Prefab members have attracted attention because they can be mass-produced in factories through smart construction technology. For prefab prestressed concrete girders, it is important to manage the shapes of the girders properly from production to the pre-installation stage for consistency with the prefab floor plate during the erection process. This paper presents a camber reconstruction method using collocated strain measurements from the top and bottom of the prefab girder. In particular, the camber reconstruction method is applied to measured strain data in which the time-dependent behavior of concrete is considered after the introduction of prestress. Through Monte Carlo numerical simulations, the statistical accuracy of the reconstructed camber for a limited number of sensors, measurement errors, and nonlinear time-dependent behaviors are analyzed and validated.

We performed three-dimensional Monte Carlo dust scattering radiative transfer simulations for FUV light to obtain dust scattered FUV images and compared them with the observed FUV image obtained by FIMS/SPEAR and GALEX. From this, we find the scattering properties of interstellar dust in our Galaxy and suggest the intensity of extragalactic background light (EBL) at FUV wavelength. The best-fit values of the scattering properties of interstellar dust are albedo = 0.38-0.04+0.04, g-factor = 0.55-0.15+0.10, and EBL = 138-23+21 CU for the allsky which are consistent well with the Milky Way dust model of Draine and direct measurements of Gardner et al., respectively. At the high Galactic latitude of |b|>10°, the observation is well fitted with the model of lower albedo = 0.35-0.04+0.06 and g-factor = 0.50-0.20+0.15. On the contrary, the scattering properties of interstellar dust show higher albedo = 0.43-0.02+0.02 and g-factor = 0.65-0.15+0.05 near the Galactic plane of |b|<10°. In the present simulation, recent three-dimensional distribution maps of interstellar dust in our Galaxy, stellar distances in the catalog of GAIA DR2, and FUV fluxes and/or spectral types in the TD-1 and Hipparcos star catalogs were used.

This paper proposes two-stage optimization framework to re-estimate the photovoltaic (PV) hosting capacity (HC) by improving parameters for voltage controls of the smart inverter. In the first stage, PV HC is estimated considering Volt-Var (VV) and Volt-Watt (VW) controls, aligning with IEEE Std 1547-2018 guidelines. In the second stage, adjust parameters of VV and VW to improve HC. To investigate the performance of the proposed algorithm, simulations conducted using OpenDSS on an IEEE 37-bus system. The results demonstrate that effectively increases PV HC.
Background: This study examined the detection limit of thyroid screening monitoring conducted at the time of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP) accident in 2011 using a Monte Carlo simulation. Materials and Methods: We calculated the detection limit of a NaI(Tl) survey meter to measure 131I accumulation in the thyroid gland of children. Mathematical phantoms of 1- and 5-year-old children were developed in the simulation of the Particle and Heavy Ion Transport code System code. Contamination of the body surface with eight radionuclides found after the FDNPP accident was assumed to have been deposited on the neck and shoulder area. Results and Discussion: The detection limit was calculated as a function of ambient dose rate. In the case of 40 Bq/cm2 contamination on the body surface of the neck, the present simulations showed that residual thyroid radioactivity corresponding to thyroid dose of 100 mSv can be detected within 21 days after intake at the ambient dose rate of 0.2 µSv/hr and within 11 days in the case of 2.0 µSv/hr. When a time constant of 10 seconds was used at the dose rate of 0.2 µSv/hr, the estimated survey meter output error was 5%. Evaluation of the effect of individual differences in the location of the thyroid gland confirmed that the measured value would decrease by approximately 6% for a height difference of ±1 cm and increase by approximately 65% for a depth of 1 cm. Conclusion: In the event of a nuclear disaster, simple measurements carried out using a NaI(Tl) scintillation survey meter remain effective for assessing 131I intake. However, it should be noted that the presence of short-half-life radioactive materials on the body surface affects the detection limit.
This paper applies a relative impact angle control guidance law to a communication-based multi-missile network system with uncertainties and disturbances. The multi-missile network system is represented as a transitive reduction directed acyclic graph. Furthermore, this paper introduces both centralized and decentralized guidance laws based on the graph's structure. The relationship between these guidance laws is analyzed by comparing them based on the communication structure and the presence of system noise. To analyze the effects of decentralized optimal cooperative guidance law, this paper assumes uncertainty in missile dynamics and predicted impact point information for the relative impact angle control mission. Monte Carlo simulations are conducted for various mission environments to analyze the impact of communication and its structure on the system.

In a fire-resistant structure, uncertainties arise in factors such as ventilation, material elasticity modulus, yield strength, coefficient of thermal expansion, external forces, and fire location. The ventilation uncertainty affects thefactor contributes to uncertainties in fire temperature, subsequently impacting the structural temperature. These temperatures, combined with material properties, give rise to uncertain structural responses. Given the nonlinear behavior of structures under fire conditions, calculating fire fragility traditionally involves time-consuming Monte Carlo simulations. To address this, recent studies have explored leveraging machine learning algorithms to predict fire fragility, aiming to enhance efficiency while maintaining accuracy. This study focuses on predicting the fire fragility of a steel moment frame building, accounting for uncertainties in fire size, location, and structural material properties. The fragility curve, derived from nonlinear structural behavior under fire, follows a log-normal distribution. The results demonstrate that the proposed method accurately and efficiently predicts fire fragility, showcasing its effectiveness in streamlining the analysis process.

Considering uncertainties of random input data, it is more reasonable to use probabilistic method than the conventional deterministic method for the design of structures or for the assessment of the responses of structures, which are designed as safe even under extreme loads. Therefore, to assess the quantitative effects of the constructed cable stayed bridge by the input random variables, a sensitivity analysis is studied. Using perturbation method, an analysis program is developed for the iterative probabilistic finite element analyses and sensitivity analyses of the cable stayed bridge, except the initial shape analysis. Monte-Carlo Simulations were used for the verification of the developed program. The results of sensitivity analysis shows the governing effects of external loads. Because the results also provide the sensitive effects of the stiffness of members and the magnitudes of prestressing force of cables, the developed
To suppress the reverberation in the active sonar system, the non-negative matrix factorization-based reverberation suppression methods have been researched recently. An estimation loss function, which makes the multiplication of basis matrices same as the input signals, has to be considered to design the non-negative matrix factorization methods, but the conventional method simply chooses the Kullback-Leibler divergence asthe lossfunction without any considerations. In this paper, we examined that the Kullback-Leibler divergence is the best lossfunction or there isthe other loss function enhancing the performance. First, we derived a modified reverberation suppression algorithm using the generalized beta-divergence function, which includes the Kullback-Leibler divergence. Then, we performed Monte-Carlo simulations using synthesized reverberation for the modified reverberation suppression method. The results showed that the Kullback-Leibler divergence function (β = 1) has good performances in the high signal-to-reverberation environments, but the intermediate function (β = 1.25) between Kullback-Leibler divergence and Euclidean distance has better performance in the low signal-to-reverberation environments.
This study compares and analyzes the performance of a shield manufactured using 3D printing technology to find out its applicability as a shield in high-energy electron beam therapy. Actual measurement and monte carlo simulations were performed to evaluate the shielding performance of 3D printing materials for high-energy electron beams. First, in order to secure reliability for the simulation, a source term evaluation was conducted by referring to the IAEA's TRS-398 recommendation. Second, to analyze the shielding performance of PLA+W (93%), a specimen was manufactured using a 3D printer, and the shielding rate by thickness according to electron beam energy was evaluated. Third, the shielding thickness required for electron beam treatment was calculated through a comparative analysis of shielding performance between PLA+W (93%) and existing shielding bodies. First, as a result of the evaluation of the source term through actual measurement and simulation, the TRS-398 recommendation was satisfied with an error of less than 1%, thereby securing the reliability of the simulation. Second, as a result of the shielding performance analysis for PLA+W (93%), 6 MeV electron beams showed a shielding rate of more than 95% at 3.12 mm, and 15 MeV electron beams showed a shielding rate of more than 90% at 10 mm thickness. Third, through simulations, comparative analysis between PLA+W (93%) materials and existing shields showed high shielding rates within the same thickness in the order of tungsten, lead, copper, PLA+W (93%), and aluminum. 6 MeV electron beams showed almost similar shielding rates at 5 mm or more and 15 MeV electron beams. Through this study in the future, it is judged that it can be used as basic data for the production and application of shielding bodies using PLA+W (93%) materials in high-energy electron beam treatment.
This paper specifically discusses the risk assessment on the pesticide residues in vegetables collected from traditional markets, big marts and departments in the southern part of Seoul. Vegetable samples were 6,583 cases from January to December in 2009. Monte-Carlo simulation was used to calculate the uncertainty for the risk index using pesticide residues, average dietary intake for vegetables and acceptable daily intake. Deterministic risk indexes were 7.33% of diethofencarb, 5.13% of indoxacarb, 3.96% of EPN, 3.92% of diniconazole and 3.09% of chlorothalonil, respectively. And other pesticides were below 3%. Distributions of risk indexes obtained by the Monte-Carlo simulations were similar to the deterministic values, even though the confidence intervals for 95% were very wide. We confirmed that health risks caused by eating vegetables exceeded maximum residue limits of pesticide are very low and the population is generally safe, judging from the risk indexes located between 0.07 to 9.49%.
