrate the built-in sensor bearing indirectly through measuring the oil relative permittivity. We measured the rotor motion as well as suction and discharge pressures in various conditions. The several experimental results show that the developed built-in sensor bearing can measure the rotor motion not only in steady state but also in transient state.
Recently moored offshore vessels like as FPSO(Floating Production Storage Offloading) are frequently deployed in seas for a long time. For successful operation, the motion behavior of such a vessel in waves must be clarified in advance either theoretically or experimentally. It is of particular interest to examine the behavior, when swells are superposed to seas with different incident angle. Such a situation is actually reported in some offshore oilfield. In this paper, the motion of a FPSO in irregular waves including swells is studied in time domain. Hydrodynamic coefficients and wave forces are calculated in frequency domain using three-dimensional singularity distribution method. Time memory function and added mass at infinite frequency are derived by Fourier transform utilizing hydrodynamic damping coefficients. In the process, the numerical accuracy of added mass at infinite frequency is carefully examined in association with free decay simulations. It is found from numerical simulations that swells significantly affect the vertical motion of FPSO mainly because of their longer period compared to the ordinary sea waves. In particular, the roll motion is largely amplified because the dominant period of swell is closer to the roll natural period than that of seas.

We consider a hyper-redundant system that consists of many uniform units. The hyper-redundant system has many degrees of freedom and it can accomplish various tasks. Applysing the reinforcement learning to the hyper-redundant system is very attractive because it is possible to acquire various behaviors for various tasks automatically. In this paper we present a new reinforcement learning algorithm "Q-learning with propagation of motion". The algorithm is designed for the multi-agent systems that have strong connections. The proposed algorithm needs only one small Q-table even for a large scale system. So using the proposed algorithm, it is possible for the hyper-redundant system to learn the effective behavior. In this algorithm, only one leader agent learns the own behavior using its local information and the motion of the leader is propagated to another agents with time delay. The reward of the leader agent is given by using the whole system information. And the effective behavior of the leader is learned and the effective behavior of the system is acquired. We apply the proposed algorithm to a snake-like hyper-redundant robot. The necessary condition of the system to be Markov decision process is discussed. And the computer simulation of learning the locomotion is demonstrated. From the simulation results we find that the task of the locomotion of the robot to the desired point is learned and the winding motion is acquired. We can conclude that our proposed system and our analysis of the condition, that the system is Markov decision process, is valid.
Tidal current power is one of the energy sources of the ocean. Electricity can be generated by converting the flow energy of the current into the rotational energy of a turbine. Unlike tidal barrage, tidal current power does not require dams, which have a severe environmental impact. A floating-type tidal current power device can reduce the expensive support and installation cost, which usually account for approximately 41% of the total cost. It can also be deployed in relatively deep water using tensioned wires. The dynamic behavior of a floater and turbine force are coupled because the thrust and moment of the turbine affect the floater excursion, and the motion of the floater can affect the incoming speed of the flow into the turbine. To maximize the power generation and stabilize the system, the coupled motion of the floater and turbine must be extensively analyzed. However, unlike pile-fixed devices, there have been few studies involving the motion analysis of a moored-type tidal current power device. In this study, the commercial program OrcaFlex 10.1a was used for a time domain motion analysis. In addition, in-house code was used for an iterative calculation to solve the coupled problems. As a result, it was found that the maximum mooring load of 200 kN and the floater excursion of 5.5 m were increased by the turbine effect. The load that occurred on the mooring system satisfied the safety factor of 1.67 suggested by API. The optimum mooring system for the floating tidal current power device was suggested to maximize the power generation and stability of the floater.
The Stewart platform is one example of a motion simulator which generates 6 DOF motion in space by 6 actuators connected in parallel. The present SISO controllers are designed to track displacement command of each actuator computed from reference 6 DOF motion of platform by Stewart platform inverse kinematics. But this type of control can't cope with external load variation, geometric configuration of motion simulator, and different dynamic behavior of 6 DOF motion. In this paper, a multivariable controller using H- optimal control theory is designed for linerized simulator model with each actuator driving force as control input and platform 6 DOF motion as measured output. Nonlinear simulation result of the H$_{\infty}$ MIMO controller is not satisfied in steady-state characteristics. But the proposed H$_{\infty}$ + PI control scheme shows acceptable performance.e.e.
The deformation and dynamic behavior mechanism of submerged shell-like lattice structures with membranes are in principle of a non-conservative nature as circulatory system under hydrostatic pressure and disturbance forces of various types, existing in a marine environment. This paper deals with a characteristic analysis on quasi-periodic and chaotic behavior of a circular arch under follower forces with small disturbances. The stability region chart of the disturbed equilibrium in an excitation field was calculated numerically. Then, the periodic and chaotic behaviors of a circular arch were investigated by executing the time histories of motion, power spectrum, phase plane portraits and the Poincare section. According to the results of these studies, the state of a dynamic aspect scenario of a circular arch could be shifted from one of quasi-oscillatory motion to one of chaotic motion. Moreover, the correlation dimension of fractal dynamics was calculated corresponding to stochastic behaviors of a circular arch. This research indicates the possibility of making use of the correlation dimension as a stability index.
To position precision machines accurately, linear motion (LM) guides having rolling elements can be used. For ultra-accurate positioning control of the precision machines, the understanding of the dynamic behavior of the LM guide at the macro and/or micro scales is most critical, but the research on this subject is rare. The objective of the present research is to observe the vibration phenomena of the LM guide. Bails are used as the rolling elements in this work. Several experiments show the nonlinear characteristics of the LM guide such as hysteresis behavior and force-dependent natural frequencies phenomena.
The aerostat dynamic equation of motion has been built including the tether cable dynamic effects. A numerical program to solve the derived equation of motion has been developed. The dynamic motion of the 32m aerostat has been analyzed under discrete gust and continuous turbulence. The aerostat behaviors under discrete gust which represents a deterministic approach for determining design loads for manned aircraft are solved to verify the effect of aerostat mechanical properties on the aerostat dynamic behavior. Continuous turbulences are simulated for each given altitude, translational mean wind velocity and gust intensity. Dynamic behaviors of the 32m aerostat are simulated for each continuous turbulence conditions. Translational and vertical velocity and pitching behavior and tether reaction force are monitored for each simulation.
The topic of anomaly detection is one of the emerging research themes in computer vision, computer interaction, video analysis and monitoring. Observers focus attention on behaviors that vary in the magnitude or direction of the motion and behave differently in rules of motion with other objects. In this paper, we use this information and propose a system that detects abnormal behavior by using simple features extracted by optical flow. Our system can be applied in real life. Experimental results show high performance in detecting abnormal behavior in various videos.
