  • Bottom ash (BA) has different macro- and micronutrients such as B, Mo, Fe, Ca, and Mg, providing useful resources for plant growth and soil quality. The objective of this study was to evaluate the applicability of artificial top-soil treated with BA in park area as a vegetation base material, especially for turfgrass growth. Collected BA was mixed with peat moss and clay at the ratio of 70:10:20 (w/w). In order to evaluate the park quality and turfgrass growth in park area, the artificial soil was applied with BA along with the control or without BA. Result showed that exchangeable K and P were increased by $11.4mg\;kg^{-1}$ and $163mg\;kg^{-1}$, respectively, compared to the control soil when the artificial soil was treated with BA. Microbial population and enzyme activity (Acid-phosphatase, APA) in artificial soil having BA also increased as 2 times and 10%, respectively, compared to the control soil. Comparing turfgrass growth and yield between general soil and artificial soil, about 2 times higher plant yield (fresh weight) was observed as artificial soil was applied comparing to general soil. Furthermore, nutrient concentration in turfgrass was averaged as 0.440% for $P_2O_5$, 0.456% for CaO, 1.198% for $K_2O$ and 0.188% for MgO that all values are higher than general soil (0.323% for $P_2O_5$, 0.416% for CaO, 0.610% for $K_2O$ and 0.173% for MgO). Application of BA can be useful for vegetation base material in park site.

  • Most of the stone cultural properties is exposed to the weathering factor(rain, windetc.), so the shelter is constructed for reduction of its direct effect. But the shelter is indicated some problems that inharmoniousness of the surroundings, in section disturbance for insufficiency of light, the loss about the value of cultural properties and so on. So we have investigated on environmental condition (temperature, relative humidity, wind etc.) at the Standing Stone Buddhist Triad in Bae-ri, Gyeongju and Rock-carved Triad Buddha in Seosan because check the effect of the shelter. As the result, the Standing Stone Buddhist Triad in Bae-ri, Gyeongju is located a pine wood and a lot of bamboo grow naturally in nearing. Environmental difference on inside and outside of the shelter is not found because opened on all sides. But there is so dim for the direction of the sunlight that can't see the Standing Stone Buddhist. The base rock of Rock-carved Triad Buddha in Seosan well develop with crack and break, and the vegetation(trees, moss, lichen etc.) grow naturally in surroundings. Environmental difference on inside and outside of the shelter is found because closed on all sides and opened the front gate only inspection time. Inside of the shelter was too calm(air-velocity not detected) and humid(over 75%RH). Also the surface is occurred the dew(at 2-4 pm) and the efflorescence for effect of the water(rain, dew etc.). Besides the head of the central Buddhist is so dangerous for crack.

  • QoE is defined as a quality perceived by users on a certain service. However, standard method to measure voice QoE(MOS) has been developed, but no standard method to measure video QoE has been defined. In this paper, we propose an efficient algorithm to measure video QoE s automatically for IPTV services. The proposed method selects candidate scenarios that affect the users' MOS directly, and derives weight factors for the selected scenarios. With the weight factors for the scenarios, video QoE value is calculated. For the validation of the proposed algorithm, we made degraded videos reflecting the parameters. With the degraded videos, by comparing the user perceived MOSs with the video QoEs derived by the proposed algorithm, we show that the two values are highly correlated each other.

  • Rock materials of the Stone Lantern in the Gwanchoksa temple was composed of dark grey granodiorite. This Stone Lantern is partly structural distortion as S-shape, especially, rocks of the upper supports and under the roof materials were highly deterioration due to the surface exfoliation, and strong secondary contaminations owing to the discoloration by oxidation of inserted iron plates between the rock properties, and white grey to dark black contaminants along the rain path way. Rock surface of the Stone Lantern occurred as partly green patches because of coated by algae, lichen and moss. This biological problems are need for cleaning and treatments. The Stone Lantern have to be considered to conservation method that can reduce weathering factors with long-term monitoring about environmental change for structural stability, surface degradation and mechanical weathering. Materials of the Stone Lantern and basement rocks of the area are consisted of same petrogenetic granodiotite based on occurrences, petrological and geochemical characteristics.

  • To determine the use of waste materials as root zone soil mixtures for turfgrass culture, the effects of paper mill sludge and briquet ash on physical and chemical properties of soil and growth of turfgrasses were examined. Three turfgrass species of zoysiagrass(Zoysia japonicaSteud.). kentycky bluegrass(Poa pratensis L. 'Ram I') and creeping bentgrass(Agrostis panistris Huds 'Persucross') were cultured in 32cm diameter plastic pots containing various soil mixtures. The basic ingredients used for mixtures included sand(SD), field soil(SL), paper mill sludge(PS), sphagnum peat moss(PM) and briquet ash(BA). Seven combinations using these ingreients were mixed in different percentage by volume as follows: SD+SL+PM(80:10.10), SH+SL+PS(80:10:10), SD-PM(80:20), SD+PS (80:20), SD+BA(80:20), SD+BA+PM(60:20:20) and SD+BA+PS(60:20:20). 1. Paper mill sludge showed pH of 6.6, more than 30% of organic matter content, and higher concentrations of total N, P, k, Ca, Mg and CEC. Bulk density, fild moisture capacity and electrical conductivity of soil mixtures were increased by the comimation of 10~20% PS by volume. 2. Briquet ash showed pH of 8.0, and higher levels of P, k, Ca and Mg than those of field soiks. Bulk density, field moisture capacity and hardenss of soil mixtures were increased but vertical water flow rate and electrical conductivity were decreased by the combination of 20% BA by volume. 3. Phytotoxic effects of PS and BA on growth of turfgrasses were not found. Shoot growth of all three species was higher in soil combination of SD+BA+PS than that of SD+SL+PM added with fertilizer. However, root growth was better in soil mixtures combined with PM. Soil mixtureomposed of 60% SD, 20% BA and 20% PS by volume was most effective on growth of all three species. 4. Paper mill sludge resulted in higher N level in the leaf tissue. The contents of heavy metals such as Cd and Ph did not vary significantly among soil mixtures and species. However, the Mn level was 2~3 times higher in plants growh in mixtures containing PM compared with others, and especially it was higher in creeping bentgrass than other species.

  • Two species of Syrrhopodon [S. japonicus (Besch.) Broth. and S. armatus Mitt.] were newly recorded from Jeju Island. S. japonicus was found on a rock covered with fine soil on the Che-oreum Volcano. This species is clearly distinguished from other species of the genus by its plants to 40 mm long, leaves bordered with several rows of short cells, and the margins at the leaf shoulders being regularly serrate. Syrrhopodon armatus was found on tree bark on Seopseom islet. It differs morphologically from other species of the genus in terms of its plant at 10 mm long, leaves bordered with one to several rows of linear and hyaline cells, leaves with spinous teeth at the shoulders. We propose new Korean names for these two species: 'Seon-o-reum-i-kki' and 'Jag-eun-seon-o-reum-i-kki,' respectively, which are based on their plant size and their first locations in Korea.

  • The purpose of this study is to test performances of 14 types of root barrier materials by applying testing plants and soils suitable for weather and natural features of Korea. For testing plants, Plioblastus pygmaed Mitford A. and Pyracantha angustifolia have been selected. For testing soil, mixture of pearlite and peat moss in 3:1 ratio(volume). Testing container has been fabricated with duplicated structure having inner and outer containers. And the outer container has 2 hinges on its side wall to allow opening and closing. Wet rock wool with 50mm in thickness has been inserted between inner and outer containers to allow root to penetrate through root barrier material and continue to grow. We planted 12 Plioblastus pygmaed Mitford A. and 4 Pyracantha angustifolia per one testing container. Three testing samples have been made for 1 type of root barrier material, which become a total 42 specimens. Planted testing samples have been installed within the greenhouse, which will be observed regularly for 2 years from now on. We started test from July 11, 2008 and had performed intermediate observations every month for initial 3 months. From the 3rd intermediate observation on Sept. 18, we confirmed that 6 types of root barrier materials have penetrated roots. Even though two types of them(EDPM Sheet, Polyethylene Sheet) have been generally used as root barrier materials for roof planting system, all of three testing samples have a lot of penetrated roots. This result proves that it is not reasonable to introduce testing methods of root barrier from Europe or Japan.

  • In this paper, we propose a high-performance BICS(built-in current sensor) which is fabricated in 0.8${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ single-poly two-metal process for IDDQ testing of CMOS VLSI circuit. The CUT(circuit under test) is 4-bit full adder with a bridging fault. Using two nMOSs that have different size, two bridging faults that have different resistance values are injected in the CUT. And controlling a gate node, we experimented various fault effects. The proposed BICS detects the faulty current at the end of the clock period, therefore it can test a CUT that has a much longer critical propagation delay time and larger area than conventional BICSs. As expected in the HSPICE simulation, experimental results of fabricated chip demonstrated that the proposed BICS can exactly detect bridging faults in the circuit.

  • Mites in the family Ascidae are soil dwelling predators of small insects which would have potential to be used as biological control agent. In Korea, 10 genera of 24 species were recorded in the family. During the soil acarine biodiversity study, Asca bicornis Canestrini & Fanzago, 1877 was discovered from moss habitat on Muljangori craer lake 936 m alt in Hallasan mountain in Jeju which was designated as UNESCO Biosphere reserve and World herigate site. We reports this as a new record to Korean Mesostigmata fauna, and provide the morphological description. This species has morphologically characteristic as all dorsal setae nude and needle shaped, lateral caudal projection of Z4 shaped, which are different from the con-general species of A. aphidioides.
