The Changing Clothing-Image of Women Politicians in Korea in Relation to the Improvement of Women's Status

  • A person's external image is a non-verbal form of communication, through which the person's tastes, mode of thought, preferences, and overall personality is expressed. The dominant factor in building an external image is clothing, since clothing-images provide the most information about a person in the least amount of time. This study aims to investigate the relationship between the clothing- images of women politicians and the improvement of women's social status in Korea, by focusing on changes in clothing-image of female politicians at public functions throughout modern Korean history, and inquiring into the method of classification concerning aforementioned images. The time period of this study starts from 1945, when the first female political party was established, to the 2008 presidential elections. The methodology of this study consists of literature study of related books, theses and journals, which was jointly conducted with empirical study consisting of the research of news photographs of major daily newspapers. This study confirmed the clothing images of women politicians since liberation till 2000's reflects the directions of women's movement and their status in return. It is especially meaningful that the sudden increase of romantic and feminine images among the women politician in Korea is the reflection of the ideas of postmodern feminism which emphasize the acknowledgement of womanhood and the enjoyment of being a woman as its core.

On the Traditional Dance and Costume in the Toraja

  • The Torajan people who started to receive increased attention from the 1990 are one of the many ethnic groups of Indonesia. This paper intends to examine Torajan Ceremonies practied today in the modern world, driven by the Torajan people's age-old perspective of life and death (and the world after) that comes from their background on traditional lifestyle and (animated) folk religion/belief. It focuses on the ceremonial Dances, which is one of the most important element in Torajan Ceremonies, and gain deeper insight through its costumes and ornaments which traditionally revealed the social status of hosts and performers. In ceremony, the most important division is the classification of ritual into Aluk rampe matallo(life facing ritual ) and Aluk rampe matampu? death ritual). So Traditional Toraja dances may be classified into two genres: life related ritual dances and death ritual dances. Especially the funeral ceremonies in Toraja has been rather more famous on its spectacle aspect to outsiders however its relationships to the broader theme of Torajan Ceremonies and ceremonial dances are very less known and sources on this topic are also very scarce. Fortunately, I was able to witness one of such an ritual event. I did see one kind of the funeral rituals which is the most dramatic and symbolically rich performances in Toraja. Here, a brief account of its will highlight some dimension of ceremony, personfood, and potency in Torajan thought and action.

백화점 실내디자인 이미지의 구성요소 선호도에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Preference for the Components of the Department Store Interior Design Image -Focusing on Women Customers Resident in Seoul-)

  • When a certain particular department store is chosen by customers due to the good image, the department store will have provided for the conditions that it can precede in competition with other department stores. Based upon it, a survey was made of preference for the department store interior design image component. In order to make the department store image better based upon this study results, the designer should remember that department store is possessed of display and circultation planinorder to give consume the good image. And , as a result of analyzing customers' preference for the details of the interior design image component, the area, primary components of the department store space, should take on specialization , though narrow. The circulation should constitute the free flow system. The ornamental illumination should be emphasized for the secondary component of the department store space. The color planing should be made that is oriented to seasonality and products. The floor should finished with wood. The department store interior should be decorated in a modern and simple form. The display of the department store should be made in a fashion that it takes on seasonality and artistry. These measures can be said to be the desirable method to provide a good image for women customers paying a visit to the department store.

Power-based Side-Channel Analysis Against AES Implementations: Evaluation and Comparison

  • From an information security perspective, protecting sensitive data requires utilizing algorithms which resist theoretical attacks. However, treating an algorithm in a purely mathematical fashion or in other words abstracting away from its physical (hardware or software) implementation opens the door to various real-world security threats. In the modern age of electronics, cryptanalysis attempts to reveal secret information based on cryptosystem physical properties, rather than exploiting the theoretical weaknesses in the implemented cryptographic algorithm. The correlation power attack (CPA) is a Side-Channel Analysis attack used to reveal sensitive information based on the power leakages of a device. In this paper, we present a power Hacking technique to demonstrate how a power analysis can be exploited to reveal the secret information in AES crypto-core. In the proposed case study, we explain the main techniques that can break the security of the considered crypto-core by using CPA attack. Using two cryptographic devices, FPGA and 8051 microcontrollers, the experimental attack procedure shows that the AES hardware implementation has better resistance against power attack compared to the software one. On the other hand, we remark that the efficiency of CPA attack depends statistically on the implementation and the power model used for the power prediction.

포스트하위문화 관점의 한국 타투문화 (Tattoo Culture in Korea from the Perspective of Post-subculture)

  • This study investigated the phenomenon of modern people enjoying tattoo culture in Korea from the perspective of post subculture. A qualitative study was conducted using both literature review and in-depth interview methods. For post-subculture perspectives, the theories of Maffesoli (2017) and Thornton (1996), which are suitable for interpreting contemporary tattoo culture, were reviewed in terms of seven concepts: sporadic network, grouping, fluid participation, temporary emotional bond, self-distinction, pursuit of underground culture, and display and concealment. Semi-structured questionnaires were constructed and administered based on the organized characteristics. Five cultural qualities of the tattoo phenomenon in Korea were derived based on post-subculture concepts. Sporadic formation is related to the pattern of inflow into tattoo culture, and "streaming" participation is based on fluid participation and temporary ties. Distinction within subculture is based on self-distinction and pursuit of underground. The costume-playing ordinary concept includes the characteristic of controlling the exposure of tattoos in society. Finally, formation of the consumer tattoo market was newly discovered in Korean tattoo culture.

뷰티메이크업의 입술 디자인이 인상형성에 미치는 영향 (The influence of beauty makeups lips design on the impression formation)

  • 본 연구에서는 뷰티메이크업의 입술 디자인에 따른 인상형상, 선호 입술과 그 이유를 실증분석 하였다. 연구방법은 설문조사법으로 SPSS프로그램을 활용하였다. 연구 결과 입술의 색상과 형태가 인상 형성에 미치는 유의미한 영향을 확인하였으며 입술 화장에 관한 현대인들의 시각을 규명 할 수 있었다. 가장 선호하는 입술색상은 레드, 선호하는 입술의 형태는 표준형이었다. 요인분석 결과 입술 색상 중 레드는 유능성요인이 핑크색상은 사교성 요인이 가장 높게 나타났다. 본 연구가 뷰티디자인의 기초자료로서 활용되기를 기대한다.

20대 여성의 신한복에 대한 인식유형 -전남지역을 중심으로- (Types of Perceptions of the New Hanbok Among Women in Their 20s -Focusing on Jeollanam-do)

  • This study attempted to classify the types of perceptions of the new Hanbok, focusing on female college students in their 20s, and to analyze the characteristics of each type. This study was conducted with the Q methodology and analyzed with the QUANL pc program. The perceptions of the new Hanbok among female college students in their 20s were classified into four types: Type 1: modern/practical, Type 2: convenient/practical, Type 3: temporary/accessible, and Type 4: convenient/traditional. Type 1 emphasized the selection of Western clothing fabric, matching zipper/buttons, and achromatic colors. Type 2 highlighted a design that can be worn as daily clothing by combining materials that are convenient for laundering. Type 3 stressed the operation of new Hanbok rental stores so that it is easy to access and accept new Hanboks in old palaces and Hanok villages. Type 4 required the development of a design that reflects the elements of the traditional Hanbok and is convenient for activity and laundering.

  • 우리나라의 고유한 전통 한지의 우수성을 전 세계적으로 알리기 위한 목적으로, 예술 분야 등에서 폭넓게 활용되고 있는 전통 한지를 소재로 하여 현대적 감각에 맞는 문화상품으로 제작 제시함으로써 '전통의 현대화'를 도모하고자 하였다. 먼저 한지를 소재로 하여 줌치기법에 의한 줌치한지를 만든다. 만든 줌치한지를 제작하고자 하는 문화상품-노트북 케이스, 핸드폰 케이스, 모자 및 가방-에 따라 일정한 폭으로 자른다. 자른 줌치한지를 용도에 따라 평직, 능직 및 헥사곤으로 엮는다. 엮은 줌치한지를 인조 가죽, 면직물, 데님 등과 매치시켜 문화상품을 제작하여 제시하였다.

How Do International Students Idealize Beauty Standards? A Study of Vietnamese Students Living in Korea

  • In the last decade, Korean culture has progressively facilitated the assimilation of appearance-related norms established by modern Korean society among young generations in Vietnam. Of note, Vietnamese consumers residing in Korea, under the influence of diverse sociocultural factors, are aligning themselves with an ideal standard of Korean beauty through cultural adaptation. This study explores how Vietnamese students internalize Korean beauty standards and the resultant negative behavioral reactions. We investigated the effects of sociocultural pressures (media, in-group, and out-group pressure) on risky appearance management and irrational purchase behavior by mediating sociocultural internalization toward appearance. We tested how the mechanism underlying these variables differs based on how long one has resided in Korea. A total of 213 female participants were surveyed online. The research model was tested using structural equation modeling through AMOS 22.0. The findings show that media and out-group pressure significantly increased sociocultural internalization, which led to consumer behavior in the form of risky appearance management and irrational purchases. The influence of internalization on consumption behavior was stronger for short-term residents of Korea. This study contributes to the literature on acculturation by investigating how foreign consumers accept the host country's ideal beauty standards.
