The present study was carried out from Sept. 5th to Oct. 3rd, 1983. A total of 81 hospital I zed children and their mothers were investigated and 95 normal elementary school children and their mothers as control group were surveyed The general fearfulness of children and the emotional anniety of their mothers were measured through questionaire by using Geer's FSS-Ⅱscale and Spielberger's STAI scale, respectively. The results were analyzed by computer using S.P.S.S. program and summarized as follows: 1. The emotional anxiety of the mothers of hospitalized children was greater than that of normal children's mothers. (P=0.000). 2. The general fearfulness of hospitalized children was greater than that of normal children (p=0.000) 3. The general fearfulness of hospitalized children varied with children's age and sex, mother's age and mother's experience of hospitalization. a) The general fearfulness of the hospitalized children at the age of 7∼9 was greater than that of the age 10∼12. (P=0.020) b) Girl's scored greater fearfulness than boys. (p=0.037) c) The younger mother's age resulted in the higher children fearfulness. (P= 0.0059). d) When the mothers did not have experience of hospitalization, the children's fearfulness was high. (P=0.014) 4. The anxiety-state of hospitalized children's mother was proportionally reacted to their anxiety-trait. (r=0.694, p=0.000) 5. The relationship between mother's emotional anxiety and their hospitalized children's general fearfulness failed to show statistical significance. (r= 0.1184, P>0.05). These results indicated that the general fearfulness of hospitalized children was affected by environmental factors beside mother's emotional anxiety. An extensive study on the factors influencing the general fearfulness of hospitalized children is needed.

Wives who witnessed violence between both parents' tended to receive more physical violence from their husbands than those who did not witness such events. In addition, wives who did not experience childhood violence but at the same time witnessed interparental violence tended to receive more physical violence from their husbands than those who did not witness such events. Husbands who experienced childhood violence from their mother and both parents and husbands who witnessed their father's violence toward their mother tended to be more violent towards their children than those who did not experience such events. Wives who experienced childhood violence from their mother and father and wives who witnessed violence between both parents tended to be more violent towards their children than those who did not experience such events. These results partially support that the transmission of family violence across generations and show the differential effects of gender and the violent parent's gender on family violence.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the experience of the mother-daughter relationship among middle-aged women in depth through the process of admission to nursing home facilities of their dementia mother. For the purpose, 8 middle-aged women whose dementia mothers were admitted to nursing care facilities were selected as research subject, and data collection was carried out through individual interviews. As a result of this research based on the phenomenological method of Colazzi, 3 categories, 6 sub-categories, and 17 subject bundles were derived. Research results can be summarized as follows: First, the mother-daughter relationship was dramatically reversed in the process of mother's admission to the nursing care facilities. Second, in the process of dementia mother's admission to the nursing care facilities, it was confirmed that daughters rather than sons were in an independent position regarding care and management. Third, in the process of dementia mother's admission to the nursing care facilities, it turned out that the entire family experiences depression, anxiety, and feeling of loss due to a sudden change in mother-daughter relationship as well as further transformation in family relationship, suggesting that there is a need to operate education or consultation programs for the family members to help them accommodate and deal with the sudden change.

  • The present study attempted to analyze the influence of the mother's demographic characteristics and knowledge on oral health as well as dental care behaviors on her practice of using dental care institutions. A self-report survey was conducted among 172 mothers of children aged 5-6 attending on three preschools located in Daegu metropolitan city. Statistical analysis was conducted using the SAS 8.01 with $X^2$-test, t-test and logistic regression. The obtained results were as follows: 1. No significant association was found among the demographic characteristics of the mother, her past experience as well as the purpose of using dental care institutions. 2. There was significant relationship between the mother's knowledge and behavior concerning oral health and her past experience of using dental care institutions; the mothers having a higher level of knowledge and who thought they themselves didn't have healthy teeth and gum tended to have more visits to dental care institutions(pE0.05). There was also significant relationship between their purpose and their actual practice of using dental care institutions: the mothers having a higher level of knowledge and who thought their own oral health was good tended to visit dental institutions more for the preventive purpose than for treatments(pE0.05). 3. As a result of logistic regression, the variables formed as models were their knowledge on oral health and their values for oral health. The standardized coefficients for the two variables were -0.19 and 0.19, respectively. For the mother's purpose of visiting dental care institutions, the variables formed as models were their knowledge on oral health and their values for oral health. The standardized coefficients for the two variables were -0.40 and -0.37, respectively. The relative contributions of the two variables to the mother's practice of using dental care institutions were on the similar level.
