A new model based on Lomax distribution

  • In this article, a new model based on Lomax distribution is introduced. This new model is both useful and practical in areas such as economic, reliability and life testing. Some statistical properties of this model are presented including moments, hazard rate, reversed hazard rate, mean residual life and mean inactivity time functions, among others. It is also shown that the distributions of the new model are ordered with respect to the strongest likelihood ratio ordering. The method of moment and maximum likelihood estimation are used to estimates the unknown parameters. Simulation is utilized to calculate the unknown shape parameter and to study its properties. Finally, to illustrate the concepts, the appropriateness of the new model for real data sets are included.

용접 철골모멘트골조의 비선형 동적 연쇄붕괴해석을 위한 병렬 소성힌지 모델의 개발 (A Parallel Axial-Flexural Hinge Model for Nonlinear Dynamic Progressive Collapse Analysis of Welded Steel Moment Frames)

  • 본 논문에서는 용접철골모멘트골조의 비선형 동적 연쇄붕괴 해석을 위해 인장-휨 거동을 반영한 효율적인 병렬 소성힌지를 제안하였다. 본 목적을 위해 재료적/기하학적 비선형 유한요소해석을 이용한 변수연구를 통해 기둥이 손실된 2경간 보의 항복후 휨거동과 모멘트-축인장력 상호작용을 살펴보았다. 유한요소해석결과를 토대로 보의 모멘트-축인장력 상호작용 관계를 일련의 선형으로 근사화한 소성힌지모델을 제안하고, 이를 OpenSees 프로그램에 적용하여 용접철골모멘트골조의 비선형 동적 연쇄붕괴해석을 수행하였다. 비선형 동적 유한요소해석을 통하여 본 연구에서 제안한 힌지모델의 효율성과 정확도를 검증하였다. 또한 본 연구 결과는 연쇄붕괴 해석 및 설계에 적절한 현수작용효과의 포함여부가 중요함을 보여준다.

  • 본 연구에서는 아직 설계법이 정립되지 않은 리브로 보강된 RBS 철골모멘트 접합부의 내진설계법을 등가 스트럿 모델에 의거하여 제시하였다. 종종 엔지니어가 리브를 사용하여 철골모멘트접합부의 내진성능을 높이고자 할 경우 고전 휨이론에 의거하여 리브와 보로 구성된 일체단면의 단면2차모멘트로서 그루브 용접부의 인장응력도 예측하려 하는데 이는 타당치 않다. 리브접합부의 응력전달 메커니즘은 고전 휨이론에 의한 메카니즘과는 전혀 다르다. 즉 리브는 고전 휨이론에 의한 기대와는 달리 리브의 대각선 기울기 방향으로 스트럿 거동을 보인다. 필자는 이 같은 점에 주목하여 리브를 스트럿 요소로 파악하여 리브 접합부의 설계에 활용될 수 있는 등가 스트럿 모델을 이미 제시한 바가 있다. 본 연구에서는 이 등가 스트럿 모델을 기초로 리브접합부의 실용설계에 활용될 수 있는 단계별 설계절차를 제안하였다.

Progressive collapse analysis of steel frame structure based on the energy principle

  • The progressive collapse potential of steel moment framed structures due to abrupt removal of a column is investigated based on the energy principle. Based on the changes of component's internal energy, this paper analyzes structural member's sensitivity to abrupt removal of a column to determine a sub-structure resisting progressive collapse. An energy-based structural damage index is defined to judge whether progressive collapse occurs in a structure. Then, a simplified beam damage model is proposed to analyze the energies absorbed and dissipated by structural beams at large deflections, and a simplified modified plastic hinges model is developed to consider catenary action in beams. In addition, the correlation between bending moment and axial force in a beam during the whole deformation development process is analyzed and modified, which shows good agreement with the experimental results.

  • A brief introduction is given on the conditional moment closure model for turbulent nonpremixed combustion. It is based on the transport equations derived through a rigorous mathematical procedure for the conditionally averaged quantities and appropriate modeling forms for conditional scalar dissipation rate, conditional mean velocity and reaction rate. Examples are given for prediction of NO and OH in bluffbody flames, soot distribution in jet flames and autoignition of a methane/ethane jet to predict the ignition delay with respect to initial temperature, pressure and fuel composition. Conditional averaging may also be a powerful modeling concept in other approaches involved in turbulent combustion problems in various different regimes.

  • Because of the orthotropic elastic properties and significant two-way bending action, orthotropic plate theory may be suitable for describing the behavior of concrete filled grid bridge decks. Current AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specification(2004) has live load moment equations considering flexural rigidity ratio between longitudinal and transverse direction, but the Korea highway bridge design specification(2005) doesn't. The Korea highway bridge standard specification LRFD(1996) considers an orthotropic plate model with a single load to estimate live load moments in concrete filled grid bridge decks, which may not be conservative. This paper presents live load moment equations for truck and passenger car, based on orthotropic plate theory. The equations of truck model use multiple presence factor, impact factor, design truck and design tandem of the Korea highway bridge standard specification LRFD(1996). The estimated moments are verified through finite-element analyses.

  • A moment-curvature relationship to simulate the behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) columns under cyclic loading is introduced. Unlike previous moment-curvature models and the layered section approach, the unposed model takes into account the bond-slip effect by using a monotonic moment-curvature relationship constructed on the basis of the bond-slip relation and corresponding equilibrium equation at each nodal point. In addition, the use of curved unloading and reloading branches inferred from the stress-strain relation of steel gives more exact numerical result. The pinching enact caused by axial force is considered with an assumption that the absorbing energy corresponding to any deformation level maintains constant regardless of the magnitude of applied axial force. The advantages of the proposed model, comparing tn layered section approach, may be on the reduction in calculation time and memory space in case of its application to large structures.. Finally, correlation studies between analytical results and experimental studies are conducted to establish the validity of the proposed mood.

Deflection ductility of RC beams under mid-span load

  • Ductility is very important parameter in seismic design of RC members such as beams where it allows RC beams to dissipate the seismic energy. In this field, the curvature ductility has taken a large part of interest compared to the deflection ductility. For this reason, the present paper aims to propose a general formula for predicting the deflection ductility factor of RC beams under mid-span load. Firstly, the moment area theorem is used to develop a model in order to calculate the yield and the ultimate deflections; then this model is validated by using some results extracted from previous researches. Secondly, a general formula of deflection ductility factor is written based on the developed deflection expressions. The new formula is depended on curvature ductility factor, beam length, and plastic hinge length. To facilitate the use of this formula, a parametric study on the curvature ductility factor is conducted in order to write it in simple manner without the need for curvature calculations. Therefore, the deflection ductility factor can be directly calculated based on beam length, plastic hinge length, concrete strength, reinforcement ratios, and yield strength of steel reinforcement. Finally, the new formula of deflection ductility factor is compared with the model previously developed based on the moment area theorem. The results show the good performance of the new formula.

3D Model Retrieval Based on Orthogonal Projections

  • Recently with the development of 3D modeling and digitizing tools, more and more models have been created, which leads to the necessity of the technique of 3D mode retrieval system. In this paper we investigate a new method for 3D model retrieval based on orthogonal projections. We assume that 3D models are composed of trigonal meshes. Algorithms process first by a normalization step in which the 3D models are transformed into the canonical coordinates. Then each model is orthogonally projected onto six surfaces of the projected cube which contains it. A following step is feature extraction of the projected images which is done by Moment Invariants and Polar Radius Fourier Transform. The feature vector of each 3D model is composed of the features extracted from projected images with different weights. Our System validates that this means can distinguish 3D models effectively. Experiments show that our method performs quit well.
