The Modified Block Matching Algorithm for a Hand Tracking of an HCI system (HCI 시스템의 손 추적을 위한 수정 블록 정합 알고리즘)

  • A GUI (graphical user interface) has been a dominant platform for HCI (human computer interaction). A GUI - based interaction has made computers simpler and easier to use. The GUI - based interaction, however, does not easily support the range of interaction necessary to meet users' needs that are natural. intuitive, and adaptive. In this paper, the modified BMA (block matching algorithm) is proposed to track a hand in a sequence of an image and to recognize it in each video frame in order to replace a mouse with a pointing device for a virtual reality. The HCI system with 30 frames per second is realized in this paper. The modified BMA is proposed to estimate a position of the hand and segmentation with an orientation of motion and a color distribution of the hand region for real - time processing. The experimental result shows that the modified BMA with the YCbCr (luminance Y, component blue, component red) color coordinate guarantees the real - time processing and the recognition rate. The hand tracking by the modified BMA can be applied to a virtual reclity or a game or an HCI system for the disable.

CD34 Monoclonal Antibody-Immobilization on Polyurethane Surface by Poly(PEGA-co-BMA) Coating (PEGA/BMA 공중합체의 코팅을 통해 CD34 단일클론항체가 고정화된 폴리우레탄 표면)

  • A polyurethane (PU) surface enabling in vivo endothelialization via endothelial progenitor cell (EPC) capture was prepared for cardiovascular applications. To introduce CD34 monoclonal antibody (mAb) inducing EPC adhesion onto a surface, poly (poly (ethylene glycol) acrylate-co-butyl methacrylate) and poly (PEGA-co-BMA) were synthesized and then coated on a surface of PU, followed by immobilizing CD34 mAb. $^1H$-NMR analysis demonstrated that poly(PEGA-co-BMA) copolymers with a desired composition were synthesized. Poly(PEGA-co-BMA)-coated PU was much more effective for the immobilization of CD34 mAb, comparing with PEG-grafted PU prepared in our previous study, as demonstrated by that surface density and activity of CD34 mAb increased over 32 times. Physico-chemical properties of modified PU surfaces were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), water contact angle, and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The results demonstrated that the poly(PEGA-co-BMA) coating was effective for CD34 mAb immobilization and feasible for applying to cardiovascular biomaterials.

A New Error Concealment Based on Edge Detection (에지검출을 기반으로 한 새로운 에러 은닉 기법)

  • In transmitting compressed video bit-stream over Internet, packet losses cause error propagations in both spatial and temporal domains, which in turn leads to severe degradation I image quality. In this paper, a new error concealment algorithm, called EBMA(Edge Detection based Boundary Matching Algorithm), is proposed to repair damaged portions of the video frames in the receiver. Conventional BMA(Boundary Matching Algorithm) assumes that the pixels on the boundary of the missing block and its neighboring blocks are very similar, but has no consideration of edges across the boundary. In our approach, the edges are detected across the boundary of the lost or erroneous block. Once the orientation of each edge is found, only the pixel difference along the expected edges across the boundary is measured instead of the calculation of difference along the expected edges across the boundary is measured instead of the calculation of differences between all adjacent pixels on the boundary Therefore, the proposed approach needs very few computations and the experiment shows and improvement of the performance over the conventional BMA in terms of both subjective and objective quality of video sequences.

Facial Feature Tracking With Modified Windows (수정 윈도우를 이용한 얼굴 특징점의 추적)

  • 본 논문은 얼굴의 특징점 추적을 위하여 얼굴 회전 변환과의 크기 변환을 고려한 BMA(Block matching alogorithm)을 이용한 방법을 제안한다. 우선 얼굴의 크기 변화를 구하기 위하여 얼굴 영역을 분리하여 그 면적을 구한다. 이 면적을 이전 프레임에서 구한 얼굴 영역의 면적과 비교하여 크기 비례를 계산한다. 다음으로 각 특징점을 중심으로 하는 8방위 영역의 화소들로 집합을 설정한다. 집합을 설정할 때에는 얼굴의 크기 변화를 고려하여 영역 내 화소들을 포함하는 양을 수정한다. 그리고 새로운 영상에서 화소 집합간의 거리가 가장 작은 화소를 새로운 특징점으로 지정한다. 이 때, 회전 변화를 고려하여 화소 집합의 순서를 순차적으로 바꿔 집합 간 거리를 산출한다. 제안하는 방법은 회전과 크기 변환에 강인한 특성을 보일 뿐 아니라, 단순한 움직임 예측 방법인 BMA보다도 쉽고 빠르게 계산된다.

GPU-based Stereo Matching Algorithm with the Strategy of Population-based Incremental Learning

  • To solve the general problems surrounding the application of genetic algorithms in stereo matching, two measures are proposed. Firstly, the strategy of simplified population-based incremental learning (PBIL) is adopted to reduce the problems with memory consumption and search inefficiency, and a scheme for controlling the distance of neighbors for disparity smoothness is inserted to obtain a wide-area consistency of disparities. In addition, an alternative version of the proposed algorithm, without the use of a probability vector, is also presented for simpler set-ups. Secondly, programmable graphics-hardware (GPU) consists of multiple multi-processors and has a powerful parallelism which can perform operations in parallel at low cost. Therefore, in order to decrease the running time further, a model of the proposed algorithm, which can be run on programmable graphics-hardware (GPU), is presented for the first time. The algorithms are implemented on the CPU as well as on the GPU and are evaluated by experiments. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm offers better performance than traditional BMA methods with a deliberate relaxation and its modified version in terms of both running speed and stability. The comparison of computation times for the algorithm both on the GPU and the CPU shows that the former has more speed-up than the latter, the bigger the image size is.

A Study using Variable Blocks of Boundary Matching Method for H.264 to MPEG-2 Video Transcoding (가변블럭의 경계정합방법을 이용한 H.264 to MPEG-2 Video Transcoding 연구)

  • After the efficiency of H.264 video compression has been announced, it replaced MPEG-2 standard in several applications. So transcoding methods of MPEG-2 to H.264 have been studying because there are variety devices and contents followed by MPEG-2. Although H.264 supported various service such as IPTV, DMB, digital broadcasting etc, but users using MPEG-2 devices cannot accessible to them. This paper propose H.264 to MPEG-2 transcoding for users of MPEG-2 devices without displacement H.264. The proposed method predicted a motion vector for MPEG-2 encoder after it extracted from motion vectors of variable blocks in H.264 to improve processing time. Also it predicted a optimal motion vector using modified boundary matching algorithm after grasped a special character for boundary and background of object. The experimental results from proposed method show a considerable reduction in processing time, as much as 65% averagely, with a small objective quality reduction in PSNR.
