  • This paper describes performance evaluation using fixed-point Matlab modeling and simulation, and hardware design of LDPC decoder which is based on Improved Normalized Min-Sum(INMS) decoding algorithm. The designed LDPC decoder supports 19 block lengths(576~2304) and 6 code rates(1/2, 2/3A, 2/3B, 3/4A, 3/4B, 5/6) of IEEE 802.16e mobile WiMAX standard. Considering hardware complexity, it is designed using a block-serial(partially parallel) architecture which is based on layered decoding scheme. A DFU based on sign-magnitude arithmetic is adopted to minimize hardware area. Hardware design is optimized by using INMS decoding algorithm whose performance is better than min-sum algorithm.

  • In this paper, we introduce a highly efficient data structure that effectively captures the multipath phenomenon needed for accurate propagation modeling and fast propagation prediction. The proposed object representation procedure is called 'circular representation (CR)' of microwave masking objects such as buildings, to improve over the conventional vector representation (VR) form in fast ray tracing. The proposed CR encapsulates a building with a circle represented by a center point and radius. In this configuration, the CR essentially functions as the basic building block for higher geometric structures, enhancing the efficiency more than when VR is used alone. The simulation results indicate that the proposed CR scheme reduces the computational load proportionally to the number of potential scattering objects while its hierarchical structure achieves about 50% of computational load reduction in the hierarchical octree structure.

  • Distributed Memory Machine(DMM) is necessary for the effective computation of the data which is complicated and very large. Task scheduling is a method that reduces the communication time among tasks to reduce the total execution time of application program and is very important for the improvement of DMM. Task Duplicated based Scheduling(TDS) method improves execution time by reducing communication time of tasks. It uses clustering method which schedules tasks of the large communication time on the same processor. But there is a problem that cannot optimize communication time between task sending data and task receiving data. Hence, this paper proposes a new method which solves the above problem in TDS. Modified Task Duplicated based Scheduling(MTDS) method which can approximately optimize the communication time between task sending data and task receiving data by checking the optimal condition, resulted in the minimization of task execution time by reducing the communication time among tasks. Also system modeling shows that task execution time of MTDS is about 70% faster than that of TDS in the best case and the same as the result of TDS in the worst case. It proves that MTDS method is better than TDS method.

  • In this study, numerical experiments were carried out to estimate the SCR De-NOx performance in DOC plus SCR systems. The SCR De-NOx phenomena are described by Langmuir-Hinshelwood reaction scheme. After validating the present approach by comparing the present results with the experimental results, such various parameters as space velocity, $H_2O$ concentration, $NO_2$/NOx ratio and relative volume of DOC are explored to increase the SCR De-NOx performance. The results indicate that SCR De-NOx performance largely depends on space velocity and $NO_2$/NOx ratio, especially below $200^{\circ}C$. SCR De-NOx performance is seriously affected by relative volume of DOC with SCR due to increasing in $NO_2$/NOx ratio at below $250^{\circ}C$.

  • By estimating probability distributions of the good solutions in the current population, some researchers try to find the optimal solution more efficiently. Particularly, finite mixtures of distributions have a very useful role in dealing with complex problems. However, it is difficult to choose the number of components in the mixture models and merge superior partial solutions represented by each component. In this paper, we propose a new continuous evolutionary optimization algorithm with distribution estimation by variational Bayesian mixtures of factor analyzers. This technique can estimate the number of mixtures automatically and combine good sub-solutions by sampling new individuals with the latent variables. In a comparison with two probabilistic model-based evolutionary algorithms, the proposed scheme achieves superior performance on the traditional benchmark function optimization. We also successfully estimate the parameters of S-system for the dynamic modeling of biochemical networks.

  • Small cell deployment offers a low-cost solution for the boosted traffic demand in heterogeneous cellular networks (HCNs). Besides improved spatial spectrum efficiency and energy efficiency, future HCNs are also featured with the trend of network architecture convergence and feasibility for flexible mobile applications. To achieve these goals, dual connectivity (DC) is playing a more and more important role to support control/user-plane splitting, which enables maintaining fixed control channel connections for reliability. In this paper, we develop a tractable framework for the downlink SINR analysis of DC assisted HCN. Based on stochastic geometry model, the data-control joint coverage probabilities under multi-frequency and single-frequency tiering are derived, which involve quick integrals and admit simple closed-forms in special cases. Monte Carlo simulations confirm the accuracy of the expressions. It is observed that the increase in mobility robustness of DC is at the price of control channel SINR degradation. This degradation severely worsens the joint coverage performance under single-frequency tiering, proving multi-frequency tiering a more feasible networking scheme to utilize the advantage of DC effectively. Moreover, the joint coverage probability can be maximized by adjusting the density ratio of small cell and macro cell eNBs under multi-frequency tiering, though changing cell association bias has little impact on the level of the maximal coverage performance.

  • Object-based image matching algorithms have been widely used in the image processing and computer vision fields. A variety of applications based on image matching algorithms have been recently developed for object recognition, 3D modeling, video tracking, and biomedical informatics. One prominent example of image matching features is the Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) scheme. However many applications using the SIFT algorithm have implemented based on stand-alone basis, not client-server architecture. In this paper, We initially implemented based on client-server structure by using SIFT algorithms to identify and match objects in biomedical images to provide useful information to the user based on the recently released Mobile platform. The major methodological contribution of this work is leveraging the convenient user interface and ubiquitous Internet connection on Mobile device for interactive delineation, segmentation, representation, matching and retrieval of biomedical images. With these technologies, our paper showcased examples of performing reliable image matching from different views of an object in the applications of semantic image search for biomedical informatics.

  • Wind energy is currently the fastest growing source of renewable energy used for electrical generation around world. Wind farms are adding a significant amount of electrical generation capacity. The increase in the number of wind farms has led to the need for more effective operation and maintenance procedures. Condition Monitoring System(CMS) can be used to aid plant owners in achieving these goals. In this work, systematic design procedure for artificial neural network based normal behavior model which can be applied for fault detection of various devices is proposed. Furthermore, to verify the design method SCADA(Supervisor Control and Data Acquisition) data from 850kW wind turbine system installed in Beaung port were utilized.

  • In this paper, we analyze the performance of a multicode-CDMA system which have been proposed for the multimedia communications. The performance of a multicode-CDMA system, providing good spectrum efficiency as well as serving various bit rates, is analyzed with multipath, frequency selective, slowly fading Rayleigh channel. Also the proposed scheme adopting RAKE receiver with MRC(Maximal Ratio Combine) is advantageous to multipath channel. For a practical channel modeling, the JTC(Joint Technical Committee) recommended channel model(JTC(AIR) 23-065R6) is applied to simulation. The proposed schemehas serial-to-parallel convertor which splits input data stream of 2 Mits/s into 20 branches o 100 kbits/s. From the result of simulation, the case of RAKE receiver with 3 fingers to reduce the system complexity required the relatively large $E_{b}/N_O$ of 0 dB~1.5 dB, compared to the case of RAKE receiver with the number of path finger to keep the average error rate to be $1{\times}10^{-3}$ in channel A.

  • Simulation of flow past a complex marine structure requires a fine resolution in the vicinity of the structure, whereas a coarse resolution is enough far away from it. Therefore, a lot of grid cells may be wasted, when a simple Cartesian grid system is used for an Immersed Boundary Method (IBM). To alleviate this problems while maintaining the Cartesian frame work, we adopted an Adaptive Mesh Refinement (AMR) scheme where the grid system dynamically and locally refines as needed. In this study, We implemented a moving IBM and an AMR technique in our basic 3D incompressible Navier-Stokes solver. A Volume Of Fluid (VOF) method was used to effectively treat the free surface, and a recently developed Lagrangian Dynamic Subgrid-scale Model (LDSM) was incorporated in the code for accurate turbulence modeling. To capture vortex induced vibration accurately, the equation for the structure movement and the governing equations for fluid flow were solved at the same time implicitly. Also, We have developed an interface by using AutoLISP, which can properly distribute marker particles for IBM, compute the geometrical information of the object, and transfer it to the solver for the main simulation. To verify our numerical methodology, our results were compared with other authors' numerical and experimental results for the benchmark problems, revealing excellent agreement. Using the verified code, we investigated the following cases. (1) simulating flow around a floating sphere. (2) simulating flow past a marine structure.
