  • Phtalocyanine derivative thin films were accumlated on ITO glasses by a Langmuir-Blodgett method. The layered structure and chromogenic properties of the films were investigated. We observed color changes which took place probably according to modulations of electronic distributions in the molecule. The novel chromogenic mechanism which can be applied to future FPD's was proposed.

  • Organic light emitting transistors (OLET) which are vertically combined with the organic static induction transistor (OSIT) and organic light emitting diode (OLED) are fabricated and the device characteristics are investigated. High luminance modulations by relatively low gate voltages are obtained. In order to realize the flexible electronic circuits and displays, we have fabricated OSIT on plastic substrates. The OSIT fabricated on plastic substrate show almost same characteristics comparing with those of nonflexible OSIT on glass substrate. The OLET described here is a suitable element for flexible sheet displays.

  • We derived the average bit error rate (BER) of coherent free-space optical (FSO) systems with digital binary phase shift keying (BPSK) modulations over atmospheric turbulence channels with a gamma-gamma distribution. To obtain a generalized derivation in a closed-form expression, we used special integrals and transformations of the Meijer G function. Furthermore, we numerically analyzed and simulated the average BER behavior according to the average SNR for different turbulence strengths. Simulation results are demonstrated to confirm the analytical results.

  • The analysis of wave parametric characteristics in sea regions in the vicinity of Korean Peninsula have been carried out using the third generation wave model, WAVEWATCH-III (Tolman, 1999) and four observed buoy data of Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA). Significant wave height increases about 2-3 hours later after the increase of wind speed. Maximum correlation coefficient between two parameters appears in Donghae buoy data, which is at off-shore region. When land breeze occurs, it can be found that the correlation coefficient decreases. Time differences between wind speeds and wave heights correspond to significant tidal periods at all of the buoy locations except for Donghae buoy. After verifying the WAVEWATCH-III model results by the comparing with observed buoy data, we have carried out numerical experiments near the Kuroshio current and East Sea areas, and then reconfirmed that when there exist an opposite strong current in the propagation direction of the waves or wind direction, wave height and length get higher and shorter, respectively and vice versa. It has been shown that these modulations of wave parameters are considerable when wind speed is week or mean current is relatively strong, and corresponding values have been represented.

  • This paper presents a low-complexity and high-throughput symbol detector for two-spatial-stream multiple-input multiple-output systems based on the modified maximum-likelihood symbol detection algorithm. In the proposed symbol detector, the cost function is calculated incrementally employing a multi-cycle architecture so as to eliminate the complex multiplications for each symbol, and the slicing operations are performed hierarchically according to the range of constellation points by a pipelined architecture. The proposed architecture exhibits low hardware complexity while supporting complicated modulations such as 256 QAM. In addition, various modulations and antenna configurations are supported flexibly by reconfiguring the pipeline for the slicing operation. The proposed symbol detector is implemented with 38.7K logic gates in a $0.11-{\mu}m$ CMOS process and its throughput is 166 Mbps for $2{\times}$3 16-QAM and 80Mbps for $2{\times}3$ 64-QAM where the operating frequency is 478 MHz.

  • To improve the BER of OFDM on a fading channel, a low-density parity check coded OFDM system is proposed in this paper. LDPC codes are decoded with Sum-Product or Belief Propagation Algorithm known by probability propagation algorithm. When LDPC codes are applied to OFDM system, the BER performance is dependant on the iteration number of decoding. To improve the spectral efficiency, multi-level modulations are used in mobile communication system. But, It is not clear how to decode LDPC code used in OFDM with multi-level modulations. In the paper, a decoding algorithm is described for LDPC coded OFDM with MPSK. When use the proposed decoding algorithm, we get the good BER for AWGN and a Fading Channel. Simulation results show that the proposed decoding algorithm is confirmed LDPC coded OFDM with MPSK.

  • By employing multiple-scale expansion techniques, the diffraction of sinusoidally-modulated nonlinear Stokes waves by a stationary thin wedge has been studied within the framework of potential theory. It is found that the evolution of diffracted waves can be described by the Zakharov equation to the leading order and it can be replaced by the cubic $Schr\ddot{o}dinger$ equation with an additional linear term for stable modulations. Computations are made for the cubic $Schr\ddot{o}dinger$ equation with different values of nonlinear and dispersion parameters. Numerical results well reflect the experimental findings in the amplitude and width of generated stem waves. It is numerically confirmed that the nonlinearity dominates the wave field, while the dispersion hardly affects the wave evolution, and stem waves are likely to be formed for steep incident waves in the case of stable sinusoidal modulations.

  • Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) transmits high-speed data by splitting the transmission bandwidth into a number of subcarriers. The bandwidth of each subcarrier is ensured to be smaller than the coherence bandwidth. This paper presents an OFDM system incorporated with the Carrier Interferometry (CI) codes to improve the performance by enhancing frequency diversity effect. The performances of CI-OFDM with multilevel modulations are investigated in highly dispersive fading channels. For the investigation of performance improvement of CI-OFDM, a simulator has been developed using a well-known SPW simulation platform. The simulation results show that the CI-OFDM provides both performance improvement and robustness against dispersive fading channel behavior. The performance of CI-OFBM with multilevel modulations demonstrates that CI-OFDM outperforms a traditional OFDM system, particularly in highly dispersive channels. With a relatively large delay spread of 151㎱ compared to the guard interval of 800㎱, CI-OFDM provides a BER of 10$^{-3}$ if sufficient signal power is present.
