This study, it was tried to evaluate the asphalt behavior under tensile loading conditions through indirect Brazilian and direct tensile tests, experimentally and numerically. This paper is important from two points of view. The first one, a new test method was developed for the determination of the direct tensile strength of asphalt and its difference was obtained from the indirect test method. The second one, the effects of particle size and loading rate have been cleared on the tensile fracture mechanism. The experimental direct tensile strength of the asphalt specimens was measured in the laboratory using the compression-to-tensile load converting (CTLC) device. Some special types of asphalt specimens were prepared in the form of slabs with a central hole. The CTLC device is then equipped with this specimen and placed in the universal testing machine. Then, the direct tensile strength of asphalt specimens with different sizes of ingredients can be measured at different loading rates in the laboratory. The particle flow code (PFC) was used to numerically simulate the direct tensile strength test of asphalt samples. This numerical modeling technique is based on the versatile discrete element method (DEM). Three different particle diameters were chosen and were tested under three different loading rates. The results show that when the loading rate was 0.016 mm/sec, two tensile cracks were initiated from the left and right of the hole and propagated perpendicular to the loading axis till coalescence to the model boundary. When the loading rate was 0.032 mm/sec, two tensile cracks were initiated from the left and right of the hole and propagated perpendicular to the loading axis. The branching occurs in these cracks. This shows that the crack propagation is under quasi-static conditions. When the loading rate was 0.064 mm/sec, mixed tensile and shear cracks were initiated below the loading walls and branching occurred in these cracks. This shows that the crack propagation is under dynamic conditions. The loading rate increases and the tensile strength increases. Because all defects mobilized under a low loading rate and this led to decreasing the tensile strength. The experimental results for the direct tensile strengths of asphalt specimens of different ingredients were in good accordance with their corresponding results approximated by DEM software.
The present study investigates the non-linear soil-pile interaction using three-dimensional (3D) non-linear finite element models. The numerical models were validated by using the results of extensive pile load and shaking table tests. The pile performance in liquefiable and non-liquefiable soil has been studied by analyzing the liquefaction ratio, pile lateral displacement (LD), pile bending moment (BM), and frictional resistance (FR) results. The pile models have been developed for the different ground conditions. The study reveals that the results obtained during the pile load test and shaking cycles have good agreement with the predicted pile and soil response. The soil density, peak ground acceleration (PGA), slenderness ratio (L/D), and soil condition (i.e., dry and saturated) are considered during modeling. Four ground motions are used for the non-linear time history analyses. Consequently, design charts are proposed depended on the analysis results to be used for design practice. Eleven models have been used to validate the capability of these charts to capture the soil-pile response under different seismic intensities. The results of the present study demonstrate that L/D ratio slightly affects the lateral displacement when compared with other parameters. Also, it has been observed that the increasing in PGA and decreasing L/D decreases the excess pore water pressure ratio; i.e., increasing PGA from 0.1 g to 0.82 g of loose sand model, decrease the liquefaction ratio by about 50%, and increasing L/D from 15 to 75 of the similar models (under Kobe earthquake), increase this ratio by about 30%. This study reveals that the lateral displacement increases nonlinearly under both dry and saturated conditions as the PGA increases. Similarly, it is observed that the BM increases under both dry and saturated states as the L/D ratio increases. Regarding the acceleration histories, the pile BM was reduced by reducing the acceleration intensity. Hence, the pile BM decreased to about 31% when the applied ground motion switched from Kobe (PGA=0.82 g) to Ali Algharbi (PGA=0.10 g). This study reveals that the soil conditions affect the relationship pattern between the FR and the PGA. Also, this research could be helpful in understanding the threat of earthquakes in different ground characteristics.

Man-made structure materials like concrete usually contain inclusions. These inclusions affect the mechanical properties of concrete. In this investigation, the influence of inclusion length and inclination angle on three-dimensional failure mechanism of concrete under uniaxial compression were performed using experimental test and numerical simulation. Approach of acoustic emission were jointly used to analyze the damage and fracture process. Besides, by combining the stress-strain behavior, quantitative determination of the thresholds of crack stress were done. concrete specimens with dimensions of 120 mm × 150 mm × 100 mm were provided. One and two holes filled by gypsum are incorporated in concrete samples. To build the inclusion, firstly cylinder steel tube was pre-inserting into the concrete and removing them after the initial hardening of the specimen. Secondly, the gypsum was poured into the holes. Tensile strengths of concrete and gypsum were 2.45 MPa and 1.5 MPa, respectively. The angle bertween inclusions and axial loadind ary from 0 to 90 with increases of 30. The length of inclusion vary from 25 mm to 100 mm with increases of 25 mm. Diameter of the hole was 20 mm. Entirely 20 various models were examined under uniaxial test. Simultaneous with experimental tests, numerical simulation (Particle flow code in two dimension) were carried out on the numerical models containing the inclusions. The numerical model were calibrated firstly by experimental outputs and then failure behavior of models containing inclusions have been investigated. The angle bertween inclusions and axial loadind vary from 0 to 90 with increases of 15. The length of inclusion vary from 25 mm to 100 mm with increases of 25 mm. Entirely 32 various models were examined under uniaxial test. Loading rate was 0.05 mm/sec. The results indicated that when inclusion has occupied 100% of sample thickness, two tensile cracks originated from boundaries of sample and spread parallel to the loading direction until being integrated together. When inclusion has occupied 75% of sample thickness, four tensile cracks originated from boundaries of sample and spread parallel to the loading direction until being integrated together. When inclusions have occupied 50% and 25% of sample thickness, four tensile cracks originated from boundaries of sample and spread parallel to the loading direction until being integrated together. Also the inclusion was failed by one tensile crack. The compressive strength of samples decease with the decreases of the inclusions length, and inclusion angle had some effects on that. Failure of concrete is mostly due to the tensile crack. The behavior of crack, was affected by the inclusion length and inclusion number.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of school library reading classes on the convergence literacy of adolescents based on the convergence reading education model. To achieve this, elements of convergence education for future-oriented competence were derived from the level of reading education based on previous studies and literature, and the effectiveness of education was measured by conducting a convergence literacy test targeting 50 general high school students. In this study, reading classes and tests were conducted over 12 sessions from April 2022 to November 2022, and the study participants were divided into two groups, and convergence reading education and self-reading education were applied respectively. The analysis results of this study are as follows. First, It was verified that there was a significant difference in the promotion of convergent literacy of adolescents according to the method of reading education. Second, it was verified that convergence reading education had a significant effect on convergence literacy of adolescents such as convergence, creativity, self-direction and communication ability. Third, as a result of verifying whether learning motivation plays a mediating role in convergence reading education influencing convergent literacy, learning motivation played a partial mediating role and had an indirect effect on creativity, self-direction, and communication ability between convergence reading education and convergence literacy, but showed no significant mediating effect on convergence ability.

This study presents a viscoelastic characterization of flexible pavement subjected to moving loads. A series of field tests have been conducted on three pavement sections (A2, A5, and A8) at the Korea Expressway Corporation (KEC) test road. The effect of vehicle speed on the responses of each test section was investigated at three speeds: 25 km/hr, 50 km/hr, and 80 km/hr. During the test, both longitudinal and lateral strains were measured at the bottom of asphalt layers and in-situ measurements were compared with the results of finite element (FE) analyses. A commercial FE package, ABAQUS was used to model each test section and a step loading approximation has been adopted to simulate the effect a moving vehicle. For viscoelastic analysis, relaxation moduli of asphalt mixtures were obtained from laboratory test. Field responses reveals the strain anisotropy (i.e., discrepancy between longitudinal and lateral strains) and the amplitude of strain normally decreases as the vehicle speed increases. In most cases, lateral strain was smaller than longitudinal strain, and strain reduction was more significant in lateral direction.

Experimental and analytical studies are performed on the mechanical behavior of concrete-filled tubular(CFT) truss girders for different f/L ratios. Bending tests are conducted on two CFT truss girder specimens to determine fundamental structural characteristics such as the strength and deformation properties. Nonlinear material models for CFT members subjected to an axial compressive force are compared in this paper by using the nonlinear finite element program, ABAQUS. Previous researchers have proposed several nonlinear stress-strain models of confined concrete. In this study, the nonlinear analyses are performed applying several stress-strain models for confined concrete proposed by Mander, Sakino, Han, Susantha and Ellobody, and the results are compared with the experimental results in terms of load-deflection and load-strain relationships. Based on the comparisons of the load-deflection relationships, the models proposed by Mander and Susantha provide a maximum load about 12.0~13.8% higher and that by Sakino gives a maximum load about 7.6% higher than the experimental results. The models proposed by Han and Ellobody give a maximum load only about 0.2~1.2% higher than the test results, showing the best agreement among the proposed stress-strain models. However, the load-strain relations predicted by the existing models generally provide conservative results exhibiting larger strains than the experimental data.

This study estimates the metacentric height (GM) of a model ship by varying the transverse weight distribution, considering the effects of the roll period and moment of inertia, and compares it with the GM values measured by the inclining test. In the process, the relationship between the values is analyzed. Three types of ships-a 7-ton fishing vessel, 20-ton fishing vessel, and KRISO Very Large Crude-oil Carrier (KVLCC)-were used for the experiment and comparison. The roll period and moment of inertia were measured using the free roll decay and swing frame tests, and the GM was measured using inclining test. The estimated GM from the roll period and moment of inertia showed the same trend as the GM measured using the inclining test in the change of the weight distribution. However, the GM values measured using the inclining test were lower. Therefore, additional correction factors or parameters other than the roll period and moment of inertia are necessary for estimating GM. In the future, the relationship between the weight center and the estimated GM will be analyzed to derive the correction factors.
Social commerce is a more recent phenomenon and growing in number and size with the diffusion of social networking services. But it has not been studied as extensively. The purpose of this study is to investigate consumers' social commerce usage intention empirically. Using the theory of reasoned action suggested by Fishbein and Ajzen(1975), this study tests that perceived value created by social commerce affects social commerce usage intention. In this study, authors e identify to the conception of perceived value as a multidimensional construct, economic, psychology, and time value. This study is to analyze the effects of the value perceived by the consumer on attitude toward social commerce and the effects of the attitude and subjective norm on social commerce usage intention. Additionally, we examine the moderating role of coupon redemption effort in the relationship between attitude toward social commerce and usage intention. In order to evaluative the validity of the model, 258 questionnaires were collected from college students who frequently use SNS and accept new trend and technology using internet survey. All the instrument items used in this study were adapted from previous research and the data were analyzed using SPSS 18 and AMOS 7. This study proposed several hypotheses and conducted an experiment to test these hypotheses. Based on the data analysis results, it was found that economic and psychology value has significant effects on attitude toward the social commerce but time value had not the effect on attitude toward the social commerce. And the present study has also shown that both attitude toward the social commerce and subjective norm significantly influenced usage intention. This finding suggests that the theory of reasoned action effectively explains the social commerce usage intention. The result regarding the moderating effect of the coupon redemption effort has shown that the attitude toward social commerce and usage intention is moderated by consumer perception about coupon redemption.
Many studies have been conducted to find the causal factors that influence salesforce performance and turnover behavior. This study focuses on the turnover intention of salesperson. Specifically this study argues that the causal relationship among job performance, job stress and turnover intention will be mediated by job conflict of salesperson. We develop the hypotheses from the conceptual framework and empirically test them for the salespersons of lifetime insurance companies. Based on the previous studies and conceptual framework developed in this study, we derive 8 hypotheses. <Figure 1> shows the conceptual framework from which hypotheses are derived. Hypotheses for the empirical test are as follows: H1: Job performance will have negative impact on the turnover intention. H2: Job performance will have negative impact on the job conflict. H3: Job stress will have the positive relationship with the turnover intention. H4: Job stress will have the positive relationship with the job conflict. H5: Job conflict will have the positive relationship with the turnover intention. H6: The negative impact of job performance on the job conflict will be moderated by job education/training. H7: The positive impact of job stress on the job conflict will be moderated by job training. H8: The positive impact of job conflict on the turnover intention will be moderated by the switching costs. To test the 8 hypotheses, we estimate the level of fitness and parameters of structure equation model by using AMOS 5.0. <Table 1> shows the results of empirical tests for hypotheses. <Table 2> shows the moderating effect of job training. <Table 3> shows the moderating effect of switching costs. This empirical study finds interesting results. The job training has the moderating effect on the causal relationship between job performance and job conflict. But it is found that the job training has not the moderating effect on the causal relationship between job performance and job conflict. These results may be due to the fact that Korean insurance company mainly focuses on training of the job skill and knowledge, not motivational elation of salesforce.

This study analyzed the impact of the real estate changes on the unemployment rate in Korea. Using monthly data from January 2013 to February 2023, the study employed a multiple regression analysis model. The key findings are as follows: First, there was a significant causal relationship between the real estate changes and the unemployment rate. Specifically, an increase in the real estate market led to a significant decrease in the unemployment rate, while a decrease in the real estate market resulted in a significant increase in the unemployment rate. Second, an increase in the loan interest rate was found to significantly reduce the unemployment rate, while a rise in interest rates had positive effects on the employment. Furthermore, an increase in inflation was associated with a significant rise in the unemployment rate. Moreover, an increase in the number of permits issued for housing construction significantly reduced the unemployment rate. Lastly, conducting robustness tests by substituting variables did not significantly alter the analysis results, indicating the robustness of the impact of the real estate changes on the unemployment rate. Based on the above analysis, it can be inferred that the fluctuations in real estate prices in South Korea are linked to fluctuations in the unemployment rate, and stable management of the real estate market may contribute to the stability of the unemployment rate.
