This study performed a numerical simulation to predict the development of ship waves and their propagation in the shallow water region of Gunzang New Port and to examine the stability of taut line mooring at the sea wall using the design criteria. In order to predict the propagation of ship waves based on the speeds of various ships under complicated and shallow water depths, a computer model was constructed based on the Boussinesque equation with a fixed coordinate system. Additionally, an investigation if the stability was made by applying MOSES under the environmental loadings estimated by OCIMF.

It has been developed large mooring fittings having the capacity of 160 tons and 180 tons installed on 170K LNG FSRU. The finite element analysis for the mooring fittings was carried out in order to check the structural integrity and to confirm satisfaction of the rule requirements. The 3 kinds of mooring fittings such as chock, bollard and universal fairlead are selected for FE analysis and load test. According to the FE analysis results, all the stress levels satisfied the acceptance criteria guided by the IACS UR A2, ISO standard, ship rules and OCIMF. As test results under design load, no structural defects were found.

For safe mooring and towing between the ship and port, the equipment must be designed in accordance with the relevant international regulations. However, some small shipyards and engineering companies often do not fully comprehend the core contents. Therefore, the international regulations regarding towing and mooring equipment are reviewed and the bollard and chock are newly developed based on the Mooring Equipment Guideline 4 (MEG4) standards. A bollard is a mooring equipment used to fix a mooring rope to the hull. It has two columns and is mostly used in a figure eight pattern knots under the mooring condition. The chock, which is used to change the mooring rope direction coming into the ship from outside, is manufactured using a casting with curvature. The two mooring equipment are widely used in the stern, bow, and mid-side. Owing to the increase in the size of container vessels and LNG ships, the mooring rope load has increased and the safe working load of the mooring equipment must be revised. This study summarizes and examines the results of the allowable stress method obtained using finite element analysis modelling. To consider the mesh size effect, a reasonable criteria was suggested by referring the existing class guidance. Additionally, the safe working load was verified through nonlinear collapse analysis, and the elastic region against load increments was confirmed. Furthermore, the proposed evaluation method can be used to develop similar equipment in the near future.
Mooring bollards are the mandatory facility in ports for they are the objects used to fasten the ship to its position at the berth. All the mooring bollards were installed following suggested sizes, numbers, materials and shape of installation according to Port and Fishing Design Standards. However, Korea has no management standard for use of mooring bollards to safety in ship berthing. In this research, the installation standard for mooring bollards including the holding power applied to mooring bollards in berthing was studied. Also, the performance of mooring bollards for minimum safety guarantee in berthing based on research of various specification by their sizes was analyzed. The analysis on mooring bollards was examined by each power on mooring bollards from the applied force in berthing divided into horizontal and vertical direction in order to examine the performance of domestic mooring bollards, the limit force is calculated based on detailed specification research result. As a result, the working stress according to the towing force was found to be at least 150Mpa and it was evaluated to be 60% of the limit strength. Also, by comparing each forces, the appropriateness was examined and the specification of maximum capability calculated. This performance evaluation method based on detail specification of mooring bollards will be expected to be useful to examine the appropriateness of mooring bollards for various types of vessel in berthing and to develop maintenance and management standard through the performance change evaluation referring to mooring bollard detailed specification changes.

In accordance with the development plans of Ulsan harbor, Ulsan new harbor will be contructed considering supporting Ulsan harbor as a safe berthing and departure at single buoy mooring(SBM). In this study, we used a full-mission ship handling simulator adopting 300,000 DWT VLCC manoeuvered at the planned Ulsan SBM. Five masters who have had a long experience of ship maneuvering were called to carry out the simulations, of which each scenario were tried one, completed total of 68 times. The marine traffic safety was assessed in terms of 1) the closest point of approach(CPA) to other SBM and breakwater in the vicinity and the probability of crossing the restricted area of the closest SBM and fairway limit, 2) subjective evaluation such as the mental burden and the maneuvering difficulty of shiphanders, and 3) the opinions of shiphandlers. From the result of this simulation, we have a conclusion as follows; First, because crude oil berthing angle is so small by current S-OiL Co. crude oil buoy by SK Co. No 3 crude oil buoy different view SK Co. No 3 crude oil buoy and interference of current KNOC crude oil buoy, Berthing is impossible, and Emergency departing is very dangerous too operation impossible. Second it is desirable that SK Co. No 2 and No 3 Single buoy Mooring that do different view controls position so that to be not put in straight line each other. Third, SK Co. No 1 and 2 single buoy mooring that do different view to Onsanhang berthing and departing is seized by single buoy mooring by external force ship that set sail does faith control need.

As a typoon gets into harbour, a moored ships shows erratic motions and even mooring line failures is occurred. Such troubles may be caused by harbour resonance phenomena, result in large motion amplitudes at law frequency, which is closed to the natural frequency of the moored ship. The nonlinear motions of a moored ship beside quay are simulated under external forces due to wave, current including mooring forces in time domain. The forces due to waves are obtained from source and dipole distribution method in the frequency domain. The current forces are calculated by using slow motion maneuvering equation in the horizontal plane. The wind forces are calculated from emperical formula of ABS and the mooring forces of ropes and fenders are modeled as linear spring.

To prevent accidents near the quay caused by a ship, ports are generally designed and constructed through navigation and berthing safety assessment. However, unpredictable accidents such as ship collisions with the quay or personal accidents caused by ropes still occur sometimes during the ship berthing or mooring process. Automatic mooring systems, which are equipped with an attachment mechanism composed of robotic manipulators and vacuum pads, are designed for rapid and safe mooring of ships. This paper deals with a displacement and velocity measurement system for the automatic mooring device, which is essential for the position and speed control of the vacuum pads. To design a suitable system for an automatic mooring device, we first analyze the sensor's performance and outdoor environmental characteristics. Based on the analysis results, we describe the configuration and design methods of a displacement and velocity measurement system for application in outdoor environments. Additionally, several algorithms for detecting the sensor's state and estimating a ship's velocity are developed. The proposed method is verified through some experiments for displacement and speed measurement targeted at a moving object with constant speed.

It is very important to secure the marine vessels during entire loading and off-loading operations. The environment influences on loading conditions. the western coastal area of Korea is characterized as a strong current due to a high tidal range. The tension of mooring lines varies as per the current and wave changing its magnitude during the day. A proper mooring arrangement and design of mooring line should be determined as per environment conditions. In this study, a 50,000 DWT container ship being moored is investigated numerically. The dynamic tension of mooring lines is estimated by MORA (Mooring Response Analysis) software. Environmental conditions of selected offshore terminal site are plugged as input data. The mooring line tensions are obtained for various wave frequencies per wave directions. The results demonstrate the change of tensions of lines and the allowable range of safe conditions in berthed mooring.

FPSO model tests of mooring line failure were carried out in the ocean basin at KRISO. The characteristics of the motions and mooring lines were investigated. The FPSO ship was moored using an internal turret and catenary mooring. The test model was 1/60 scale. The mooring lines were designed to satisfy the characteristics of the original mooring lines using the truncation method. The experiments were conducted under various environments: a safe wave, current and wind condition; single broken mooring line condition; and transient mode condition. The moment of the break was determined based on experimental test results. The results showed that the FPSO behavior and mooring line tensions were acceptable under the failure condition.
