  • The new town in Korea, developed as a large-scale housing plan, has created urban ecological corridors to provide habitat and movement routes to wildlife and to promote natural ecological flow. This study aimed to investigate the use of wildlife in 10 ecological corridors in Gwanggyo New Town through camera trap technology and confirm effectiveness by identifying environmental factors affecting the use of wildlife's urban ecological corridors. Our researchers installed 20 unmanned sensor cameras at each the entrance and exit of the ecological corridors, and monitored urban wildlife for 10 weeks. According to the monioring results, the main species in Gwanggyo New Town were identified not only raccons, cats, water deer, korean hare and avain but also magpies, dove, eurasian tree sparrow, ring-necked pheasant, and eurasian jay. The number of uses ecological corridors of urban residents was 801(13.49%), as high as that of urban wildlife (1,140, 19.20%), which was judged to have disturbed the use of ecological corridors by wildlife. However, most dominant species of urban wildlife are nocturnal so that, it was judged that they share home range with urban residents at a time interval. In addition, according to the correlation analysis results between the mammal using rate of the urban ecological corridors and environmental factors(ecological corridor-specific length, ecological corridor-specific width, cover degree, shielding degree, connected green area, separation of movement routes, and presence of streetlights), environmental factors were not statistically significant. However, the more the area of green space connected to ecological corridors, the more increasing the mammal using rate of ecological corridor(r=0.71, p<0.05). Therefore, the area of green space connected to the ecological corridors that is associated with rate of wildlife using corridors should be considered as a priority when developing an urban ecological corridors. In the future, this study will extend the observation period of the ecological corridors and continuously accumulate data by adding the number of observation cameras. Furthermore, it is expected that the results of this study can be used as basic data for the standards for urban ecological corridors installation.

  • Open-pit mine development requires continuous management because of topographical changes and there is a risk of accidents if the current status survey is performed directly in the process of calculating the earthwork. In this study, the application of UAV photogrammetry, which can acquire spatial information without direct human access, was applied to open-pit mines development area and analyzed the accuracy, earthwork, and mountain restoration plan to determine its applicability. As a result of accuracy analysis at checkpoint using ortho image and Digital Surface Model(DSM) by UAV photogrammetry, Root Mean Square Error(RMSE) is 0.120 m in horizontal and 0.150 m in vertical coordinates. This satisfied the tolerance range of 1:1,000 digital map. As a result of the comparison of the earthwork, UAV photogrammetry yielded 11.7% more earthwork than the conventional survey method. It is because UAV photogrammetry shows more detailed topography. And result of monitoring mountain restoration showed possible to determine existence of rockfall prevention nets and vegetation. If the terrain changes are monitored by acquiring images periodically, the utility of UAV photogrammetry will be further useful to open-pit mine development.

  • This study was conducted to provide basic data for monitoring the trend of ecosystem change and establishing management plans for wetland protection areas by understanding the status of naturalized plants. In 21 wetland protection areas, 129 taxa, including 10 invasive alien species, were recorded. The naturalized plants appeared mostly as 71 taxa in the Chimsil wetland and were not observed in the Moojechineup and Sumeunmulbaengdui wetlands. Among the naturalized plants, 42 taxa (32.6%) originated from North America. Annual and biennial plants accounted for 68.2% (88 taxa). The frequencies of occurrence of naturalized plants growing in dry secondary grasses such as Erigeron annuus and Trifolium repens were high, and clonal plants that propagated by making stolons and struck roots accounted for 19.4% (25 taxa). The naturalized and urbanization indices showed positive correlations with location factors such as wetland, agricultural land, and used area. However, a negative correlation was found between altitude and forest. Therefore, a management plan that synthetically considers the occurrence frequency and growth characteristics of naturalized plants as well as the locational characteristics of wetland protection areas is required.

  • The red line of Permanent Basic Farmland is the most important part in the "three-line" demarcation of China's national territorial development plan. The scientific and reasonable delineation of the red line is a major strategic measure being taken by China to improve its ability to safeguard the practical interests of farmers and guarantee national food security. The delineation of Permanent Basic Farmland zoning (DPBFZ) is essentially a multi-objective optimization problem. However, the traditional method of demarcation does not take into account the synergistic development goals of conservation of cultivated land utilization, ecological conservation, or urban expansion. Therefore, this research introduces the idea of artificial immune optimization and proposes a multi-objective model of DPBFZ red line delineation based on a clone selection algorithm. This research proposes an objective functional system consisting of these three sub-objectives: optimal quality of cropland, spatially concentrated distribution, and stability of cropland. It also takes into consideration constraints such as the red line of ecological protection, topography, and space for major development projects. The mathematical formal expressions for the objectives and constraints are given in the paper, and a multi-objective optimal decision model with multiple constraints for the DPBFZ problem is constructed based on the clone selection algorithm. An antibody coding scheme was designed according to the spatial pattern of DPBFZ zoning. In addition, the antibody-antigen affinity function, the clone mechanism, and mutation strategy were constructed and improved to solve the DPBFZ problem with a spatial optimization feature. Finally, Tongxu County in Henan province was selected as the study area, and a controlled experiment was set up according to different target preferences. The results show that the model proposed in this paper is operational in the work of delineating DPBFZ. It not only avoids the adverse effects of subjective factors in the delineation process but also provides multiple scenarios DPBFZ layouts for decision makers by adjusting the weighting of the objective function.

  • As the impermeable area increases due to urbanization and industrialization, the influence of non-point pollutants caused by rainfall runoff on the water system is increasing. In the past, the best management practices(BMP) were used a lot to manage non-point pollutants, but recently, technology that naturally treats them through LID (Low Impact Development) technology is widely used. In this study, various rainfall events were simulated through the SWMM model based on the data of rainfall monitoring in bioretention among natural facilities. The characteristic of LID modeling research is that it is difficult to build accurate modeling data with short-term data because real data is the result obtained through natural facilities, and it is difficult to implement an accurate model. In this study, the data monitored for 3 years It is significant in that it has built a precise model. The actual data monitored a total of 18 times was simulated, and the inflow and outflow and the removal efficiency of five pollutants were simulated. As a result of performing the performance evaluation, most of the 7 items showed excellent indicators, and the TN and TP showed relatively low simulation performance. In the future, it is expected that Korea will introduce an integrated water management system in which the water supply system and the sewage system are substantially integrated and operated. Therefore, the results of this study are considered to play an important role in the initial stage of rainfall management in the future integrated water management system, and the extent of rainfall runoff reduction and pollutant reduction in the expected installation area can be predicted in advance. This is expected to prevent overdesign of bioretention.

  • Here we aimed to classify the major coniferous tree species (Pinus densiflora, Pinus koraiensis, and Larix kaempferi) by tree measurement information and machine learning algorithms to establish an efficient forest management plan. We used national forest monitoring information amassed over nine years for the measurement information of trees, and random forest (RF), XGBoost (XGB), and light GBM (LGBM) as machine learning algorithms. We compared and evaluated the accuracy of the algorithm through performance evaluation using the accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score of the algorithm. The RF algorithm had the highest performance evaluation score for all tree species, and highest scores for Pinus densiflora, with an accuracy of about 65%, a precision of about 72%, a recall of about 60%, and an F1 score of about 66%. The classification accuracy for the dominant trees was higher than about 80% in the crown classes, but that of the co-dominant trees, the intermediate trees, and the overtopper trees was evaluated as low. We consider that the results of this study can be used as reference data for decision-making in the selection of thinning trees for forest management.

  • Purpose: Based on the risk evaluation of hydrogen fueling stations, this study aims to find a plan to strengthen management safety by examining profitability and management risk, which are major concerns of employers. Method: The risk evaluation was divided into 'acceptable risk' and 'allowable risk' over time from the stage of installation of hydrogen fueling stations, and compared and analyzed with the results of existing studies. Result: Existing studies have been appropriately applied to the risk assessment performed at the stage of installing hydrogen fueling stations. However, possible risks could be found at the operational stage. In other words, it was derived that an evaluation of management risk was also necessary. And through this, it was confirmed that the safety of hydrogen fueling stations was strengthened. Conclusion: The risk assessment that precedes the stage of installing hydrogen fueling stations is appropriate because significant results have been derived from the 'acceptable risk' assessment. However, the operator needs to evaluate the risks that may occur at the operating stage, that is, the 'allowable risks' and prepare countermeasures. Therefore, it is proposed to add management risk assessment items to build and operate safer hydrogen fueling stations.

  • The Japanese Flying Squid (Todarodes pacificus) is a commercially important species in South Korea and the most popular species among consumers. However commercial catches of Japanese Flying Squid have been declining since 2000. In this study, we conducted a stock assessment to identify stock status. This study differed from previous studies in two aspects: a greater amount of available fishing effort data was used, and data from China, Japan, and Korea were included. A CMSY (catch-maximum sustainable yield) model was used to estimate MSY, biomass and exploitation with Bayesian state-space implementation of the Schaefer (BSS) model for the method of stock assessment, and evaluated the species by dividing into two groups, 'Korea' and ' Korea·China·Japan'. In all cases, Japanese flying squid biomass showed a general decreasing trend. Additionally, the biomass estimated for 2020 was lower than the biomass necessary to achieve the maximum sustainable yield. To manage Japanese Flying Squid effectively, it is necessary to strengthen the resource management strategies of individual countries and prepare a cooperative plan among countries.
