  • In this paper, we propose a bone region extraction method using a snake algorithm and a particle filter in CT image. We extract the bone outline using the snake algorithm, and extract the bone area by moving the particle filter along this outline. If other bones are in close proximity to the bone outline, the snake algorithm may not be able to extract the bone outline completely. At this time, the particle filter extracts the bone area while compensating for the error. In this paper, we compared the proposed method with the conventional morphological processing method. The result is similar when other bones are not close to the bone area to be extracted. However, if other bones are close to each other, The accuracy of the proposed method is higher than the conventional morphological processing method.

  • Hyperspectral imagery is used in the land cover classification with the principle component analysis and minimum noise fraction to reduce the data dimensionality and noise. Recently, studies on the supervised classification using various features having spectral information and spatial characteristic have been carried out. In this study, principle component bands and normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI) was utilized in the supervised classification for the land cover classification. To utilize additional information not included in the principle component bands by the hyperspectral imagery, we tried to increase the classification accuracy by using the NDVI. In addition, the extended attribute profiles(EAP) generated using the morphological filter was used as the input data. The random forest algorithm, which is one of the representative supervised classification, was used. The classification accuracy according to the application of various features based on EAP was compared. Two areas was selected in the experiments, and the quantitative evaluation was performed by using reference data. The classification accuracy of the proposed algorithm showed the highest classification accuracy of 85.72% and 91.14% compared with existing algorithms. Further research will need to develop a supervised classification algorithm and additional input datasets to improve the accuracy of land cover classification using hyperspectral imagery.

  • The effects of in vitro culture methods on morphological development and infectivity of Strongyloides venezuelensis filariform larvae ($L_3$) to rats were investigated. A significantly higher body length was observed in $L_3$ from filter paper culture ($597.3{\;}{\pm}{\;}32.2{\;}{\mu\textrm{m}}$) than those in fecal (($509.9{\;}{\pm}{\;}35.0{\;}{\mu\textrm{m}}$) and nutrient broth culture (503.3{\;}{\pm}{\;}31.0{\;}{\mu\textrm{m}}) (P<0.05). Larval infectivity was assessed by exposing rats to 1,000 $L_3$ from each culture and worms were recovered from the lungs and small intestines. Recovery rate of these worms did not show any significant difference. A significantly greater body length of adults was recorded in those corresponding to the $L_3$ harvested from filter paper (2,777.5{\;}{\pm}{\;}204.4{\;}{\mu\textrm{m}}$) and nutrient broth culture (($2.732.5{\;}{\pm}{\;}169.8{\;}{\mu\textrm{m}}$) than those corresponding to the $L_3$ obtained from fecal culture (($2.600.5{\;}{\pm}{\;}172.4{\;}{\mu\textrm{m}}$) (P<0.05). Although worm fecundity and EPG counts differed among culture methods but worm burdens and course of infection did not. These findings suggest that the methods of cultures have a significant effect on the morphological development of the larvae to the $L_3$ stage, but do not influence the infectivity to rats.

  • This paper proposes a fast and efficient method to extract the skin and bone automatically in CT images. First, the images were smoothed by applying an anisotropic diffusion filter to remove noise. The whole body was then detected by thresholding, which was set automatically. In addition, the contour of the skin was segmented using morphological operators and connected component labeling (CCL). Finally, the bone was extracted by iterative thresholding.

  • The most part of the faculty drop a trouble and damage of machine equipment even if whatever cause they break out take place at local and trifling place and the factor dominating their trouble is due to wear debris occurred in the lubricated machine moving surface. This study has been car-ried out to identify morphology of wear debris on the lubricated machine moving system by means of computer image analysis. Namely the wear debris contained in lubricating oil extracted from movable machine equipment will be filtered through membrane filter(void diameter 0.45${\mu}m$) and will be analyzed with its data information such as 50% volume diameter aspect roundness and reflectivity. Morphological characteristic of wear debris is easily distinguished by four shape parameters it is necessary to divide small class of every 100 wear debris in total wear particles in order to distinguish morphological characteristic of wear debris more easily by computer image analysis. We are sure that operation condition diagnosis of the lubricated machine moving surfaces is possible by computer image analysis.

  • It can be effect on diagnosis of hydraulic machining system to analyze working conditions with shape characteristics of wear debris in a lubricated machine. But, in order to predict and estimate working conditions, it is need to analyze the shape characteristics of wear debris and to identify. Therefor, if shape characteristics of wear debris is identified by computer image analysis and the neural network, it is possible to find the cause and effect of moving condition. In this study, wear debris in the lubricant oil are extracted by membrane filter, and the quantitative value of shape characteristics of wear debris we calculated by the digital image processing. This morphological informations are studied and identified by the artificial neural network. The purpose of this study is In apply morphological characteristics of wear debris to prediction and estimation of working condition in hydraulic driving systems.

  • This paper describes a procedure extracting feature vector of a target cell more precisely in the case of identifying specified cell. The classification of object type is based on feature vector such as area, complexity, centroid, rotation angle, effective diameter, perimeter, width and height of the object So, the feature vector plays very important role in classifying objects. Because the feature vectors is affected by noises and holes, it is necessary to remove noises contaminated in original image to get feature vector extraction exactly. In this paper, we propose the following method to do to get feature vector extraction exactly. First, by Otsu's optimal threshold selection method and morphological filters such as cleaning, filling and opening filters, we separate objects from background an get rid of isolated particles. After the labeling step by 4-adjacent neighborhood, the labeled image is filtered by the area filter. From this area-filtered image, feature vector such as area, complexity, centroid, rotation angle, effective diameter, the perimeter based on chain code and the width and height based on rotation matrix are extracted. To prove the effectiveness, the proposed method is applied for yeast Zygosaccharomyces rouxn. It is also shown that the experimental results from the proposed method is more efficient in measuring feature vectors than from only Otsu's optimal threshold detection method.

  • Terretial LiDAR surveying is highly useful for maintenance of civil facilities as it can easily detect the temporal deformation of structures or topography. However, for river facilities such as levess, it is difficult to detect the deformation of the topography or structure under vegetations due to the influence of vegetation. Vegetation filters can be divided into color filters and morphological filters. In this study, combined filters with color and morphology are developed to improve the accuracy of vegetation filters. 8 color filters, 6 morphological filters, and 4 combined filters are applied to the vegetation removal on the embankment slope, and their accuracy and calculation time are compared. Color filters show a short calculation time, but the accuracy was low in the vegetation area. Morphological filters show high accuracy in the vegetation area, but low accuracy in places with severe local topographical changes such as heavy rocks. Combined filters also show a tendency similar to morphological filters, but in the case of ExGGM, the accuracy is excellent in both the vegetation and rock area. Considering the accuracy and calculation time, the combined filter ExGGM is suitable for general cases, and the shape filter GrMIn or the complex filter ExGISL is suitable for cases where the local topographical change is not severe.

  • This study was carried out to prepare high porosity pulp for oil and air filter media from commercial grade NBKP with 6 - 20% NaOH treatment. The fiber width of NBKP remarkably decreased by NaOH pretreatment. The air permeability of the test sheet prepared from alkali-pretreated NBKP increased with increasing NaOH concentration up to 15%. The burst factor was greatly decreased by alkali pretreatment. By 15 - 20% NaOH pretreatment of NBKP, it could be possible to prepare a high porosity pulp. It seems that the high porosity of the pulp was due to a strong swelling and a great change of the cellulose crystalline lattice from cellulose I to cellulose II with NaOH treatment of NBKP. The study suggested that alkali- pretreated NBKP could be used for manufacturing oil and air filter media.
