Hatching Rate and Larval Viability of Cultured Marine Fish Exposed to Water-soluble Fraction of Kuwait Crude Oil during Egg Development (난발생중 원유의 수용성 성분에 노출된 해산 양식어류 수정란의 부화율 및 자어의 생존능력)

  • Exposure experiments during the egg development were conducted to assess the influences of 5 different concentrations (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100%) of water-soluble fraction (WSF) of Kuwait crude oil on the eggs and larvae of black seabream (Acanthopagrus schlegeli), red seabream (Pagrus major) and olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus). All experiments were triplicated. Hatching time and hatching rate were examined on the eggs. The median lethal time ($LT_{50}$), morphological abnormality and swimming activity (swimming frequency and speed) of larvae were also investigated. The time and rate of egg hatching were not significantly influenced by WSF on the eggs of the fishes. The larvae exposed to WSF during the egg development were also not significantly influenced on the $LT_{50}$ and swimming activity. But the higher morphological abnormalities of notochord were observed from the larvae in 100% WSF exposure.

Morphological Study on the Embryonic Development of the Pineal Recess and Follicles in the Korean Pheasant(Phasianus colchicus karpowi) (한국산 꿩에서 송과샘오목과 소포의 발달에 관한 형태학적 연구)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the embryonic developmental changes of the pineal gland during incubating period in the Korean pheasant. The pheasant embryos and fetuses were killed after 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15, 19 and 23 (hatching) days of incubation. The morphological characteristics of a pineal gland were determined in all embryos and fetuses using the whole - mount technique, light microscopy and morphometry. The time of the first apparition of the pineal anlage, as a derivative of the roof of the third ventricle, was fixed at 3 days of incubation. The pineal vesicles appeared as solid mammilliform projections, which subsequently presented a central lumen, at 4 days of incubation. The pineal parenchyma was composed of the tubular pineal recess, the lobules surrounded with septum originating from the capsule and the follicles possessed central lumen at 23 days of incubation. The length, width and area of the pineal gland were increased markedly at 9 and 15 days of incubation. These results suggest that the pineal recess has an important role in the pineal development after hatching.

Inheritance and expression of transgene in SOD2-Transgenic petunia descendants and their morphological traits

  • This study was conducted to determine the inheritance and expression of transgene in descendants ($T_1\;to\;T_2$ generation) of SOD2-transgenic petunia by PCR and RT-PCR analysis. The trangene was segregated as Mendelian inheritance pattern (3:1 or 1:0) in most of $T_1\;and\;T_2$ generation lines. Transgenic homozygous lines were obtained in T2 generation. It was identified that the transgene expressed stably in examined all plants of 6 $T_2$ lines. The representative morphological traits (plant height, flower diameter, and flower color) of $T_2$ plants were compared with those of non-transgenic plants.

Morphological and Chromosomal Charateristics of the Three Introduced Cyprinid Species (Cyprinidae) (도입된 잉어과 어류 3종의 외부형태 및 염색체 특징)

  • This study was carried out to obtain the basic information on morphological and chromosomal charateristics in the three species of Chinese carps (grass carp; Ctenopharyngodon idellua, bighead carp; Aristichthys nobilis, and silver carp; Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) introduced to Korea from China. C. idellua was differ from A. nobilis and H. molitrix by the number of gill rakers, scales, fin rays, body proportion. A. nobilis and H. molitrix were similar in having ventral keel and many scale number, but H. molitrix was differ from A. nobilis by the connected gill rakers and body color pattern. Diploid chromosome and arm number (fundamental number, NF) of the three species were all the same to 2n=48 and NF=84. Diploid chromosome numbers in the three species are consisted of 10 pairs of metacentric chromosome, 8 pairs of submetacentric chromosome and 6 pairs of acro and/ or telocentric chromosome. Morphological and karyological relationship of the three Chinese carps are discussed.

Morphological differences according to uterine tissue remodeling during estrus between sika deer and water deer

  • Background: Water deer and sika deer, which breed in the wild environment, are known to have similar reproductive physiology mechanisms. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the differences in uterine development between water deer and sika deer during estrus. Methods: MMPs and uterine development-related factors were analyzed and morphological differences were compared in the uterus of sika deer captured near Russia near Korea and water deer captured in the wild in Korea. Results: In terms of morphological differences in the uterus, the glands that form villus within the endometrium of the water deer were newly developed, and the formation of small glands was high, but the villus and glands of the sika deer were expanded, and the stroma zone in the myometrium was higher than that of the water deer. Development has increased. Additionally, the expression of PAPP-A and VEGF factors was increased in the endometrium of water deer than in sika deer, but the actions of MMPs were increased in sika deer. Conclusions: As a result of this study, there is a significant difference in the development of glands in the endometrium of water deer and sika deer during estrus, and it is believed that there is a significant difference in the development of the uterus due to the physiological effects of estrus between water deer and sika deer. Additionally, it is believed that there will be differences in the timing at which pregnancy can be decided.

In Vitro Fertilization and Development of In Vitro Matured Porcine Oocytes by Morphologically Normal Sperm Ratio of Epididymal Sperm and Frozen-Thawed Ejaculated Sperm (정소상체 미부정자와 동결 융해된 사출정자의 형태학적 정상정자 비율이 체외성숙된 돼지난자의 수정 및 발달에 미치는 영향)

  • The objective of this study was to examine the fertilization and embryonic development rates of porcine oocytes matured in vitro according to the morphological normality of epididymal sperm in porcine IVF. The results obtained in this experiment were summarized as follows : 1. When the ratio of morphological normality of epididymal sperm was divided into the three groups with $\leq$ 10%, 10-30% and $\geq$ 50%, the fertilization and embryonic devel-opment rates of 능50% group (64%. 26%) w were significantly higher than those of other two groups ($\leq$10%: 27%, 6% and 10-30%: 36%. 5%) (p$\leq$50% group of morphologically normal epididymal sperm was adjusted to 100% (5 x 10$^5$ cells/ml), the fertilization a and development rates (63%, 27%) of epidymal sperm were similar to those of frozen-thawed ejaculated sperm (56%, 35%). 3. Also, when the fertilization and development rates of epididymal sperm were analyzed according to the oocyte : sperm ratio (1:6000, 1: 6650, 1: 7700, 1: 10000), the fertilization and development rates indicated high, in 1:6000 (68%, 32%) and 1:6650 (89%, 31%), the ratio of oocyte: sperm. Therefore, when the percentage of morphological normality of epididymal sperm is more than 50, the embryonic development a can be obtained similar to that of frozen thawed ejaculated sperm. Also, these result suggested that the morphological evaluation of normal sperm in porcine IVF using epididymal sperm sho비d be prerequisite for the more effective embryonic developm ment.

Morphological Characteristics of Hyphal Interaction between Grifola umbellata and its Companion Fungus

  • Morphological characteristics of hyphal interaction between Grifola umbellata (Pers. Ex Fr.) Pilat and its companion fungus which related to sclerotia formation from hyphae were investigated by external observations, light microscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). External observations showed that a dense antagonism line was formed by both G. umbellata and companion fungus after their hyphae contacted each other in dual culture. Many hyphal strands emerged on the colony of G. umbellata and differentiated to sclerotia from where hyphal strands crossed. Light microscope observations revealed the process of antagonism line formation. Mature antagonism with structural differentiation, was composed of three main layers: the rind, the rind underlayer and the hypha layer. TEM observations showed that after colonies hyphal contact, a series of reactions always occurred in both G. umbellata and companion fungus. Cells in the center of antagonism line were dead. Cells of G. umbellata adjacent to the antagonism line were usually large and hollow, with unilateral thickened wall, whereas those of companion fungus were empty, with thin or thick wall. Both hyphal interaction at the antagonism line may be one of the main reasons for sclerotia of G. umbellata differentiation from hypha.

Accumuation Pattern of Nitrate-Nitrogen in Sorghum And Maize Plants as Affected by Morphological Characteristics And Environmental Temperature (Sorghum 및 옥수수의 형태적 특성과 재배온도가 Nitrate-Nitrogen 축적에 미치는 영향)

  • Sorghum cv. Pioneer 93 1, sorghum-sudangrass hybrid cv. Sioux and maize plant cv. Blizzard were assayed for toxic concentrations of nitrate-nitrogen ($NO_3$-N) and their relationship to morphological characteristics and environmental temperature in a field and phytotron trial. In the phytotron, sorghum and maize plants ranging from emergence to heading stage, were grown under different day/night temperatures of 30125, 25/20,28/18 and 1818 degree C. Nitrate-nitrogen in sorghum and maize plants was accumulated mainly in stems. Therefore nitrate concentration in the young plants was increased as development of stalks advanced and was highest at the stage of 3-4 leaves, when the plants had a leaf weight ratio 0.78-0.80 g/g plant weight. However, nitrate concentrations of the plant decreased as morphological development progressed, especially from the stage of growing point differentiation. Correlation coefficients showed a positive correlation of nitrate concentration with leaf weight ratio, leaf area ratio and specific leaf area, while plant height, dry matter percentage and absolute growth rate showed a negative association with TEX>$NO_3$-N ($P{\le}0.1$%). Cyanogenic glycosides, total nitrogen and crude protein were close associated with nitrate accumulation, and positively significant ($P{\le}0.1$%). High temperature over 30/25^{\circ}C.$ for 3 weeks increased N-uptake and dry matter accumulation, but reduced nitrate concentration. Under cold temperature below 18/8^{\circ}C.$ concentration of nitrate-N was increased in spite of its limited nitrogen uptake and plant growth.

  • Current humanoid robot technology has a problem of lacking opened methodology about mechanisms of analysis, design, implementation, and integration for robot development but is focused only on manufacture robot and implementation of technology. In this paper, to overcome problems of humanoid robots that have been shown since and for construction of new structure which satisfy the concept of opening, networking, and modularization that is the development direction of future robot, we proposed morphological and neurological model of human arm and design method of humanoid robot arm based on the each joint design and kinematics model.

  • The author studied the open-bite of 16 males and 25 females aged 20-23 using profile cephalometric roentgenogram and compared with normal occlusion to determine the morphological pattern of open-bite. The following results are obtained. 1) Open-bite patients showed remarkable vertical development of jaws than normal occlusion. 2) Females indicated conspicuous characteristics than males in open-bite. 3) Anterior teeth disclosed low positions in open-bite patients. 4) Mandible revealed obvious morphological features than maxilla in open-bite patients.
