New evaluation of ship mooring with friction effects on mooring rope and cost-benefit estimation to improve port safety

  • To ensure safe port operations around the world, it is important to solve mooring problems. In particular, the many ports that face open seas have difficulties with long-period waves. As a countermeasure, the installation of a breakwater is proposed for mooring safety. However, this often cannot be put into practice because of financial issues. Instead, port terminals control berthing schedules with weather forecasting. However, mooring problems remain unsolved, because of inaccurate wave forecasting. To quantify the current situation, numerical simulations are presented with ship motions, fender deflections, and rope tensions. In addition, novel simulations for mooring ropes are proposed considering tension, friction, bending fatigue, and temperature. With this novel simulation, the optimal mooring method in terms of safety and economic efficiency was confirmed. In terms of safety, the optimal mooring method is verified to minimize dangerous mooring situations. Moreover, the optimal mooring method shows economic benefits and efficiency. It can help to reinforce the safety of port terminals and improve the efficiency of port operations.

  • 본 논문에서는, 선박의 접/이안 과정을 모니터링 할 수 있는 인공지능 기반의 시스템에서 항만 작업 준비 및 선석 스케줄링 효율성 향상을 위해 계선줄 인식을 통한 접/이안 시간을 인식 하고자 한다. 기설계된 인공지능 모델의 개선을 통해 입력 이미지에서 계선줄을 추출할 수 있고, 계선줄이 선석에 도달 또는 떨어지는 시점을 인식하여 정확한 선박의 접/이안 시간을 제공할 수 있다. 개발 모델은 실환경 데이터를 이용하여 계선줄 인식이 가능함을 결과를 통해 확인하였다.

  • The influence of wave forces on the moored ship beside quay was investigated based on in-house ship mooring analysis and ship motion program in this paper. The wind and current are the general environmental factors for the mooring analysis beside quay in the mild weather. However, the weather is becoming rough, the wave phenomenon should be included in the mooring analysis. In this paper, as preliminary stages, each moored rope tension was evaluated based on wind and current environmental condition. The results were compared with those from MOSES, commercial program. In addition to this, wave forces of the ship were calculated in order to solve moored ship motion of equation. We will leave to solve this motion equation as future work.

  • SPM, which is an abbreviation of Single Point Mooring, also called as SBM(Single Buoy Mooring), is a special buoy besides the quays of the harbor for mooring ships, and is normally a 3m wide cone or cylinder shaped steel drum fixed underwater so it won't move, and is used for mooring cargo-work at outer port by laid-up ships and large crude oil carrier. The work of VLCC SPM mainly is accomplished on the open sea. On the open sea as a result of meteorological condition and the ocean wave influence, When the weather condition is get bed, peremptorily moving to the safety place, because of the gale and the billow, almost happened frequently, the pilot is unable to go on board and the tug is also unable to be used Now because of the bad weather the VLCC SPM moving to the other safety place frequently happened in the ulsan port. the construction of new harbor, it constructed many break water around SPM. So that it is necessary to propose the new standard about how to maneuvering area actually. The standard for handling ranges of the SPM operations was tested and verified by a simulation.. A Study on the Allowable Range of Overhanging Berthing at the Port of Ulsan

  • As vessels become larger and competition between ports intensifies, there has been an increase in the number of cases where vessels that exceed the available berths are berthed at the pier. Therefore, there has been an increase in the number of cases in which the bow or stern of a ship is projected and moored. The risk of overhanging berthing is that mooring safety can be compromised because it is not possible to connect the bow and stern mooring line to the ship properly. In addition, collision accidents may occur between moving vessels if the view of a vessel moving in the port is obstructed. Therefore, in this study, the simulation of mooring safety was performed according to the overhanging range in Piers No. 6 and 7 in Ulsan's main port to propose the overhanging limit and operational standards according to each ship. As a result of the assessment, 30,000 DWT bulkers are able to overhang up to 0.75B, and 50,000 DWT bulkers can overhang up to 0.50B. The results of this study are expected to be used as basic data for setting the allowable overhang limit, as well as clear usage criteria for safe unloading operations.

The Evaluation of Ship Motions in a Harbor along the Entrance Channel by Field Observation

  • Maritime transportation consists of various situations such as navigation in the ocean, ship handling at harbor entrances, cargo handling and mooring in harbors. Generally, ships are built for the purpose of currying people and materials upon the seas. In order to accomplish the mission, a ship must be built to withstand the rigors of heavy weather and waves. In particular, the safety of ship motions at the entering/departing harbor and mooring under the effects of waves is very important for ship operation from the viewpoint of marine engineering. Therefore, safety and efficiency during entrance, departure, and mooring are extremely important aspects in the evaluation of ship operations from viewpoints of ship motions. However, the ship motions near a harbor entrance are not observed or studied as much. In this paper, to evaluate the difficulty of ship operations, field observations were performed using a new observation system with high accuracy in typhoon seasons, and grasp was done concerning about the time series characteristic that ship motions change rapidly within a harbor. Namely, such observations enable the quantitative safety evaluation under the effects of waves during ships entering and departing harbors in heavy weather.

선박의 부가저항 평가를 위한 소프트 계류 모형시험 기법 연구 (A Study on Soft-Mooring Model Test Techniques for the Evaluation of Added Resistance on Ships )

  • In this study, a model test was conducted using the soft-mooring technique to evaluate the added resistance of the ship in waves. The study also examined the specific factors that should be considered during the soft-mooring test. The main purpose of soft-mooring is to prevent drifting caused by waves by providing horizontal restoring forces. However, it can also create undesired restoring forces in the vertical direction. Therefore, we examined the restoring force of the ship's 6-DOF motion based on the arrangement of the soft-mooring and the height of the mooring connection point. We also checked the corresponding resonance period and drift distance. The soft-mooring test was conducted twice, once with self-propulsion and once without self-propulsion, allowing us to review the advantages and disadvantages of each test technique. The main parameters measured in these model tests were 6DOF motion and added resistance on the ship. We compared these measurements obtained from two different techniques (with and without self-propulsion). Additionally, we also compared the measurements based on the types of measuring sensors used (2D load cells on FP, AP, and 1D load cells on each mooring line) as well as the height of the mooring connection point.

  • In order to evaluate the safety of navigation at sea and the safety of mooring ship on berthing, it is necessary that the wave and wind induced ship dynamic motion should be measured in real time domain for the validity of theoretical evaluation method such as sea-keeping performance and safety of mooring. In this paper, the basic design of sensors is discussed and some system configurations were shown. The developed system mainly consists of 4 kinds of sensors such as three dimensional accelerator, two dimensional tilt sensor, two displacement sensors and azimuth sensor. Using the this measuring system, it can be obtained the 6 degrees of freedom of ship dynamic motions at sea and on berthing such as rolling, pitching, yawing, sway, heave, surge under the external forces.

돌풍 대비용 직주 배치에 따른 계류안전성 민감도 분석 연구 (A Study on Analysis of Mooring Safety Sensitivity According to the Arrangement of Bitt Against Gust)

  • 최근 지구온난화에 따른 기후변화에 따라 과거와는 다른 양상의 기상 변화가 발생하고 있으며, 해수 온도 상승으로 태풍의 대형화와 강도증가가 발생하고 있다. 이에 따라 선박이 접안 중 갑작스러운 돌풍 발생시 선박의 계류안전성 확보를 위해 사용할 수 있는 돌풍 대비용 직주의 필요성이 증대되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 항만 및 어항 설계기준상 곡주 및 직주 배치 기준을 분석하고 계류안전성 평가프로그램을 사용하여 12개 시나리오에 따른 직주 사용시 계류안전성 민감도 분석을 수행하였다. 평가 결과, 돌풍 대비용 직주에 선수 및 선미 브레스트라인을 추가하였을 경우, 일반적인 형태의 계류라인 배치에 비해 계류요소값이 감소하는 것으로 분석되었다. 본 연구 결과는 접안선박 및 항만의 특성을 고려한 돌풍 대비용 직주 배치를 제안하기 위한 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있으며, 부두에서 직주의 배치는 돌풍 발생시 선박운항자 측면에서 선박의 계류안전성을 확보하기 위한 효율적인 방안이 될 것으로 사료된다.

쓰나미에 의한 계류 선박의 동적 동요 해석에 관한 연구 (A Study on Dynamic Analysis of Moored Ship Motions by Tsunami)

  • 최근 거대 지진에 의한 쓰나미 발생 확률이 대단히 높다고 경고하고 있다 특히, 항만내의 선박 운용이라는 관점에서, 쓰나미에 의한 막대한 재산 및 인명 피해가 염려되기 때문에 쓰나미에 의한 계류 선박의 영향을 고려하는 것은 대단히 중요한 일이다. 쓰나미가 발생하면 항만 부근에서 입출항중의 선박은 표류를 시작하게 되며, 계류중인 선박도 계류색이 절단되어 표류에 이를 가능성이 높다. 또한, 좌초 및 안벽 충돌 등에 의한 엄청난 사고가 발생할 가능성이 존재한파. 한편, 쓰나미는 수분 정도의 성분파를 포함하고 있기 때문에 계류 선박의 장주기 운동과 공진할 가능성이 높으며, 쓰나미의 유속은 항내에서 발생하는 조류에 비해 대단히 크기 때문에 른 항력이 선박에 작용할 가능성이 있다. 본 연구에서는 대규모 쓰나미의 내습으로 인한 선박 운동의 관점에서 수치 시뮬레이션 과정을 검토하고, 선박 운동에의 영향 및 계류 하중을 수치실험으로 평가한다.
