  • Simulation --- The ideal tool for BPR. Work now and CASE tools are static modeling tools. Based on our own customers surveys, we have discovered that the use of process modeling tools thus far has focused on modeling the current(What-Is) state of a business. We have found that 90 percent of reengineering projects, the modeling tools of choice have been flowcharting tools. Static models offer help in understanding the overall nature of an existing process. However, static models can not really help you see the step by step motions towards completion of your goals. In static modeling, you see two pictures in time, usually taken at the current state and final state models of your reengineering project. Static models are usually not object oriented, therefore can not show facility or office layout and movement of entities and objects throughout the facility. However, this does not mean that static modeling does not have its application nor add value to the user as in a few success stories. Simulation helps the team analyze the complex aspects of the project. Many times a plan that looks good on paper might turn out entirely different when put into action. Therefore, simulation helps you look at how situations might work before actual implementation. In particular, computer simulation models help you view a reengineered condition before they are rolled-out. Items such as a lead time and resource allocation.

  • This paper proposes an intelligent simulation generator, called INSIMS, for manufacturing systems. The INSIMS provides an interactive dialogue interactive dialogue interface and code generation tools for modeling and code genration of manufacturing systems. The interactive dialogue interface helps non-expert simulation modeler specify manufacturing systems with ease. After completing the model construction processes, the modeling specifications are automatically converted into SLAM II codes by code generation tools. To validate the usefulness of INSIMS and to illustrate the modeling processes, an example system has been presented.

  • Large generator of power plant is very important. In order to protect large generator from faults, digital protective relay or IED is required. However, all protective relays for generators of the domestic power plant are operated by foreign products. And now, for technological independence from foreign and improvement of import substitution effect, IEDs using domestic technology are being developed. To evaluate performance of developing next-generation power devices, the study of the dynamic characteristics of the power plant, generator system modeling, fault simulation and analysis, should be considered. Specially, To obtain IEEE Standards COMTRADE format for relay operation test, generator system modeling and fault simulation using PSCAD/EMTDC tools must be preceded. Until now, a complete modeling of generator internal windings and fault simulation techniques dose not exist. In this paper, for evaluation performance of relay elements of developing IED, the generator system modeling and various faults simulation using PSCAD/EMTDC tools were performed. And then, the various transient phenomena through obtained relaying signal of developed modeling were analyzed.

  • The energy efficient design of the multiple stock housing is very important not only to save energy but also to increase sustainability in a whole city because the multiple stock housing type is dominated in the major residential supply markets in Korea. During the early design phase of the multiple stock housing type, the architect need convenient and accurate tools for evaluating energy consumptions based on building types rapidly. Building Information Modeling(BIM) is introduced as useful tool systems providing interoperability between 3rd dimensional modeling tools and environmental engineering analysis tools, and could reduce time and cost for unnecessary modeling works in the analysis. However, it is still hard to apply to building design practice and integrated energy simulation techniques because interoperability using industrial standard file formats such as IFC and bXML is still underdeveloped. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to perform the building energy simulations, to compare the results on typical building types in multiple stock housing based on BIM, and to clear the problems using industrial standard file formats between 3rd dimensional modeling and building energy simulation software. In addition, through comparisons with simulation results according to the typical building types such as building forms, orientations, and building stories, the interrelation ship and characteristics of BIM based building energy simulation software are analysed and evaluated.

  • Counter Fire Operations can be characterized as having a system of systems that key features include situational awareness, command and control systems and highly responsive strike achieved by precision weapons. Current modeling methodology cannot provide an appropriate methodology for a system of systems and utilizes modeling and simulation tools to implement analytic options which can be time consuming and expensive. We explain developing methodology and tools for the effectiveness analysis of the counter fire operations under Network Centric Warfare Environment and suggest how to support a efficient decision making with the methodology and tools. Theater Counter Fire Operations tools consist of Enemy block, ISR block, C2 block and Shooter block. For the convenience of using by domain expert or non simulation expert, it is composed of the environments that each parameter and algorithm easily can be altered by user.

  • Agent-based modeling and simulation (ABMS) is a computational method for analyzing research targets through observations of agent-to-agent interactions, and can be applied to multidimensional policy experiments in various fields of social sciences to support policy and decision making. Recently, according to increasing complexity of society and the rapid growth of collected data, the need for high-speed processing is considered to be more important in this field. For this reason, in the ABMS research field, a scalable and large-scale computing infrastructure is becoming an essential element, and cloud computing has been considered a promising infrastructure of ABMS. This paper surveys the technology trends of ABMS tools, cloud computing-based modeling, and simulation studies, and forecasts the use of cloud-computing infrastructure for future modeling and simulation tools. Although fundamental studies are underway to apply and operate cloud computing in the areas of modeling and simulation, new and additional studies are required to devise an optimal cloud computing infrastructure to satisfy the needs of large-scale ABMS.

  • Some simulation tools have been developed to support business process reengineering. These tools can be used to not only analyze an as-is model of the existing process but also assess the potential value and feasibility of to-be models. But most of them are restricted to analyzing and redesign of the workflow only. Little attention is paid to the organization of people and their roles. This paper Presents a new methodology for business process simulation modeling and analysis. The methodology is based on the concepts of roles and customer-supplier chains. So the proposed methodology allows for tracking people and their roles affected by reengineering the business process. It enables one to analyze and evaluate not only workflow, but roles that are part of the flow. This paper developed a simulator to systematically construct simulation models and conduct simulations easily and efficiently. A case study is also presented as an illustrative example.

  • Modeling and simulation technology is being used in various fields. Especially in the field of military, Simulation-Based Acquisition (SBA) is recognized as a essential policy. To effectively carry out SBA, modeling and simulation techniques should be applied in the whole life-cycle for the weapon system development, and the framework and tools which can help the rapid component development and reusability are needed. In this research, we use the simulation framework based on modeling formalism for enhancement of reusability and a GUI-based modeling environment for rapid M&S component development. The Proposed framework can act as plug-in components on the basis of XML-based object model, so that the flexible design is possible for the change of the model and simulation structure. In addition, our methods are effective to implement the functions for supporting simulation such as the model data logging and communication with external systems. In this paper, we describe an architecture and functions for the framework and tools.

  • In this paper, the design of WDM network using the traffic estimation modeling is implemented. Because of the lack of data of real traffic volumes, the information of statistic data is used. Using the modeling results, the WDM channels are assinged for each node, and the network is simulated using OPNET simulation tools. Here, we investigate the shortest routing scheme using OPNET simulation tools. As a result the realistic WDM network design for Korea topology is proposed.

  • As wind turbine technology and control has advanced over the last decade, this has led to a high penetration of wind turbines into the power system. Whether it be for a large wind turbine or an offshore wind farm with hundreds of MW power capacity, the electrical system has become more and more important in controlling the interaction between the mechanical system of the wind turbine and the main power system. The presence of power electronics in wind turbines improves their controllability with respect not only to its mechanical loads but also to its power quality. This paper presents an overview of a developed simulation platform for the modeling, design and optimization of wind turbines. The ability to simulate the dynamic behavior of wind turbines and the wind turbine grid interaction using four simulation tools (Matlab, Saber, DIgSILENT and HAWC) is investigated, improved and extended.
