  • This paper presents a methodology on the AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) to calculate unified power quality index which provide an overall assessment of the distribution system performance. To obtain the unified power quality index. we propose the use of the AHP model and consider contingency using Monte Carlo simulation. The proposed method is especially useful and effective for planning. We have applied the proposed method to an actual relatively large system.

  • A method to simulate the extent of interlinkage of grain boundary gas bubbles to the free surfaces of fuel pellet was developed. With the shape of UO$_2$gain treated as tetrakaidecahedron (TKD)), the interlinked fraction of fission gas bubbles to free surfaces at grain comers was calculated as a function of the radius of grain corner bubbles by the Monte Carlo technique. In spite of two dimensional analysis, the present method shooed reasonable agreement between predicted and measured fuel swelling at the moment that complete bubble interlinkage was achieved. However, for more realistic simulation of interlinkage, grain comer bubbles should be treated three dimensionally.

  • In the fatigue analysis and the components design, uncertainties are caused by the variances of geometry data and applied loads, and the scatter of material properties. In this paper, fatigue crack growth life of turbine is evaluated by fracture mechanics and the reliability analysis is accessed by the fist order second moment method and Monte Carlo simulation.

  • It is possible to extract a 3D models from its multiple views using the self-calibration. Though it is possible to construct 3D models of objects from their multiple views, accuracy of 3D models depends on the fundamental matrix estimated between two views. In this paper, we show the fundamental matrix accuracy can be improved by taking a non-linear minimization technique. Furthermore, the corresponding points which are completely mismatches or have greater discrepancy errors in their locations, reduce the fundamental matrix accuracy. Thus, applying the Monte Carlo technique and the non-linear minimization Levenberg-Marquardt method to remove the outliers, we can estimate the fundamental matrix with the higher accuracy.

  • The exact bit error rate(BER) calculation of an UWB-TH PPM multiple access communication system, which is known to be suitable for the fast transmission of massive information data, is introduced. The statistic feature of the multiple access intereference (MAI) of the system is precisely modeled by the characteristic function technique. The concrete expression for the MAI allows the exact expression for BER to be derived. In addition, we propose the approximate expression for the BER which reveals superior accuracy to the expression from the previous Gaussian approximation of the MAI. The validity of the proposed expressions is confirmed from the comparison of proposed results with the results from Monte-Carlo simulation.

  • Integral imaging is considered as a next-generation 3D display which can display 3d imaging in space using lens array. The performance of integral imaging systems depends on several factors including display panel, lens array, imaging devices and so on. In this paper, we develop a unifying framework to evaluate the resolution of integral imaging systems under fixed resource constraints. The proposed framework enables one to optimize the system performance. To show the feasibility of the proposed method, we carry out Monte Carlo simulations based on this framework and present the results.

  • This paper presents acquisition algorithm and an improved detection technique for the DS/CDMA (direction sequence code division multiple access) RAKE receiver in multipath fading channel. The DS/CDMA systems use the RAKE receiver, an accurate code acquisition is required for the RAKE branches. The algorithmis able to findthe pseudonoise (PN) code delay estimates for the RAKE branches in a multipath fading channel. In this paper a numerical method and computer simulation simulation have been developed for the acquisition system. The detection probability and mean acquisition time are investigated asa performance measure of the system using the Monte Carlo method. And also in order to analyze the effect of the acquisition on the RAKE receiver this paper bring out the effect of integration time, doppler frequency, processing gain and the number of users on the acquired code phase.

  • In order to enhance the confidence in the mobile communication and improve the performance of the bit error, we have been using coding method. In the case of this, we have to add redundancy bits by using error correcting codes such as the block or convolutional codes. However, the result of redundancy bits causes to improve confidence. but to drop the efficiency in the bandwidth. We have studied coding method that we are able to get the good coding gain without any changes in the data transmission rates in the limited bandwidth. In this Paper, we design TCM(Trellis Coded Modulation) which was proposed by Ungerboeck and MTCM(Multiple TCM), with multiplicity(k=2), which was proposed by Divsalar, using the optimum encoder. As state number is varied in the optimum encoder, we compare the performance of the TCM and MTCM by using Monte Carlo simulation.

  • Extreme rainfall causes heavy losses in human life and properties. Hence many works have been done to predict extreme rainfall by using extreme value distributions. In this study, we use a generalized extreme value distribution to derive the posterior predictive density with hierarchical Bayesian approach based on the data of Seoul area from 1973 to 2010. It becomes clear that the probability of the extreme rainfall is increasing for last 20 years in Seoul area and the model proposed works relatively well for both point prediction and predictive interval approach.

  • In this paper, two interference suppression schemes (LCCMA, HIC) applied to the MC-CDMA system were proposed. The proposed schemes have advantages that it don't requires the other's spreading code and can be used even in mobile. The proposed HIC combines the proposed interference suppressor with PIC. Simulation is performed in various environments using the Monte Carlo method. Simulation results show that there is 1.4~3 times capacity increase in corresponding simulation environments. Also this scheme can take advantage of path diversity whereas the system using EGC, MRC, and PIC cannot. Therefore, as the number of path increase, a considerable performance improvement can be attained.
