  • The paper presents an electrical model of a grid-connected wind energy conversion system (WECS) with a variable speed drive, a fixed pitch angle, a synchronous generator as a wind generator and AC-DC-AC conversion scheme for simulating dynamic behaviors and performance responding to varying wind speed input. The electric output of the WECS is controlled by the AC-DC-AC conversion scheme, the objective of which is to capture the maximum active power under varying wind conditions and to keep the voltage of WECS terminal bus at a specific level. Aerodynamic models are used to incorporate the power characteristics to wind speed. The modeling and simulation of the WECS are realized on PSCAD/EMTDC environment.

  • The model gas reaction tests were carried out to investigate the purification characteristics of methane on the exclusive catalyst for NGV. The experiment was conducted with the factors which affect the conversion efficiency of methane, such as Redox ratio, coexistence components of CO, MO, $H_2$O, precious metals and additives. The catalyst loaded with larger amount of pd and with additive La showed lower light-off temperature. In the presence of CO and NO, the conversion efficiency of methane was varied according to the kind of additive loaded. The conversion efficiency of methane was dropped for the catalyst loaded with La under lean air-fuel ratio, while it increased for the one loaded with Ti+Zr for the same condition. It was shown that the water vapor inhibited methane from oxidation by its poisoning on the surface of catalyst.

  • An unexpected occlusion in a real life, not in a laboratory, can be more fatal to neural networks than expected. In addition, it is virtually impossible to create a network that learns all the environmental changes as well as occlusions. Therefore, we propose an alternative approach in which the architecture and number of parameters remain unchanged while adapting to occlusion circumstances. Learning method with the term Conversion Learning classifies them more robustly by converting the weights from various occlusion situations. The experiments on MNIST dataset showed a 3.07 [%p] performance improvement over the baseline CNN model in a situation where most objects are occluded and unknowing what occlusion will appear in advance. The experimental results suggest that Conversion Learning is an efficient method to respond to environmental changes such as occluded images.

  • Due to the increasing demand of high rank coal, the use of low rank coal, which has economically advantage, is rising in various industries using carbonaceous solid fuels. In addition, the severe disaster of global warming caused by greenhouse gas emissions is becoming more serious. The Republic of Korea set a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by supporting the use of biomass from the Paris International Climate Change Conference and the 8th Basic Plan for Electricity Supply and Demand. In line with these worldwide trends, this paper focuses on investigating the combustibility of high rank coal Carboone, low rank coal Adaro from Indonesia, Baganuur from Mongolia and, In biomass, wood pellet and herbaceous type Kenaf were simulated as kinetic reactivity model. The accuracy of the pore development model were compared with experimental result and analyzed using carbon conversion and tau with grain model, random pore model, and flexibility-enhanced random pore model. In row lank coal and biomass, FERPM is well-matched kinetic model than GM and RPM to using numerical simulations.

  • Around the world, there is an increasing interest in Digital Twin cities. Although geospatial data is critical for building a digital twin city, currently-established spatial data cannot be used directly for its implementation. Integration of geospatial data is vital in order to construct and simulate the virtual space. Existing studies for data integration have focused on data transformation. The conversion method is fundamental and convenient, but the information loss during this process remains a limitation. With this, standardization of the data model is an approach to solve the integration problem while hurdling conversion limitations. However, the standardization within indoor space data models is still insufficient compared to 3D building and city models. Therefore, in this study, we present a comparative analysis of data models commonly used in indoor space modeling as a basis for establishing a generic indoor space feature model. By comparing five models of IFC (Industry Foundation Classes), CityGML (City Geographic Markup Language), AIIM (ArcGIS Indoors Information Model), IMDF (Indoor Mapping Data Format), and OmniClass, we identify essential elements for modeling indoor space and the feature classes commonly included in the models. The proposed generic model can serve as a basis for developing further indoor feature models through specifying minimum required structure and feature classes.

  • Due to the growing interest in eco-friendly and sustainable design in the architectural and urban planning field, we are witnessing numerous projects in which old buildings are being reused. However, with the exception of domestic apartments, there hasn't been a systematic approach or policy regarding the reuse of specific building types. On the other hand, we were able to point out two public building types, dong-offices and primary schools, that are expected to be underused, with future needs for conversion. Because the two building types are public buildings, we believe that their conversion must address the needs of the society. In this study, we have chosen 'social integration' as the ultimate goal of reusing public buildings. Upon the conceptual model of 'Housing-Mixed Public Facility', which was produced in a previous study, we have added other core programs that could be adopted into the model. Then, we applied the improved model onto the two building types by producing conversion plans and introducing key planning techniques. During this process, we have found some regulations that would not allow the realization of some models. Therefore, we have suggested amendments to the related regulations.

  • In this study, numerical analysis of curved channel steam-methanol reformer was conducted using the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) commercial code STAR-CCM. A pre-numerical analysis of reference model with a cylindrical channel reactor was performed to validate the combustion model of the CFD commercial code. The result of advance validation was in agreement with reference model over 95%. After completing the validation, a curved channel reactor was designed to determine the effects of shape and length of flow path on methanol conversion efficiency and generation of hydrogen. Numerical analysis of the curved-channel reformer was conducted under various flow rate ($10/15/20{\mu}l/min$). As a result, the characteristics of flow and mass transfer were confirmed in the cylindrical channel and curved channel reactor, and useful information about methanol conversion efficiency and hydrogen generation was obtained for various flow rate.

  • This paper presents a neural network controller of a grid-connected wind energy conversion system for extracting maximum power from wind and a power controller to transfer the maximum power extracted into a utility grid. It discusses the modeling and simulation of the wind energy conversion system with the controllers, which consists of an induction generator, a transformer, a link of a rectifier, and an inverter. The paper describes tile drive train model, induction generator model and grid-interface model for dynamics analysis. Maximum power extraction is achieved by controlling the pitch angle of the rotor blades by a neural network controller. Pitch control method is mechanically complicated, but the control performance is better than that of the stall regulation. The simulation results performed on MATLAB show the variation of the generator torque, the generator rotor speed, the pitch angle, and real/reactive power injected into the grid, etc. Based on the simulation results, the effectiveness of the proposed controllers is verified.

  • This paper presents a lateral driver model with neuromuscular system to evaluate the performance of electric power steering (EPS). Output of most previously developed driver models is steering angle. However, in order to evaluate EPS system, driver model which results in steering torque output is needed. The proposed lateral driver model mainly consists of 2 parts: desired steering angle calculation and conversion of steering angle into steering torque. Desired steering angle calculation part results in steering angle to track desired yaw rate for path tracking. Conversion of steering angle into torque is consideration with neuromuscular system. The proposed driver model is investigated via actual driving data. Compared to other algorithms, the proposed algorithm shows similar pattern of steering angle with human driver. The proposed driver can be utilized to efficiently evaluate EPS system in simulation level.
