  • The hydrolysis-precipitation reaction of mixed aluminum salt solutions of aluminum sulfate, aluminum nitrate, and urea has been investigated to obtain narrow-sized and unagglomerated fine spherical precipitates of aluminum hydroxide required for coating core particles. The hydrolysis-precipitatin reaction could be controlled to be appropriate to coating processes by usign urea as a pH control-agent. As the concetration of total Al3+ ion and the molar ratio of SO42-/Al3+ in starting solutions became smaller and also as the vol. ratio of water/solution for hydrolyzing mixed aluminum salt solution became larger, the morphology of precipitates tended to be more unagglomerated and spherical, while their size(0.5longrightarrow0.05${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) to be smaller. The optimum hydrolysis condition for coating processes was to hydrolyze the mixed aluminum salt solution, in which the molar ratio of SO42-/Al3+ was 0.75, while the amount of water corresponding to the vol. ratio of water/solution of 15. The precipitate was the aluminum hydroxide which sulfate ions were strongly adsorbed on and the maximum yield in the hydrolysis-precipitation reaction was about 20%.

  • A process for production of ethyl ester for use as biodiesel has been studied. The sodium hydroxide catalyzed transesterification of soybean oil with ethanol was carried out at different molar ratio of alcohol to oil, reaction temperature and catalyst amount for a constant agitation in two hours of reaction time. Central composite design and response surface methodology were used to determine optimum condition for producing biodiesel. It was found that ethanol to oil ratio and catalyst concentration have a positive influence on ester conversion as well as interaction effects between the three factors considered. An empirical model obtained was able to predict conversion as a function of ethanol to oil molar ratio, reaction temperature and catalyst concentration adequately. Optimum condition for soybean ethyl ester production was found to be moderate ethanol to oil ratio (10.5: 1), mild temperature range ($70^{\circ}C$) and high catalyst concentrations ($1.0\%$wt), with corresponding ester conversion of $93.0\%$.

  • Fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) thin film was coated on aluminosilicate glass at $450^{\circ}C$ by spray pyrolysis method. In the range of 0-2.7 molar ratio of F/Sn, the variations of electrical conductivity and visible light transmission were investigated. At the F/Sn ratio of 1.765, the film showed the lowest electrical resistivity value of $3.0{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}\;cm$, the highest carrier concentration of $2.404{\times}10^{21}/cm^3$, and about $8\;cm^2/V{\cdot}sec$ of electronic mobility. The FTO film showed a preferred orientation of (200) plane parallel to the substrate. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis results indicated that the contents of $Sn^{4+}-O$ bonding are the highest at 1.765 of F/Sn molar ratio.

  • The characteristics of cyanide decomposition in aqueous phase by hydrogen peroxide have been explored in an effort to develop a process to recycle waste water. The self-decomposition of $H_2O$$_2$at pH 10 or below was minimal even in 90 min., with keeping about 90% of $H_2O$$_2$undissociated. On the contrary, at pH 12 only 9% of it remained during the same time. In the presence of copper catalyst at 5 g Cu/L, complete decomposition of $H_2$O$_2$was accomplished at pH 12 even in a shorter time of 40 min. The volatility of free cyanide was decisively dependent on the solution pH: the majority of free cyanide was volatilized at pH 8 or below, however, only 10% of it was volatilized at pH 10 or above. In non-catalytic cyanide decomposition, the free cyanide removal was incomplete in 300 min. even in an excessive addition of $H_2$$O_2$at a $H_2$$O_2$/CN molar ratio of 4, with leaving behind about 8% of free cyanide. On the other hand, in the presence of copper catalyst at a Cu/CN molar ratio of 0.2, the free cyanide was mostly decomposed in only 16 min. at a reducedH202/CN molar ratio of 2. Ihe efnciency of HBO2 in cyanide decomposition decreased with increasing addition of H2O2 since the seu-decomposition rate of $H_2$$O_2$increased. At the optimum $H_2$$O_2$/mo1ar ratio 0.2 of and Cu/CN molar ratio of 0.05, the free cyanide could be completely decomposed in 70 min., having a self-decomposition rate of 22 mM/min and a H$_2$$O_2$ efficiency of 57%.

  • In the treatment of Cu - and CN - contained wastewater by using Fenton oxidation-flocculation-precipitation, the optimal removal efficiencies of the cyanide and copper were investigated according to pH, reaction time, the molar ratio of cyanide and hydrogen peroxide and the mass ratio of ferrous sulfate and hydrogen peroxide for Fenton oxidation, and pH for hydroxide precipitation, respectively. As a result, the $CN^-$ removal efficiency in our experimental wastewater by the Fenton oxidation was 81.2%~99% at its optimal conditions of pH ranging from 3 to 5 and reaction time of 30 minutes. And the optimal dosage of hydrogen peroxide and ferrous sulfate was 214, $428mg/{\ell}$, 107, $161mg/{\ell}$, 214, $214mg/{\ell}$ and 520, $500mg/{\ell}$, respectively when the molar ratio of $Cu^{2+}$:CN is 2:1, 1:1, 1:2, 1:10, and was 900, $1050mg/{\ell}$ when the molar ratio of $Cu^+$: CN is 1:10. When the copper was precipitated by sodium hydroxide after Fenton oxidation, the copper removal efficiency in the wastewater at pH 7 was 98.92%, 98.52%, 92.46%, 90.6% and 95%, respectively.

  • Statement of the problem: Under anatomical limitations on maxillary posterior region, a poor crown-to root ratio acting on dental implants can result in undesirable stress in surrounding bone, which in turn can cause bone defects and eventual failure of implants. Purpose: The purpose is to compare stress distribution due to different crown-root ratio and effect of splinting between natural teeth and implants in maxillary molar area under different loads. Material and methods: Analysis of stress arising supporting bone of the natural teeth and the implant was made with 3-dimensional finite element method. The model simulated naturel teeth was made with 2nd premolar and 1st molar in the maxillary molar region (Model T). The model simulated implants placed on same positions with two parallel implants of Straumann Dental Implant cemented abutment (Model I). Each model was designed in different crown-root ratio (0.7:1, 1:1, 1.25:1) and set cement type gold crown to make it non-splinted or splinted. After that, 300 N force was loaded to each model in five ways (Load 1: middle of occlusal table, Load 2: middle of buccal cusp, Load 3: middle of lingual cusp, Load 4: horizontal load to buccal cusp of anterior abutment only, Load 5: horizontal load to middle of buccal cusp of each abutment), and stress distribution was analyzed. Results and conclusion: On all occasions, stress was concentrated at the cervical region of the implant. Under load 1, 2 and 3, stress was not increased even when crown-root ratio increases, but under load 4 and 5, when crown-root ratio increases, stress also increased. There was difference in stress values between natural teeth and implants when crown-root ratio gradually increases; In case of natural teeth, splinting decreased stress under vertical and horizontal loads. In case of implants, splinting decreased stress under vertical loads 1,2 and 3, but increased maximal stress under loads 2 and 3. Under horizontal loads, splinting decreased stress, however the effect of splinting decreased under load 5 than load 4. Furthermore, the stress was increased, when crown-root ratio is 1.25:1. Clinical implications: This limited finite element study suggests that the stress on supporting bone may be increased under non-axial loads and poor crown-root ratio. Under poor crown-root ratio, excessive stress was generated at the cervical region of the implant, and decreased splinting effect for stress distribution, which can be related to clinical failure.

  • Nanosize $SiO_2$composite particles have been synthesized within reverse micelle via metal alkoxide hydrolysis and condensation. The size of the particles can be controlled by manipulating the relative rates of the hydrolysis and condensation reactions of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) within the microemulsion. The average size of synthesized particles was about in the size range 14~30nm. The effects of synthesis parameters, such as the molar ratio of water to TEOS, the molar ratio of water to surfactant, and the amount of base catalyst, are discussed.

  • Micellar enhanced ultrafiltration (MEUF) was used to remove cadmium from an aqueous solution using sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as a surfactant. Operational parameters such as initial permeate flux, retentate pressure, initial cadmium concentration, pH solution, molecular weight cut-off (MWCO), and molar ratio of cadmium to SDS were investigated. Removal efficiency of cadmium from an aqueous solution increased with an increase of retentate pressure, pH solution and molar ratio of cadmium to SDS, and decreased with an increase of initial permeate flux. Higher removal efficiency of cadmium from the aqueous solution was achieved using lower MWCO (smaller membrane pore size). Under optimized experimental condition, cadmium removal efficiency reached 74.6 % within an hour. Using MEUF-ACF hybrid process the removal efficiency of both cadmium and SDS was found to be over 90%.

  • The optimum conditions for the most effective precipitate of surfactant complex of sodium alkylsulfate with cetylpyridinium chloride were studied in the aqueous solution. The parameters such as the alkyl chain length of anionic surfactants, molar ratio of two surfactants, temperature and the concentration of added NaCl in the aqueous solution were correlatively studied for the productivity of the precipitate formation. By the productivity, the optimum conditions to produce complex of anionic surfactant with cationic surfactant were the longer alkyl chain, equivalent molar ratio between anionic and cationic surfactants, 0 $^{\circ}C$ and 1.5 M NaCl.

  • The $BaTiO_3$ powders were synthesized by GNP (Glycine-Nitrate process). The powders were prepared using carbonate and alkoxide as starting materials and nitric acid was used as a solvent for starting materials as well as an oxidant for combustion. the effects of aggregates in $BaTiO_3$ powders on green densities, sintering and dielectric characteristics were investigated. When the glycine/cation molar ratio was 1.2, reactivity of self-combustion was most intensive and the degree of aggregates after calcination was low. On sintering at $1400^{\circ}C$, maximum theoretical relative density(94.99%%0 was obtained in case of 1.2 molar ratio of glycine/cation. The dielectric constant of this sintered $BaTiO_3$ was 1919.
