In-decorated NiO Nanoigloos Gas Sensor with Morphological Evolution for Ethanol Sensors

  • We investigated the facile and effective strategy for sensitive and selective $C_2H_5OH$ sensors based on the In-decorated NiO nanoigloos. The In-decorated NiO nanoigloos is fabricated by RF sputtering using 750 nm-diameter polystyrene beads using a soft-template. The morphological evolution based on the Van der Drift model was generated through a heterojunction between In metal and NiO, resulting in a pyramidal rough surface. Upon decorating the In on the NiO surface, high sensitivity and selectivity to $C_2H_5OH$ were observed, and gas sensing mechanism was demonstrated by a high surface-to-volume and double Schottky barrier. We are confident that the method presented in this study will have a significant impact on the fabrication of effective nanostructures and their application for the gas sensors.

  • In 2017, Talaromyces variabilis was isolated during a survey of fungal diversity in field soils in Korea. This isolate was described based on its morphological and molecular characteristics and it was identified molecularly using the partial 18S-ITS1-5.8S-ITS2-28S rDNA region and calmodulin (CaM)-encoding gene sequence data. Thus, this study reported morphological and multigene sequence characterization of T. variabilis.

Morphological and Molecular Characterization of Pseudocercospora chionanthi-retusi Causing Leaf Spot on Chionanthus retusus in Korea

  • Leaves of Chionanthus retusus were found to be damaged by leaf spot disease associated with a fungus in Iksan, Korea. Leaf spots were angular to irregular, vein-limited, scattered, 1-8 mm diameter, brownish-gray to dark brown when dry, with heavy fructification. The pathogen causes premature defoliation of C. retusus plant and was identified as Pseudocercospora chionanthi-retusi based on morphological and molecular-phylogenetic analyses. The phylogenetic tree was constructed using multi-locus DNA sequence data of partial actin (actA), partial translation elongation factor 1-alfa (tef1), partial DNA-directed RNA polymerase II second largest subunit (rpb2) genes, and internal transcribed spacer regions. Current study provides detail morphological description of P. chionanthi-retusi on C. retusus in Korea, with supports of phylogenetic analysis and pathogenicity test.

Two new records of Laurencia decussata and L. pacifica from Korea based on morphological structures and molecular data

  • Laurencia is a red algal genus that was described by J.V. Lamouroux in 1813. The main characteristics of this genus have been known as the presence of four pericentral cells in an axial segment, secondary pit connections between adjacent epidermal cells, and the presence of corps en cerise in both epidermal and trichoblast cells. Additionally, the tetrasporangia are arranged in a parallel manner, and male branches feature terminal cup-shaped spermatangial pits. Currently, sixteen Korean Laurencia species have been reported based on their morphological characteristics. In this study, Laurencia decussata and L. pacifica have been added as new records to the Korean algal flora based on a combination of morphological observations and molecular analyses of rbcL sequences. Laurencia decussata has expanded from Australia and New Zealand to Korea, while the distribution of L. pacifica has expanded from USA and Mexico to Korea.

Morphology and molecular phylogeny of harmful dinoflagellate Pseudocochlodinium profundisulcus from Korean coastal area

  • The morphological features of germling cells were examined to identify an unspecified resting cyst (described as Cochlodinium cf. polykrikoides-like resting cyst) in the Korean coastal area. LSU rRNA gene sequences were also obtained from a strain established from the germling cells. The resting cysts isolated from Korean coastal sediment were characterized as being brown in color, having a large dark-red body, and fibrous lobed ornaments. The germling cells were ellipsoidal with an irregular outline and had an open comma-shaped ASC (apical structure complex), a wide and deep cingulum, and a deep sulcus. These morphological features were consistent with those of previously described harmful dinoflagellate Pseudocochlodinium profundisulcus. The molecular phylogeny revealed that the germling cells and P. profundisulcus were conspecific. Based on these morphological and phylogenetic data, this study documents the occurrence of P. profundisulcus in a Korean coastal area for the first time.

본초 제조 공정의 DB화를 위한 형태소 분석 연구 - 숙지황 제조 공정을 중심으로 - (Morphological Analysis Study for the Development of DB on the Medicinal Herbs Manufacturing Process - with focus on the manufacturing method of Rehmanniae radix -)

  • Objectives : Treatment method using drugs has already been used in Korean medicine for a long time. Moreover, database has been developed and utilized for more efficient management of the treatments that use drugs. Most of such database related to knowledge on drugs is composed of origin, efficacy, temperament, ingredients and examples of application of the standardized drugs. Communication with knowledge information in other specialized areas is also accomplished by using the efficacies and ingredients with the drugs. In this study, we aimed to make data structure of the terminologies that represent the manufacturing process of herbs. However, in spite of the fact that the manufacturing process of the drugs imparts effect on their efficacies and ingredients, details of the manufacturing processes are quite limited to simple text sentences, thereby resulting in substantially lower level of utilization and difficulties in systematic researches on various factors included in the manufacturing processes in comparison to other knowledge on drugs. Methods : This Study extracted the factors necessary in the development of database by executing morphological analysis of the manufacturing process of herbs. Results : The factors are 'Order', 'Act', 'Raw material', 'Tools', 'Supporting materials', 'Intensity', 'Duration Time', 'Interval', 'Focus', 'Repetition Number', 'Untill'. We were able to tell the difference of the manufacturing process with a simple structured query language and the factors. Conclusions : Morphological analysis of medicinal herbs manufacturing Process contributes to standardization with information of the manufacturing process. And it helps to creates a quality management system through the Database.

인체 흉추 해면골의 영역별 형태학적 및 기계적 특성 연구 (Regional Morphological and Mechanical Characteristics in the Human Thoracic Vertebral Trabecular Bones)

  • This study analyzed the regional morphological and mechanical characteristics of vertebrae by using micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) and micro finite element analysis (FEA). For the present study, the $12^{th}$ human thoracic vertebral bones (an 85-years female and a 48-years male) were used. These were scanned by using micro-CT. Structural parameters were evaluated from the acquired 20 image data for fifteen $4{\times}4mm^2$ regions (five regions in respective layers of superior, middle and inferior part) in the thoracic vertebral trabecular bones. $4{\times}4{\times}4mm^3$ cubic finite element models of each regions were created at $70{\mu}m$ voxel resolution to investigate effective modulus ($E^+$). The present study indicated that there were significant differences in morphological and elastic mechanical characteristics of each region. There are close relationship between effective modulus and structural model index (SMI) in the bone of the 48-years male and between effective modulus and bone volume fraction (BV/TV) in the bone of the 85-years female. In addition, the effective modulus of central regions is about 80% stiffer than that of lateral regions at transverse plane. These findings may be likely to explain the previous result that a change of loading distribution of the vertebral trabecular bones is caused by spinal curvature and nucleus pulpous degeneration of the intervertebral disc.

The Morphological Study of Wild and Farmed Olive Flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus): The Role of Indirect Selection within and between Populations

  • This study was conducted to analyze the difference of body types within and between wild and farmed populations of olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus using measured records of morphological traits. The results showed that surveyed traits and standard deviation were $1,355{\pm}742g$ of body weight, $48.01{\pm}7.79cm$ of total length, and $40.96{\pm}6.80cm$ of body length. Also body height, body shape index and condition factor were $17.19{\pm}3.43cm$, $9.99{\pm}0.74$ and $11.16{\pm}1.54$, respectively. As result of least squares mean and standard error for each trait assumed in this study, those of farmed population showed significantly higher than those of wild population in all traits, exclusively in total length and body length (p<0.01). Particularly, the values of the body height and the body weight of the farmed population were higher than those of the wild population in the same total length. And the phenotypic correlation coefficients of the body weight, the total length, the body length and the body height showed strong positive correlation in all populations. These result suggested that morphological differences exist in farmed and wild flounder. Therefore, introduction of wild flounder is essential for the future production to improve the body type of farmed flounder, and parental fish should be chosen by considering selection of commercially important traits in the production process.

분계분석을 이용한 한국산 갈퀴덩굴속(Galium L.) 식물의 외부형태학적 연구 (The morphological study of Galium L. (Rubiaceae) in Korea)

  • 본 연구에서는 한국산 갈퀴덩굴속(Galium L.) 18 분류군에 대하여 줄기, 잎, 꽃, 열매 등의 외부형태학적 33개의 형질에 대하여 분계분석을 실시하였다. 외부형태학적 형질을 이용한 분계분석 결과 얻어진 계통도에서 갈퀴덩굴속은 외군과 분리되어 단계통을 형성하였으며, 크게 2개의 그룹으로 구별되었다. Sect. Cymogaliae과 Sect. Leptogalium의 분류군들은 다계통군으로 확인되었으며, 나머지 절은 단계통으로 확인되었다. 한국산 갈퀴덩굴속의 속내 분류에서는 줄기의 형태와 화피편의 수, 윤생엽의 수 등은 절을 구별하는데 유용한 형질로 인식되었다. 특히, 화피편 정단이 굽어지거나 편평한 형태는 속내 절 분류에 중요한 형질로 인식되었다. 또한, 절내 분류군간의 구별에는 줄기의 털의 형태, 잎의 형태, 화피편의 색, 화서, 엽두의 모양, 열매 표피면의 털의 형태 등이 유용한 식별형질이었다. 기존의 분류 동정에 이용되었던 종자표면의 털의 형태는 속내 분류에 중요한 인식 형질이였으며 특히, 윤생엽의 수, 잎의 형태는 종 분류에 중요한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서 측정한 33개의 형태 형질 중 31개의 형질은 한국산 갈퀴덩굴속 식물의 유연관계를 파악하고 절(section) 분류 및 종 분류에 유용한 것으로 확인되었다.

SNS의 형태적 진화에 따른 이용동기 및 사용행태 차이 - 대학생의 페이스북과 인스타그램 이용을 중심으로 - (The Differences in Motivation and Usage according to Morphological evolution of SNS - Focusing on university students' use of Facebook and Instagram -)

  • 본 연구는 페이스북과 인스타그램의 형태적 차이에 따른 이용동기 및 사용행태의 공통점과 차이점을 분석하는데 그 목적이 있다. 직관적 이미지, 제한된 네트워크 등 3세대 SNS의 형태적 차별화는 SNS 연구에 있어 개별 서비스 이용자를 동질적 집단이 아닌 차별적 집단으로 인식해야 할 필요성을 제기한다. 따라서, 본 연구는 SNS 주이용 집단인 대학생 255명을 대상으로, 페이스북과 인스타그램에 대한 이용동기 및 이용동기에 따른 사용행태의 차이를 요인분석과 회귀분석을 통해 분석하였다. 연구결과, SNS 이용동기로 총 7개 요인이 도출되었으며, 페이스북과 인스타그램의 이용동기 및 이용 동기에 따른 사용행태(피드백 측면, 만족도 측면)의 차이가 밝혀졌다. 본 연구를 통해 향후 SNS의 형태적 진화에 따른 이용자의 태도변화를 예측하는데 기여함과 동시에, 형태적 속성을 기반으로 한 GUI 설계, 기업홍보 마케팅 등 관련 융복합연구로의 확대 적용을 기대한다.
