  • Breakwaters are the coastal structures constructed either perpendicular (shore connected) or parallel (detached) to the coast. The main function of breakwater is to create a tranquil medium on its leeside by reflecting the waves and also dissipating the wave energy arriving from seaside, resulting in ease of manoeuvrability to boats or ships to their berthing places. Different types of breakwaters are being used at present, such as rubble mound breakwater, vertical wall type breakwater and composite breakwater. The objective of this paper is to investigate reflection coefficients (Kr) and dissipation (loss) coefficients (Kl) for physical models of Quarter circle caisson breakwater of three different radii of 0.550 m, 0.575 m and 0.600 m with S/D ratio of 2.5 (S=spacing between perforations, D=diameter of perforations). The models were tested in the monochromatic wave flume of the department, for different incident wave heights (Hi), Wave periods (T) and water depths (d). It was observed that reflection coefficient increased with increase in the wave steepness (Hi/gT2) and decreased with increase in depth parameter (d/gT2) and hs/d (Height of structure including rubble base/depth of water). The loss coefficient decreased with increase in the wave steepness and increased with increase in depth parameter and hs/d.

  • This study was intended to analyze and investigate a diversity of aesthetic values expressed in the military look of the Milan collections by using content analysis method to find what design characteristic and image emerged concretely in the later 20th century. A total of 334 military look works shown in fashion magazines such as Vogue and Collezioni Donna over the period between 1996 and 2000 were collected as research data, which were classified into 5 categories such as item, silhouette, color, color coordination, fashion image. The results were summarized as follows: first, it was found that coat was the most preferred item in expressing the military look image. Second, it was found that the straight line was the most preferred silhouette, which indicates that it was the most suitable silhouette in expressing the bisexual image of the military look. Third, in the colors of the military look, achromatic colors such as black and white were found to be of the highest frequency, which shows that achromatic colors continued to be proposed as fashionable colors around 1996 and this influence was reflected in the military look. Finally, in terms of the item of color coordination, monochromatic coordination accounted for more than half of the military look, through which it could be explained that designers utilized it greatly to make an effective expression of the masculine image.

  • The measurements of monochromatic line-of-sight flame emission and light transmission in the same path having small spatial resolution were performed in an axisymmetric laminar propane $C_{3}H_{8}$ diffusion flame. The light wavelengthes of 632 nm, 800nm, 900nm were used. From these measurements, local point soot radiances (by Kirchhoff's law) and absorption coefficients were reconstructed by tomography. Thus local point soot temperatures and concentrations were obtained. The reconstructed soot temperatures and concentrations of local points have no differences between the case of visible range (632 nm) and the case of infrared range (800 nm and 900 nm). In these ranges, the scattering coefficient is much lower than the absorption coefficient. Soot mean temperature over the path also matches well with local soot temperature in outer region of the flame. Temperature measurement by thermocouple with different bead diameters $(222{\mu}m and 308{\mu}m)$ was carried in the same flame. Rapid insertion technique was used and radiation effect was considered. Radiation correction in the sooting region was carried out and the corrected result was in good agreement with the local soot temperature.

  • We describe a new way of implementing absolute displacement measurements by exploiting the optical comb of a femtosecond pulse laser as a wavelength ruler, The optical comb is stabilized by locking both the repetition rate and the carrier offset frequency to an Rb clock of frequency standard. Multiwavelength interferometry is then performed using the quasi-monochromatic beams of well-defined generated wavelengths by tuning an external cavity laser diode consecutively to preselected light modes of the optical comb. This scheme of wavelength synthesizing allows the measurement of absolute distances with a high precision that is traceable to the definition of time. The achievable wavelength uncertainty is $1.9{\times}10^{-10}$, which allows the absolute heights of gauge blocks to be determined with an overall calibration uncertainty of 15 nm (k = 1). These results demonstrate a successful industrial application of an optical frequency synthesis employing a femtosecond laser, a technique that offers many possibilities for performing precision length metrology that is traceable to the well-defined international definition of time.

  • To assign the functionality of the regenerated fiber from waste MDF(wMDF) made of pitch pine, we examined the dyeing characteristics of natural dyes, sappan wood as a polychromatic natural red series, monochromatic gardenia as a yellow series, and indigo blue series. For nonemordanting dye, the colors of regenerated fiber dyed by sappan wood and gardenia were reddish yellow (YR) and yellow (Y) series, respectively, and dyeing conditions were appropriate a 30 ~ 50 g/L of dyeing materials at 60 ℃ for 60minutes of dyeing time. We obtained regenerated woody dyed fibers (Re-WDF), YR to the red (R) series by premordanting with Al and Cu mordant for sappan wood and the purplish red (RP) series by Fe premordanting. In the case of gardenia, only Y series colors were developed in nonemordanting dye or all three mordants. Indigo dye produced Re-WDF with greenish yellow (GY) tone at 1%, green (G) tone at 3%, and blue (B) tone at 5% concentration or more. Re-WDF with indigo showed the best light fastness followed by sappan wood and gardenia. In particular, the light fastness of Re-WDF with gardenia was very poor. The light fastness was somewhat improved by premordanting(Fe>Cu>Al) both sappan wood and gardenia dyes.

  • Based on the eigenfunction expansion method, the interaction between monochromatic waves and a partially immersed slotted plate with a back wall has been investigated. Analytical results show that the reflection coefficients by a partially immersed slotted plate depend on the porosity, immersed depth, chamber width, incidence angle and wave frequency. It is found that the reflection coefficient has minimum value within entire frequency range when the porosity has optimal value 0.1. Comparison between the analytical results and the experimental results(Zhu,2001) of reflection coefficients is made for various chamber widths, immersed depths and wave periods with good agreement. The present analytic method can account adequately for energy dissipation caused by flow separation behind a slotted plate and provide the design informations for the construction of slit caisson breakwater.

  • We study the amorphous In-Ga-Zn-O thin-film transistors (TFTs) properties under monochromatic illumination ($\lambda=420nm$) with different intensity. TFT off-state drain current ($I_{DS_off}$) was found to increase with the light intensity while field effect mobility ($\mu_{eff}$) is almost unchanged; only small change was observed for sub-threshold swing (S). Due to photo-generated charge trapping, a negative threshold voltage ($V_{th}$) shift is also observed. The photofield-effect analysis suggests a highly efficient UV photocurrent conversion in a-IGZO TFT. Finally, a-IGZO mid-gap density-of-states (DOS) was extracted and is more than an order lower than reported value for a-Si:H, which can explain a good switching properties of the a-IGZO TFTs.

  • The Heian Period(794-1192) was the period when luxury and elegance flourished. Gorgeous colors were adopted for the costumes and an el-egant assortment of colors prevailed. Representatiove of such costumes is kasane-no-irome. The world Kasane-no-irome originally came from two colors on both sides of one of the japanese kimonos called Uchiki. In later times it turned to indicate the combination ef-fect of colors of several Uchiki's worn in layers one over the other. This paper describes in de-tail the kasane-no-irome in both meanings. In so doing I distinguish two different kinds of kasane-no-irome using a Chinese character for the formed and for the latter though both are pronounced Kasane in the Japanese language. Part one of this paper which concerns the color combinations of presents typical 148 samples through reproduced dyeing clothes by Matumoto. Part two describes the color com-bination of which was so called Junihitoe. It presents typical 41 samples from reproduced dyeing clothes by Matumoto. The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics of color distribution and the structure of color combination in Kasane-no-irome. Therefore we obtained the following results in Kasane-no-irome. 1. The color combination of Kasane-no-irome came from the natural color harmony there-fore the names of kasane-no-irome which adopt the names of flowers and leaves of the foure seasons. Accordingly the seasons for wearing them are fixed. 2. In the hue the most frequent appearance was green. And in the tone the most frequent apperance was moderate. 3. In the color combination the most fre-quent type were monochromatic combination and contrast combination.

  • The electro-optic polarization transmission characteristics of a liquid crystal (LC) cell is represented by a rotational transformation on the Poincare sphere, and its characteristic parameters, the angle and the axis of the rotation, are experimentally determined with respect to the voltage applied to the LC cell. From the experimental data obtained, we determine driving voltage for the LC cell to give the rotation angle near $180^{\circ}$ of the rotation for the change of the state of the LC cell from non-select to select state, which is a necessary condition for the realization of maximally bright images. The directions of the transmission axes of the polarizer and the analyzer which form a liquid crystal display panel together with the LC cell, are determined from the general characteristics of the rotaional transformation of the LC cell. cell.

  • It is crucial to understand the dust properties in the early universe since they provide important clues about how the early cosmic star formation should be interpreted in the presence of dust extinction. GRB 071025 is an unusually red GRB that occured at high redshift, offering an unique opportunity to study the dust properties in the early universe. We investigate the extinction properties of GRB 071025 through the analysis of RIJHK data obtained with the 1-m telescope at Mt. Lemmon Optical Astronomy Observatory (LOAO) and Simultaneous Quad Infrared Imaging Device (SQIID) on the Kitt-Peak Mayall 4-m telescope. Our dataset is independent from that in a previous work (Perley et al. 2010) where a small systematic photometric errors could complicate the interpretation. After determining the temporal power law exponent with five I-band frames from LOAO, we construct a multi-band monochromatic SED of the GRB afterglow. By using various extinction laws, we find that the SED is best fitted with models that incorporate SNe II dust and derive a photometric redshift of 4.99(+0.12/-0.03). Our results strongly support the prior claim that dusts in GRB 071025 originate mainly from supernovae, implying SNe II predominantly contributed to the dust enrichment in the early universe (z ~ 5).
