Permeable polymer concrete can be applied to roads, sidewalks, river embankments, drain pipes, conduits, retaining walls, yards, parking lots, plazas, interlocking blocks, etc. This study was to explore a possibility of using blast furnace slag powder and stone dust of industrial by-products as fillers for Eco-permeable polymer concrete. Different mix proportions were tried to find an optimum mix proportion of the Ecopermeable polymer concrete. The tests were carried out at $20{\pm}1^{circ}C$ and $60{\pm}2\%$ relative humidity. At 7 days of curing, unit weight, coefficient of permeability, dynamic modulus of elasticity, compressive, flexural and splitting tensile strengths ranged between $1,821{\~}1,955 kg/m^{3}$, $0.056{\~}0.081\;cm/s$, $114{\times}0^{2}{\~}157{\times}10^{2}\;MPa,\;17.6{\~}24.7\;MPa,\;5.98{\~}7.94\;MPa\;and\;3.43{\~}4.70\;MPa$, respectively. It was concluded that the blast furnace slag powder and stone dust can be used in the Eco-permeable polymer concrete.
The dynamic magneto-mechanical behaviors in a type of iron-nickel-based ferromagnetic alloy with constant elasticity were investigated as a function of both the DC bias magnetic field ($H_{dc}$) and the frequency. The rectangular plate-like samples were excited to vibrate at a half-wavelength, longitudinal resonance by an AC magnetic field superimposed with various $H_{dc}$. The experimental results found that the strain coefficient at resonance reached 819.34 nm/A and the effective mechanical quality factor ($Q_m$) was greater than 2000. The ratio of the maximum variation of the Young's modulus over $H_{dc}$ to the value of the Young's modulus at a zero bias field was only ${\sim}0.83%o$ because of the so-called constant elasticity. The resonant strain coefficients and $Q_m$ are strongly dependent on $H_{dc}$, which indicates a promising potential for use in DC and quasistatic magnetic field sensing.
The bending and compression strength properties of two types Rhus verniciflua specimens, which made of no heat-treated wood and heat-treated wood for urushiol extraction, were measured. The heat-treated specimens were finger-jointed with either resorcinol-phenol or polyurethane resin adhesives, and the vertical type bending strength property was also measured in these specimens. The results obtained are as follows ; 1. The correlation coefficient between the compression strength and specific gravity in the specimens of no heat-treated and heat-treated wood was high. However there was no difference in compression strength property as affected by heat treatment. 2 The correlation coefficient between the bending strength and specific gravity in the specimens of no heat-treated and heat-treated wood was also high. However, there was no difference in bending strength property as affected by heat treatment. 3 The bending test showed high correlation between modulus of elasticity and modulus of rupture for the specimens made of no heat-treated and heat-treated wood. However, there was no difference in bending strength property between the specimens made of heat-treated and no heat-treated wood. 4. The efficiencies of bending strength test on the finger-jointed specimens of heat-treated wood with resorcinol-phenol and polyurethane resin adhesives were 0.85, 0.81. respectively.

Elastic-factor of elastic epoxy were investigated by TMA (Thermomechanical Analysis), DMTA (Dynamic Mechanical Thermal Analysis), TGA (Thermogravimetric Analysis) and FESEM (Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope) for structure-images analysis as toughness-investigation to improve brittleness of existing epoxy resin. A range of measurement temperature of the TMA and DMTA was changed from -20($^{\circ}C$) to $200^{\circ}(C)$, and TGA was changed from $0^{\circ}(C)$ to $600^{\circ}(C)$. Glass transition temperature (Tg) of elastic epoxy was measured through thermal analysis devices with the content of 0(phr), 20(phr) and 35(phr). Also, thermal expansion coefficient (a), high temperature, modulus and loss factor were investigated through TMA, TGA, and DMTA. In addition, the structure of specimens was analyzed through FESEM, and then elastic-factor of elastic epoxy was visually showed by FESEM. As thermal analysis results, 20(phr) was more excellent than 30(phr) thermally and mechanically. Specially, thermal expansion coefficient, high temperature, modulus, and damping properties were excellent. By structure-images analysis through FESEM, we found elastic-factor of elastic epoxy that is not existing epoxy, and proved high impact.

[ $Si_3N_4$ ] composites have been extensively studied for engineering ceramics, because it has excellent room and high temperature strength, wear resistance properties, good resistance to oxidation, and good thermal and chemical stability. In the present work, carbon short fiber reinforced $Si_3N_4$ ceramics were fabricated by hot press method in $N_2$ atmosphere at $1800^{\circ}C$ using $Al_2O_3\;and\;Y_2O_3$ as sintering additives. Content of carbon short fiber was $0\%,\;0.1\%\;and\;0.3\%$. The composites were evaluated in terms of density, flexural strength and elastic modulus through the 3-point bending test at room temperature. Also, The wear behavior was determined by the pin on disk wear tester using silicon nitride ball. Experimental density and flexural strength decreased with increasing content of carbon fiber. But specific modulus increased with increasing content of carbon fiber. In addition, friction coefficient and specific wear loss decreased with increasing content of carbon short fiber by reason of interfacial defects between matrix and fiber.

Field and laboratory tests were performed to investigate the swelling(L value) and shrinkage modulus (C value) of soil and rock mixtures using 2 sites. According to test results, when disturbed soil and rock were mixed with same amount (5:5), the maximum density was achieved and showed 19% and 18% increased at each site comparing with the unit weight of rock only. Since measured L values of mixtures were overestimated about 4 to 11% compare to estimated values based on the conventional method. While C values were underestimated about 13~20% compare to conventional values due to the development of compacting equipments and effective construction management. When rock and soil were mixed in the ratio of 5 to 5, the unit weight of the mixture was higher than that of other mixtures and rock or soil only.

Recycled aggregates show high water absorption rate compared to natural aggregates due to microcrack developed during production process and adhered cement pastes at the surface of recycled aggregates. This leads to the deterioration of mechanical properties and slow work flow. Currently it is getting hard to satisfy high demand for natural aggregates. Utilizing recycled aggregate more widely may be a substitutable countermeasure for the shortage of natural resources. In this study, two-stage mixing approach(TSMA) suggested by Tam et al. is used to produce recycled aggregate concrete(RAC) with 100 % replacement of coarse natural aggregate and tests for compressive strength, elastic modulus, and chloride ion diffusion coefficient are conducted to find out the effect of TSMA compared to normal mixing method. According to experimental result compressive strength and elastic modulus of RAC with TSMA was superior to those of RAC with normal mixing irrespective of water-cement ratio, and in some cases mechanical properties of RAC with TSMA approached to those of natural aggregate concrete(NAC). However, chloride ion diffusion coefficient of RAC was higher than that of NAC. This illustrates that TSMA is not an appropriate method in reducing chloride ion diffusion coefficient, resulting in inconsequential contribution of TSMA to the durability of RAC.
Magnetorheological elastomers (MREs) are a type of “smart” material, and their properties can be controlled rapidly and reversibly under the influence of an external stimulus. The application of an external magnetic field can change the shear modulus, hardness, and friction coefficient of MREs. The friction can cause vibration; moreover, the vibration can affect friction. The change of friction depends on the relative motion, normal force, roughness of the rubbing surfaces, material type, temperature, lubrication, relative humidity, and vibration condition. As MREs are a type of “smart material,” their friction coefficient can be reduced by applying an external magnetic field—the applications of this feature in engineering have been widely studied. However, the friction properties of MREs under vibration have not been tested to date. In this study, MRE samples and a reciprocating friction tester were fabricated. The friction coefficient was measured to evaluate the friction properties under various vibration conditions; subsequently, the wear depth and wear surface profile of the MRE were observed in order to evaluate the wear properties. The results show that the friction coefficient of the MREs decreased when a magnetic field was applied. Moreover, the friction coefficient decreased when the vibrational amplitudes increased. The wear depth of the MRE also decreased as the vibrational amplitudes increased.
For a building with a dominant windward wall opening, the wind-induced internal pressure response can be described by a second-order non-linear differential equation. However, there are two ill-defined parameters in the governing equation: the inertial coefficient $C_I$ and the loss coefficient $C_L$. Lack of knowledge of these two parameters restricts the practical use of the governing equation. This study was primarily focused on finding an accurate reference value for $C_I$, and the paper presents a systematic investigation of the factors influencing the inertial coefficient for a wind-tunnel model building including: opening configuration and location, wind speed and direction, approaching flow turbulence, the model material, and the installation method. A numerical model was used to simulate the volume deformation under internal pressure, and to predict the bulk modulus of an experimental model. In considering the structural flexibility, an alternative approach was proposed to ensure accurate internal volume distortions, so that similarity of internal pressure responses between model-scale and full-scale building was maintained. The research showed 0.8 to be a reasonable standard value for the inertial coefficient.
It is crucial to decide reasonably the parameters necessary for design through research on the characteristics of rock in order to analyze stability of rock structure. This article has conducted both pressure meter test, uniaxial and triaxial compression test to the areas of andesite or tuff located in local regions such as Yeosu, Gwangju, Yangsan, Busan, and Daejeon and has comparatively analyzed previously proposed estimative formulas. According to the result of estimating the deformation modulus through using the damping coefficient suggested by Nicholson & Bieniawski, when RMR is less than 60, it is desirable to use the result of the pressure meter test considering the damping coefficient. If the RMR value is over 60, however, the formula suggested by Kim Gyo-won has been proved to be the most applicable. Moreover, according to the result of comparing the RMR, adhesion, and angle of internal friction, both the adhesion and angle of internal friction best correspond to the formula proposed by Tsuchiya. Comparatively analyzing the relations between the rock deformation modulus and RMR and also suggesting the formula of calculating the shear strength parameter to use the RMR value, this study did not include the deformation modulus and shear strength parameter as factors to decide the RMR index. Since result can differ by several factors, it will be necessary afterwards to suggest practical estimative formulas applicable to the actual spots of Korea.
