Ex-situ conservation of the ornamental and medicinal orchid, Coelogyne stricta, was performed by mass propagation using seed culture. Propagation stages were optimized using full- and half-strength solidified MS medium with different phytohormones. Maximum seed germination (88 ± 0.5% over 6 weeks of culture) was achieved on half-strength MS medium supplemented with 15% coconut water. Maximum shoot numbers were found on full-strength MS medium supplemented with 1 mg/L BAP, 2 mg/L Kinetin, and 10% coconut water, while the longest root was developed on full-strength MS medium with 1.5 mg/L IBA. A 2:1:1 combination of coco-peat, pine bark, and sphagnum moss was found to be a suitable potting mixture resulting in 80% seedling survivability. The cytotoxic activity of extracts of both wild plants and in vitro-developed protocorms was determined using an MTT (3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) assay on a cervical cancer cell line. The wild plant extract inhibited the growth of 41.99% of cells, showing that this extract has moderate cytotoxic activity toward cervical cancer cells.

We isolated and identified 25 unrecorded bacterial species belonging to the phylum Actinomycetota found in the Republic of Korea. Sequence comparison of 16S rRNA was performed using the NCBI BLAST and EzBioCloud database to identify 25 species, which had a 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity of >98.8% and were allocated as unrecorded species in the Republic of Korea. Among the 25 unrecorded bacterial strains, Streptomyces was the most common with nine species, followed by Leifsonia with two species. Isoptericola, Nocardioides, Dermacoccus, Sinomonas, Patulibacter, Marmoricola, Allobranchiibius, Aldersonia, Actinokineospora, Agromyces, Aeromicrobium, Cellulomonas, and Gordonia with one species each were also found. Twenty-five unrecorded species were excavated in various environments, such as tidal flats, ferns, soil, pine cones, moss, mud, wetlands, and plants. These isolates were characterized on the basis of their phylogenetic, biochemical properties, and morphological data, and species descriptions were provided.
This study was conducted to find out the adequate cutting method for propagation and the optimum treat-ing time of GA$_3$ to enhance the fruit setting of Pepino (Solanum muricatum AIT). Mixture of peat moss (50%) and vermiculite (50%) shows the best rooting for the Pepino stem cuttings. An active rooting was observed 15 days after the cuttings were treated with 1,000 ppm of NAA. Application of GA$_3$ at flowering stage was effective for fruit setting of Pepino and fruit setting was the most satisfactory when GA$_3$ was sprayed over the flowers.
Background: Laminitis is a complex and debilitating disease of horses. Numerous predisposing factors contribute to laminitis development, however the exact pathogenesis remains undetermined. Serum T4, cortisol, and histamine are components of the innate stress response and could play a causative or contributory role. Stress hormone concentrations in laminitis are largely unknown. Objective: To evaluate parameters associated with stress response in horses with laminitis, and compare these to healthy horses and horses with gastrointestinal (GI) disease. Methods: Thirty-eight adult horses presenting for non-medical conditions, GI abnormalities, or clinical laminitis were prospectively enrolled. Horses were assigned to the appropriate disease group (healthy, GI disease, and laminitis) and had blood drawn on presentation to the hospital. Samples were analyzed for plasma endogenous adrenocorticotrophic hormone (eACTH), serum cortisol, serum thyroid hormone, and plasma histamine. Results: Stress hormone concentrations were significantly different between horses in the laminitis and GI disease groups. Plasma histamine levels were highest in horses with laminitis, compared with GI disease and controls. Both horses with laminitis and GI disease had increased plasma eACTH when compared to healthy horses. Horses with GI disease had higher serum cortisol concentrations than horses with laminitis or controls. Serum T4 was lower in horses with GI disease than in horses with laminitis and controls. Conclusions: Horses with laminitis had relative increases in both plasma histamine and eACTH concentrations. Serum T4 and cortisol concentrations of horses with laminitis did not differ significantly when compared to healthy horses. The role of stress hormones in equine disease warrants further investigation.
FLASH is a blind neutral hydrogen (HI) absorption line survey, eventually targeting about 100,000 background radio continuum sources in the entire southern sky using the full 36-antenna of the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP). Our primary goal is to search for associated and intervening HI absorption lines in the intermediate redshift range 0.4 < z < 1.0. The survey aims to understand the evolution of HI gas in galaxies as well as various physical mechanisms in active galactic nuclei, such as accretion and feedback processes. In this poster, we give an overview of the FLASH survey and present the preliminary results from our first 100-hrs of pilot observations. The latest survey data covers 1,000 square degrees and is ideal for validating observation and data processing in the continuous 300MHz-width low frequency ASKAP band (700-1000MHz). One of the crucial objectives of the pilot survey is to establish the analysis methodology that will be applied to upcoming large absorption surveys in the future. We discuss our data quality validation and present some detections of associated/intervening HI absorption lines. These absorption lines allow us to trace the cold gas properties of active and normal galaxies at higher redshifts where the HI emission line is too weak to be detectable.
During screening for indigenous prokaryotic species in Republic of Korea in 2021, a total of 21 bacterial strains assigned to the phylum Bacteroidota were isolated from a variety of environmental habitats including pine cone, seaweed, soil, sea sediment, brackish water and moss. Based on the 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity value of more than 98.7% and formation of a robust phylogenetic clade with the type strain of the closest bacterial species, it was found that the 21 strains belong to independent and recognized bacterial species. There has been no official report that the identified 21 species have been isolated in Republic of Korea up to date. Therefore, 16 species in six genera of two families in the order Flavobacteriales, two species in two genera of two families in the order Cytophagales, one species in one genus of one family in the order Chitinophagales and two species in one genus of one family in the order Sphingobacteriales are proposed as unrecorded species of the phylum Bacteroidota isolated in Republic of Korea. Their Gram reaction, colony and cell morphology, basic phenotypic characteristics, isolation source, taxonomic status, strain ID and other information are described in the species descriptions.
In 2021, a total of 27 bacterial strains were isolated from soil, tree bark, moss, wetland, sea sediment, tidal flat, seawater and seaweed within Republic of Korea. Based on the analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequence (>98.7% sequence similarity), these isolates were assigned to the class Alphaproteobacteria as unrecorded species in Korea. The 27 strains were classified into the 10 families: Maricaulaceae of the order Caulobacterales; Brucellaceae, Methylobacteriaceae, Nitrobacteraceae and Rhizobiaceae of the order Hyphomicrobiales; Micropepsaceae of the order Micropepsales; Rhodobacteraceae of the order Rhodobacterales; Azospirillaceae of the order Rhodospirillales; and Erythrobacteraceae and Sphingomonadales of the order Sphingomonadaceae. There is no official report of these 27 species in Korea. Therefore, we report 27 isolates as unrecorded species, and described isolation sources, Gram-stain reactions, physiological and biochemical properties and morphologies of these strains.

This study aimed to provide basic data on current trends in floriculture through a survey. The exhibitors' purposes and items displayed at the Tokyo International Flowers & Plants Expo in 2017 were surveyed. The survey was conducted among 238 exhibitors during the exhibition period from October 11 to 13, 2017. As a result, participants came from 14 countries including Belgium, China, Colombia, Japan, Korea and France. The purposes of the majority of the surveyed exhibitors were to display cultivars (86 exhibitors, 36.3%), followed by to display merchandise, subsidiary materials and cultivation techniques. Among cultivars, pot plants accounted for the majority of the entire cultivars (54 exhibitors, 55.1%), followed by cut flowers (35 exhibitors, 35.7%), sapling, and seeds. The most of the displayed pot plants were ornamental plants (27 exhibitors, 43.5%), followed by garden trees, ground cover plants, bedding plants and succulent plants. The most of the displayed cut flowers were rose (8 exhibitors, 21.1%), followed by lisianthus, chrysanthemum and dahila. In terms of cultivation techniques, those using moss were displayed by 7 exhibitors (50%) and green-wall techniques were displayed by 6 exhibitors (42.9%). In terms of merchandise, processed products were displayed by 21 exhibitors (41.2%), followed by floral products. Therefore, the IFEX can be used as a place to understand current trends in the floriculture market.
Selaginella austrotibetica, a new spikemoss species from China, is described. The species is epipetric and was found on a moss-covered rocky cliff by a riverbank. Morphologically, it is unlike any anisosporophyllous species in the genus Selaginella. However, it resembles species of the S. sanguinolenta group, especially similar to S. sajanensis in gross morphology, except for the characters of strobilus. The molecular phylogenetic analysis clearly showed that S. austrotibetica was nested within the anisosporophyllous species clade, forming a sister relationship with the clade of S. vaginata and S. xipholepis, and distinct from the S. sanguinolenta group, including S. sajanensis. Although S. austrotibetica is sister to the clade of S. vaginata and S. xipholepis, the species can be clearly distinguished by its sparse leaves on branches, dorsal leaves that are broad-ovate, base obtuse to rounded, margin denticulate or very shortly sparsely ciliolate, and leaves that are slightly thick and shiny. Therefore, we described Selaginella austrotibetica as a new species and discuss its phylogenetic relationships within the genus Selaginella.
$Cu_{0.9}Ni_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ has been studied with Mossbauer spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. The crystal structure is found to be a cubic spinel with the lattice constant $a_0=8.386{\AA}$. The Curie temperature is determined to be $T_c=755K$ for a heating rate of 5 K/ min. The Mossbauer spectra consist of two six-line patterns corresponding to $Fe^{3+}$ at the tetrahedral(A) and octahedral(B) sites. Debye temperatures for A and B sites are found to be 568 k and 194 K, respectively. Atomic migration of $Cu_{0.9}Ni_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ begins near 350 K and increases rapidly with increasing temperature such a degree that 71% of the ferric ions as A sites have moved over to the B sites at 550 K.
